Community Chat

I hope everyone had a good Christmas or other, and is having good holidays.

I should probably try to be more active here in the OOC and such, keeping you all informed and entertained. Let's call it a New Year's Resolution, and thus likely doomed to failure. ;)

And yes, PC Gypsylady is now DM Gypsy, who will be restarting the Dalelands. And we have DM NorthernOkie who will be restarting the exotic far-east of Kara-Tur. In other news, DM Kilric has adopted Sword Coast South (which I recently retired from).

Now, entertainment... Hmm.

Where do you consider your home in the Realms, or home away from home? Be it where you first began playing or DMing, or that place you like or love and keeping come back to?

For me, it's the city of Procampur in the Vast. This is where I first began DMing, adopting the Vast here on RoA coming up on 5 years now. I didn't pick the place, that honour goes to DM Fido who ran the Vast before me, but I read all I could about it. I love its ancient proud history, its shining knights and pompous nobility, its bustling marketplaces, its colour-coded roofs for every district. I've had two PCs from there, and I imagine my others have passed through at some point.

Re: Community Chat

Hmmm... Home in the Realms... Thats a tough one.  I'm torn between The Spine of the World and Waterdeep.

After all if I were to have been born into the Realms I certainly would be a Dwarf.  I have played many a Dwarf (only one here on RoA) and love backsmithing, so most of my Dwarven characters have some of that in their background.  So The Spine of the World being the home of many a Dwarf and smithy seems to be a favorite spot.

On the other hand, I have now been running the Waterdeep region for a little more than a year.  It has been good to me. Lots of good players and some good player interactions.  Some have gotten pretty intense.  So it's been a lot of fun.

Re: Community Chat

I'd say Baldur's Gate and the sword coast, due to the Bioware game of the same name.

Re: Community Chat

Hmm... the Bloodstone Lands. Though I started with Tethyr and migrated to the North and Sword Coast North I think my heart is still with the Cold Lands - even if both regions are in the frosty northern parts of Faerûn.

My favourite character of the Realms would probably be Aerin, a Rashemi half-dragon-warrior-witch, and her gang in the Vast :)

Re: Community Chat

My Home in the realms? Most definitely Waterdeep. I remember the firat campaign I played in was set around and in Waterdeep, played out of the boxed set that came out years and years ago. I eventually found Faerun through that boxed set, and have loved it ever since. I remember the map of waterdeep out of that boxed set was like 8 panels that could be set up to show you a map of the entire city.

Wow, does that age me.

Probably not any more than most of the rest of us DMs.  And I now have digital copies of the very maps of which you speak.

Really? Wow, I would much like to see them again. Where did you find them?

Re: Community Chat

I pulled them from a PDF version of the Waterdeep book, as well as one I found online that was already "put together."  That's a big file.

I had them hosted on a site I had built, and maintained, but the site basically died and I lost the host.  So I'm going to have to find somewhere else to host them for the Waterdeep Region.

Re: Community Chat

OK, dumb question time,  well my thinking cap is out of lemons, is the PC availability thread for characters that had a game and the game died, or can anybody post a PC there?

Re: Community Chat

PC Status & Availability is greatly in need of a clean up and update, but it's for existing RoA characters from games that lost their DMs and need another, and want to advertise that fact.

My home in the realms may not even be in the Realms.  It's a race, but I may have a birthplace in the Far East ;-)

In reply to DM BadCatMan (msg #53):

Honestly my home in the realms is wherever my first character rolled up here is. I've gotten the opportunity to play with some outstanding roleplayers while playing Orophear the Duskblade.

Re: It'd make a Dwarf Proud...

I've spoken to Windwalker, she's down with sickness and family issues again.

And we now have DM North who'll be taking over Thesk.

There's some pretty awesome caves around, and things that would be weird in the Underdark. Here's some gigantic crystals:

People who live underground:

We visited the Dan-yr-Ogof caves in Wales when I was a kid. Huge caves, dinosaurs, prehistoric reconstructions, all of it awesome!
