Can anyone recommend a good and ideally free image-hosting website? I was using Photobucket, but they've gone to an absurdly expensive plan. I only need to upload and show battle-maps for here at RoA.

Have you tried Deviantart.com? They are free and I haven't heard of any issues with browsers.

I am an old player back for some gaming.   I see we currently do not have any regions looking, but levels do the current groups happen to be playing at?

I'm DMing the Savage Frontier in RoA1, levels range from a beginner's 3 to 6.

Any slots open?

none of the regions are looking right now.  I was trying to figure out the levels to see which character to bring out of mothballs.  Just a waiting game at this point.

Hello All.  I was once a DM for ROA for a number of years back in the day up until 2012.  I have returned and will be taking over my old region the Silver Marches.  The Silver Marches is my favorite place to play in Forgotten Realms, and I know it rather well.  I am posting here as I am wanting to see how many people are interested in joining the region.  It will be starter characters of ECL 3 up to ECL 5.

Keep in mind, the Silver Marches worst enemy is the environment, mobs only make it that much harder.

My campaigns always are of a good aligned party.  I do not accept Chaotic Neutral or evil aligned characters.

If you have played with me before, you know that I run a bit unique when it comes to GM rules and will be keeping those perks intact.

I do not yet have an adventure planned as I first need to see what interest I have.

A reminder on priorities: players who don't yet have a character get preference, then those with only one active character, etc. But it's all still up to DM Puma as to who is selected. But if you don't have a character, then work on an application quickly, before you miss out!

If you do not have a character yet, please PM your idea to me on what you have in mind.  If you have a character and have not yet enterted a game yet send it to me so I can look it over to see if you will fit into the region.  If you are wanting to submit a second character to play, hold off on that for now as I want to give priorites to those who are not in game yet.

I have had one application submitted for the region at this point.  I know it is the holidays so I will give a bit more time before I reevaluate what to do with the region.

Okay two weeks later and I have two players interested.  As an option, I would like to see what other players are interested.  This would include second characters for players already in the game.  Since my two players are ECL 3 I don't want to push the envelope to far at this point and have them just drag alongs.  Though I may have to up the ECL level if there are players who are interested in that range.  So I will look at stuff up to ECL at this point.  No Guarantees if I will go forth with that but I would like to see what is out there in the community.

I have permission to make a 3rd character as I been on this site for long time.

I am looking at monk / cleric (to become a Sacred Fist).

As it stands right now, I have an:
Fire Genasi Expert with healing abilities
player building a wizard with healing abilities
monk class with no race chosen yet

You want to propose a monk/cleric build.  I am giving priority to the players who don't have characters as of yet.  A monk is already being filled currently, and cleric might just be a third wheel if he is also a healer.  Just because you are a cleric dosn't mean you are a healer automatically.

Expert is an NPC class, it's not really suitable for play. I would recommend a Rogue or a Factotum (Dungeonscape) as a base for a good skill-monkey character.

Every active PC receives one free 20 on any d20 roll, whether an attack, a save, a skill check, or an ability check (not a natural 20, so it can't be used to cause a critical hits, but it can be used to confirm one). 2 days ago, a few days after the anniversary of my little brither's suicide, my beautiful, smart, funny and full of life little sister was killed by a drunk driver. My heart is shattered, my faith in life itself is forever tainted. I no longer can bring myself to do anything, my sense of up and down are gone. I appologize to all of the DM's that let me back into their games but I just can't go on. Do with my characters as you will, I don't care. You have all been great people to know and I wish you all the best but I need to somehow find a way to pick the pieces up and move on without any distractions. Take care.

We've shrunk a lot, and we're two editions out of step, but we're still going with a core of good players and DMs. To celebrate the end of another year of the Realms of Adventure, every player may take maximum hitpoints at their next level-up for one character.

Seems to me, Wizards of the Coast are two editions out of step.

 Sounds good. I have the 5th phb but nothing else. Still i am familiar with 3.5 and earlier, though have not been able to get in a 5th edition game here online or in FTF that survived more then a few weeks before dying out.

