Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Something just odd in general before I do that whole sleep thing.  As I was checking over my char desc, I noticed something about the usualy accurate Last Logon/Last post listings...

For example,  Timothius.  Last Logon Yesterday, last post Tue, 23 Aug... Wait what?  They just posted on the PM thread.

Also, Angel. last Logon Tue, Aug 31... Huh?

The INTERNET:
In one of the Sonic 2 videos you asked why they thought Tails needed a real name...

Miles Prower.

Heh. I thought it clever when I first heard about that. But I've known about that for some time now.

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Joe Darkthorne:
Joe would have expected Shelly to have an easier time of it though, what with all the diving.

A good point that would apply to anyone who holds their breath... but seabears breath water just as readily as air, so they've never had to hold their breath. Not that this is exactly common knowledge and not like Joe ever specifically asked seabears how they stay in water for so long.

This part of the post made me smile because it's one of those things that I actually put thought into, to which is why one of the seabear weaknesses is lack of oxygen; they tend to glut on it with air and water and aren't used to having a lack of it. Admittedly, it should be on the seabear sheet, but when I realized it (around the time Shelly went unconscious from being surrounded by fire), I didn't think to write it down... *goes to finally take care of that*

*Pushes up glasses*

Actually, those creatures that have to hold their breath for long periods of time might not do too well with thin air because when sea mammals dive the air in their lungs is compressed, and the air pressure increases.  Low air pressure could be lethal to them.

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Just a thing that has plagued my mind for almost 20 years:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ5dXMLhQPc

Go to the 1:39 mark and you will hear a low-tone voice singing... something. And I always wanted to know what. I'm relatively sure the choir says "Rust!" since the name of the place is "Rusty Ruin", but without confirmation, I can never be 100% sure. However, the low-tone voice, I reeally dunno.

At the 2:03 mark, he sings it again and repeats himself about 4 times before another "Rust!" pipes in. Nobody on the internet knows (or cares). Those who ask always ask about the "Rust!" choir. I've even sent an email to Richard Jaques himself about it (but I don't expect to hear back from a famous composer).

Off hand, to me, it sounds like "The beauty of the sun" (which makes some sense because Rusty Ruin had a really cool thing where it rained on and off as you played the level).

I've played with it in Audacity. Toyed with pitch, speed, even tried erasing tracks (though that is tough to pull off) and now I'm thinking it MIGHT be "Knowing that you are my song" or something that sounds phonetically identical.

If you can pick out what in the world he's saying, please lemme know.

......meanwhile, Sonic 1 and 2 soundtracks got released in CD format with the original music (direct from the synthesizers), demo versions, and all that. Here's the youtube channel for it:

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Narrator:
(Curiosity, what was Joe doing and was he in Mobotropolis the whole time?)

Joke answer: The first sighting of Joe according to satellite surveillance is him already at the icecream stand with the other characters.

Real answer: He literally came into Mobotropolis because he felt like some icecream.  Like the Joke answer, but without "I was here the whole time, but you didn't notice me" taken to it's far end.

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Dialogue from the intro of Timothius' solo story. I'd like any and all feedback, but what I'm mostly looking for is if this makes sense or seems forced / over the top:

Council Guard: "Timothius, your turn has come up. You may step forward and make your request."

Timothius: "Honorable members of the Council, thank you for seeing me and hearing what I have to say. It has come to my attention that our city is doing better than it ever has; nobody is in want for anything, be it necessity or pleasure.  We have been blessed with an overflow of resources. I am here to petition for resources on behalf of people who cannot petition. People in need. Our neighbors down below on Mobius."

Council Member 1 (girl): "Timothius... your concern for the ones below is admirable and you have brought it to our attention a number of times, but the answer is still the same."

Timothius: "Please hear me out... The people below have rather large problems ranging
from starvation to forced roboticization. All I'm asking is access to the extra resources we have in order to at least help a town or two. The other day, I heard that some of our stored food was reaching its expiration. Can I please at least take that down to some starving people?"

Council Member 2 (Serious dude): "Timothius... Our rules may seem harsh in this situation, but they are there for good reasons. We must deny your request.

