Re: OOC

Just teasing ya, dude. Though admittedly, the anti-grav boots got me curious. What are those needed for anyway? Places with high gravity would be mined by ships rather than people since it'd be likely a gas planet like Jupiter anyway.

Re: OOC

The anti-grav/magnetic boots have several uses. First is to slow falls in lower gravity environments. If the gravity is low enough they act as jet boots so a person could sort of FLY in zero gravity thus they help in maneuvering. Furthermore they are handly to enable some gravity control, yes HIGH gravity 3g+  would be handled by robots as humans can't handle more than 3g or so for long periods of time without special equipment. But on planets where the gravity just above average/earth norm (say 1.1-2.0) but not high enough to be 'high gravity' the boots come in handy so a person can move around without tiring out faster due to the higher gravity. Additionally they allow a person to carry more weight in normal gravity. After all there can be non-gas planets larger than earth with higher gravity but your right ones with dangerously high gravity would tend to be gas giants. Also the magnetic features are for stability in zero/low gravity and to help secure someone so they don't end up floating away which could be disasterous in outer space. Thus they serve a purpose in zero, low, normal, and high gravities, although their useage shifts depending on the gravity.

Edit: Overall it's a good question since not everyone would realize their purpose, and I didn't go into much detail on why they are standard gear since I didn't think someone would ask what they are used for OOCly before someone asked ICly. (in which case I'd explain what I have just said.

If Joe was part of the 'my life is lamer' competion over with the other group, he'd take a dive and congratulate them for winning such an amazing prize.

Re: OOC

In reference to the Emerald post:

I spent some time researching this and it seems foxes have better hearing range than possibley even your heat sensors, Samuel. I doubt you'd need a personell heat sensor that can detect heat from 160 feet away and most of the heat sensors I discovered on the net have 15 feet range. Given you have advanced equipment, I can understand the ability would be there, but the need, I highly doubt since your ship would have the higher-end heat sensors. So I'm guessing your range might be 30-40 feet at best. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: OOC

It depends on the type of heat/thermal sensor, but in most cases a line of sight is required and with heat disipation over distance. However sound does not have such a limit so it makes sense that an animal with sensitive hearing would have a greater range than heat sensors in a forest as the trees mess with the range of a heat sensor.

The temparature sensors that I beleive you found are of very limited range, but are omni directional, there are also FLIR sensors (Forward Looking InfraRed) which can detect human body heat from a few miles away.

Samuel's sensors are of somewhat limited range, for ease of approximation, I'd say they have the same range as the heat sensors used by SWATBots when they are told to use their heat sensors as the computational power it requires to interperate the data is more than a SWATBot can afford to expend on using those sensors all the time. (think of it as a distraction when most of the time they aren't needed. However SWATBots are stupid and have limited computational abilities compared to a person. Example It can take a supercomputer a minute to recognize a image which a person can recognize in the blink of an eye...)

I do agree that Emerald's hearing would probably detect the coversation before Samuel's sensors would detect the other group. Then again Samuel has his sensors calibrated to detect robots... not other mobians (or any other organic creature)... so that also significantly affects the range at which his sensors would warn him about a group of mobians.

Re: OOC

Thanks to recent events with Emerald using her fox senses, I was thinking of going down the list of races and giving a brief "natural abilities" list for each race to show what is allowed by default. You guys think I should go to the trouble?

If you got the time to spare... I don't see why not, although it shouldn't become an issue that detracts from the RP.

Re: OOC

Well, I went with Coyote for variety and deliberately going against standard racial bonus type stuff. Otherwise I'd have been forced to go with a random feline species to be allowed to so much as back flip, never mind main characters get to ignore that sort of thing and bust the sound barrier, etc.  Though if they did come up, at least I'd have a legitimate reason to survive falling off of cliffs and anvils falling on me.

Re: OOC

Um why was there no scuba gear for Mittens? Or was that a typo? Since Shelly is acting like mittens is there, but Mittens didn't get scuba gear or did she... I'm now confused.

Re: OOC

Looks like I got a bit too excited and rushed things. Mittens would definately would have gotten scuba gear. But I'll play along with it since I was the one who rushed things.

And Joe's point is my point also. I just wunna make sure people have some extra things to fall back on.

There. Edited the older Shelly post so that Shelly didn't see Mittens instead. Plus added a Crucible pose in that edited post. Then posted Crucible again after Joe. Hope that fixes things.

Re: OOC

ICly Samuel is going to be busy for a while, so no need to slow down the part of the RP with Emerald, Mittens, Michael, and Shelly by waiting for Samuel since he's off on his own. Samuel will rejoin the restt of the Rp at an appropriate time.

Re: OOC

some classic puns to kill time with:

   1.  Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married.  The
ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.

   2.  A jumper cable walks into a bar.  The bartender says, "I'll serve
you, but don't start anything."

   3.  Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.

   4.  A dyslexic man walks into a bra.

   5.  A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and
says, "A beer please, and one for the road."

   6.  Two cannibals are eating a clown.  One says to the other, "Does
this taste funny to you?"

   7.  "Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green, Green Grass of Home.'"
"That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome." "Is it common?" Well, "It's Not
Unusual."

   8.  Two cows are standing next to each other in a field.  Daisy says
to Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning." "I don't believe
you," says Dolly.  "It's true, no bull!" exclaims Daisy.

   9.  An invisible man marries an invisible woman.  The kids were
nothing to look at either.

   10.  Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.

   11.  I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I
couldn't find any.

   12.  A man woke up in a hospital after a serious accident.  He
shouted, "Doctor, doctor, I can't feel my legs!" The doctor replied, "I know
you can't - I've cut off your arms!"

   13.  I went to a seafood disco last week...  and pulled a mussel.

   14.  What do you call a fish with no eyes?  A fsh.

   15.  Two fish swim into a concrete wall.  The one turns to the other
and says "Dam!"

   16.  Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in
the craft.  Unsurprisingly, it sank, proving once again that you can't have
your kayak and heat it too.

   17.  A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were
standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories.  After
about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to
disperse.  "But why," they asked, as they moved off.  "Because", he said,
"I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

   18.  A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption.  One of them
goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family
in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself
to his birth mother.  Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that
she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal.  Her husband responds, "They're
twins!  If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

   19.  Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time,
which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet.  He also ate very
little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from
bad breath.  This made him ...(Oh, man, this is so bad, it's good)...  .  A
super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

   20.  And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns
to his friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them
laugh.  No pun in ten did.

Technical question RE: RP...  Would Mittens, Crucible, and Pierson hear what's being said over the intercom?  If so, she'd jump at the chance to join a raid.  If not she'll likely continue evangelizing the 2.

Re: OOC

Good question. And the answer is yes. You would have heard them. Shelly and Samuel were not being private, per say. And even if they were, Shelly would want all of Aquarius to know without a doubt that she's in control of the situation, as per her training in royal school when she was a child.