 If you get one started in would enjoy giving it a shot.

OK, 2 players. If a third steps up I will put something together. Any thoughts from you and DM Shadow about what type of game you would want to play ?? I played in a 3.5 game a couple years ago and never really understood the finer points of that system.

5e games advertised there usually fill up fairly fast

I attempted to be a part of the first 5e campaign but it petered out.  I might be willing to give it a second go.

 I would vote the standard low class villagers who take on dangerous supernatural threats to the village.

 Other then that i am open to what ever scenario but evil, that last part is just me.

Evil players ... Hmmm ... I have the beginnings of an idea. My only caveats are: no backstabbing, last person alive wins type play. D&D is meant as team play. Deeds & actions do have consequences ...

Can we use one of the old previous 5th edition threads ??  The Playtest one seems to have the least prior use. I would need to be able to create new threads, topics, etc.

What are peoples experience with 5th ??  PHB available ?? Free rules from Wotc ?? I am OK with complete newbies to 5th.

I generally use a Mature rating, I am not a fan of XXX, sorry previous job duties took me down that road. I am a laid back DM, used to running a slower paced game - but it depends upon player updating. I have very limited ROA experience here. One game got started, only to end. Typical online play.

To start, we will need a city name, a fairly large city. I have a layman's knowledge of the realms, so it would be altered to this game.

FYI, sorry forgot to mention this. I play D&D with real people on Friday nites, so you will likely not see me on Fridays. This may change to Wednesdays, I will give notice if/when that happens. That DM has work commitments.

We're about to enter the tomb in Tomb of Annihilation. Yes, we just survived negotiating between us, the Red Wizards of Thay & Yuan Ti. I expected a bloodbath, was pleasantly surprised.

Possible starting background, you all come from the same area of town, perhaps your own street gang ??  I tend not to pay a lot of attention to alignments, save when you are beholden to a god, master, oath, artifacts, etc. Displeasing them will have consequences.

 Ye gods, that's old-school... Magic-using teacher working as the GM, right? Ended up bringing a semi-sort-of-almost-renaissance to a classic fantasy world?

I have quite a bit of 5e experience in the sense that I've been playing AL weekly IRL for over a year, however AL doesn't do much in terms of IC interactions, being more a series of one shots with different people. So I'm familiar with th rules but would like more RP heavy games so to speak under the 5e system.

HC wise I've done TOA and am DMing Storm Kings Thunder, if that is important.

To answer your questions, no I am not familiar with the cartoon series. I will have to look into the Guardians of the Flames series, another Amazon Quest to expand my Wishful List - when I win the lottery ...

ROA seems to take the D&D canon seriously, but I can side-slip this a bit with 5th edition. Thus I see it as a D&D setting somewhere in the realms.

I have never sat thru an AL game, I have done a Pathfinder League game, so that may be comparable for Taohuisella. This would more RP. I create the setting, hooks & some background for starters. You then start doing as you wish, your actions, results, thoughts, etc become the story.

My initial feeling is starting you as the local key gang members. If you want to take an evil path, do so. There are competing gangs & others out there to interact with. How do you control the neighborhood ??  Intimidation, protection rackets, booze & women ?? Are you looking for a patron to work for ?? Take jobs, no questions asked for cash & fame ?? Do you seek city level influence by any means possible ?? This can be as gritty as you want it.

This may require some discussion followed by people then deciding what character types they want to play. Not everyone needs to be a rogue/thief. But having a guild member opens up contacts & resources. How did the poor magic user gang member gain his/her training ?? That's a few lines of background for me to use. I don't need a 4 page essay here. Comments ??

I'm curious around an evil game though I'd probably have a character more chaos leaning than truly evil.  Thinking a rogue with some thievery skills.  Maybe some other work as well.

What level are you considering starting at?

I'm still interested, especially if its a bit more RP heavy. Bit of grit is fine, but I would like to avoid too much wanton murderhoboing and graphic descriptions. Selfish and amoral is fine though, so if that's the game we're going for (or around it) count me in.