Council Member 3 (Evil dude): "Why not go down there yourself and offer your own two hands?"

Council Member 1 (girl): "Councilor Athanar, that isn't funny. Do not be cruel to Timothius."

Timothius: "....no, he's right. That is what I will do. I had hoped to offer them more than just me, but if my own two hands are all I am permitted to aid them with, that is what they will receive."

Council Member 2 (Serious dude): "He was KIDDING about you going down there! Timothius, don't you realize you are wasting your time? Your efforts will be met with ingratitude, jealousy and fear. At best, one or two might be thankful, but most of them will betray you. Learn from history. You're a good man, Timothius. I don't want to see you get hurt."

Timothius: "I don't really have any other options, Councilor. Thank you all for your concern and your time. If I may be dismissed...?"

Council Member 2 (Serious dude): "We do not dictate your fate, Timothius. Nevertheless,
please keep in mind what we have said. We are not simply spewing hot air. These are not just words of paranoia, but of actual recorded events."

Timothius: "I will take your words into consideration."

Council Member 2 (Serious dude): "....very well. You are dismissed."

Tim sick again.  Long story short, the hospital has ruled out anything life-threatening, but they're keeping him there for the duration.  So very likely now that Tim won't be online this week.

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

Had a zany Mittens dream.  She was a police officer who, along with 3 others, were tasked with monitoring a big gang's big social function: mafia boss of the city's birthday, taking up several block's worth.  They're given an unmarked car and plainclothes.  Mits drives toward the giant shindig, following all the other party goers who are clogging the streets.  One of the mafia enforcers begins to walk toward her vehicle and the cops start panicking.

"He's going to recognize us!"
"How did he know we don't belong?!  Do they have all these people memorized?!"
"He's got his gun out!"
"He wouldn't just shoot us in broad daylight, would he?"
"Sure he would!  They'd skate too since all the witnesses are friends of the mafia!"

Mits tries to hush them, "Stop talking or they'll know we're cops for sure."

But by then the mob Don himself had already made it to her blind side.  "Oh you are, are you?"

Mits slams on the gas, jumps the curb, and makes for a nearby alley.  The Don gets all Scarface and starts shooting at the car with his Uzi.  Mits barrels down the alley and rounds the opposite corner, mobsters in hot pursuit on foot.  There she and the other cops are forced to exit the vehicle due to running out of road in the back alley choked with garbage.  They all scatter and try to hide in the maze of windows, doors, and hallways.

Things turn into a game of cat and mouse, the Don and his goon trying to find and kill the cops, yelling threats.  Mits finds an opportunity to sneak up on them and holds her pistol on them from behind.  "Drop the weapons!  No sudden moves!"

The Don decides it too risky to spin around and shoot, so he drops his weapon.  His goon then follows suit.  The cops all come out of hiding and arrest the two, but the Don boasts that he won't be going to jail since there'll be dozens of witnesses who'll testify that he didn't do anything wrong.  The cops roll their eyes, haul the two off to booking, and I wake up from my dream.  :P

Re: RL imitates Fiction or is it the other way around?

n.n

last night's dream was, appropriately enough, war themed.

i was the lead guy on a squad of reinforcements headed toward a skirmish near some enemy artillery.  just before reaching the no-man's land between us and the skirmish, we took cover behind an abandoned train.  though it was an honor to be put at the head of this team, as the lead guy charging through open terrain, you're going to be the most exposed.  practically guaranteed to get shot.  so i hesitated.  using the excuse that i needed to assess the situation for a moment.

well the situation was bad for the allies we were supposed to be helping.  they had reached the artillery but were pinned down by enemy fire.  evenly matched, it was a 50/50 chance they'd be able to win.  but 100% chance they'd take serious casualties, win or lose.  my choice was clear.  risk my life and the lives of my teammates to turn the tide in order to prevent the artillery from being used to kill hundreds.

then, somehow, knowing that i was pretty much guaranteed to get wounded motivated me.  it was like, "yeah.  so i'll get shot.  probably die.  but that's one less bullet flying toward my brothers in arms."

just as i was about to charge, the intensity of the emotions woke me up.

have a blessed memorial day!  remember the brave souls for whom it wasn't just a dream.