Haven't -quite- thought of a concept yet, but I like playing spellcasters in general.

Taohuisella = OK on the concept, at the discussion stage right now. I am hoping for an RP / action / somewhat thinking game. I do not believe in balanced encounters, a few will be ominous, some iffy. You need to be smart out there in the streets.

Looking into an ROA site, possibly the 5th edition playtest. I'm not a regular ROA DM, so this place is quite complicated without stepping on toes. Also not a computer geek either. If you want pictures, maps, diagrams, I will need some help in getting them here / posted.

The "RoA: Resource Database" shows up on my RPOL menu as having been marked for deletion.  Is this intentional?

If the trigger for deletion is absence of posts, should someone make a post in that forum to keep it from being deleted?  It is a useful resource.

I was debating whether to let it fade away or not, as it might be past its usefulness now and wasn't a great idea in the first place. But I've resurrected it once again.

Is the available space updated?

I'm afraid it hasn't been updated in a while and most games have stopped. In fact, there's only one active game on RoA now, sadly.

Sorry, the campaign is nearly over and there's no way to introduce anyone new.

Unfortunately, I just couldn't attract and keep DMs, especially as the RPoL community moved from 3.5 to Pathfinder, to 4e, to 5e, so Realms of Adventure slowly shrunk and died off over recent years. It's sad, I don't want it to die on my watch, but it feels almost inevitable with the change of D&D editions. I do hope to reboot RoA in future, but now it's on hiatus.

It has been around as long as I have, and low key, I've been a regular on rpol close to 20 years. I started as PC Swamprose, and at one point was DM Hydroninja (I think that was my handle). I had the Moonsea bubble.

I remember DM Annihilator, his future Mrs, and Raven. DM Raven was dope. She had some really neat encounters I truly enjoyed. This one time she had a giant bear, and me being the newb in the game was like, "Don't kill it! It's a bear and its mad because the cubs." But I convinced the party to subdue it, and then we even healed it. I think the game ended because of health or something.

I've never been a great fit. I like playing the "Jayne Cobb" or "Frank Castle"  type of characters that are grey, or at least accidentally heroic. I always loved yhe end of Jaynestown, after he kills Stitch, and is like, "Whats wrong with you people? You think somebody is just going to dump a box of money on you? Money they can use? Well there ain't people like that. There's just people like me."

Captain: You see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I ain't sayin y'all weren't easy to find, but you were a bit out of the way and he didn't wanna come. He's feeling a might ornary right now, looking to hurt some folk. I'd say it's his will you ought to be worried about.

I also ran into other hiccups. The realms allowed a lot of things I either didn't like or have access too. I always ran into a party with Tieflings or some class I didn't know what it was, and didn't have the heart to say, "I know this site allows that, but I dislike and am a hard no." Finally, I will always prefer Darksun or Ravenloft to the Realms. :/

I digress. I feel left out that I've never been in one of your games CatMan. Every time I've applied you've rejected me. I still watch the Player's Wanted thread. I either see new DMs with no longevity, or Rez advertising the same games week after week. When I see the same game being bumped week after week, it tells me the DM has trouble with player retention. That in turn tells me said DM runs off their own players or otherwise has a negative reputation. I've kept an active crew for my own game 8 years now with an ad for something specific about every 6mo or so, and I get flooded with RTJs. So I dunno. Maybe I got lucky.

I digress. I don't really want to see this place go splat. It has been here forever. I still use the character sheet I stole decades ago. :P

I was always fond of here but with my schedule instability, RL trashed my ability to play.

This was an idea that I always thought was awesome but I never managed to get the steam up to join a game. Very briefly had a go at creating something similar for Star Wars Saga but it didn't last. It would be a shame to see this go.

And now retired makes me wonder.

 I've had a bit of fun here, over the years. BCM's a pretty good DM with patience for our shenanigans for days...

 ...but yeah, I definitely came to prefer Pathfinder over time.

Snicker I now own the legendary bundle on D&D^Beyond for 5E but still love the character making here.
