One in Star Trek DS 9 too. I wish that I could shape change.

Actually the wish to “shape change” gives you a solid surface and two copper coins

Star Frontiers, the Dralasite was an alien blob-like creature that could take on physical shapes.

I play a Dralasite in a SF game.  My favorite race.

Starting to think that was a character in star frontiers

We did play traveller and gamma world

To be fair we played almost everything
Teenagers from outer space?  Anyone?

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

My favorite Gamma World was the 2nd edition. Played it twice as Pure Strain Human that died (of course) gruesomely to a flock of Obbs and as a mutant humanoid plant that had the chameleon ability that was shot with a black ray pistol by an android. I ran it most of the time, but that was cooler to me.

I remember GW.  I played a bear that tried to hug a robot.  Bad ending. LOL

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

I have the 4th edition of Gamma World. Not the one WotC put out with 4th Edition D&D, but the 1992 edition of GW with character classes. I haven't run it that often, but it was always a blast to run.

A couple of years ago a buddy of mine ran a campaign of 4th ed GW. My PC was Linka, a mutant cougar Enforcer who could teleport. Somehow she survived the campaign. One of the highlights was another player's mutant bull ramming a security door over and over to bust it open, and it was (per the module) booby trapped on the other side. When he finally burst through, BOOOOM!

His metal reinforced skeleton became a decoration in the nearby village where it landed. :D

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

I liked the Gammaworld concept, but the most fun I had with it was shifting it so that the tech available was modern, and using the local area as the wreck and ruin. It added a nice touch, I felt, when everything became so personal.

I think some of the game concepts were half- baked

Playing a sentient plant in the days BG* and now would be very different

*BG is before Groot

I have a friend who is a Marvel Comics aficionado, he actually played a character based on Groot from the Guardians comics back in the day. His name was actually Ruut A Bagga. He was a mutant rutabaga, of course.

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

I've played GW, not sure which version, not sure what my character was. :/ It was a time where we were experimenting with a lot of RPGs, Boot Hill, Gang Busters, one of the super hero ones, Twilight 2000, the one based on James Bond. That last one I only remember that my character had a Chevy Blazer / submarine. My Boot Hill character used the unpredictable cap and ball revolver. And my Gang Busters character was a newspaper reporter named Johnny Penfold. I used "Johnny" because I didn't know at the time that Danger Mouse's sidekick's first name was Ernest.

That's funny, I played a wannabe gangster in Gang Busters by the name of Earnest Danger because of Danger Mouse. Small world, go figure.

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

Never played Gamma World. The only goofy character I played was in an old Toon game - I played a Giant Atomic Cat with so little Smarts that whatever he tried to do worked because he was too stupid to realize that it was impossible. Very Monty Pythonesque the way we played back then.

"Right, stop that! It's silly!"

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

Much like Errol's experience, we worked our way through the gamut.  GW for sure, Boot Hill (which I really liked but the rest of the gang not so much), Top Secret, Traveller when a friend returned from a year in England with all the materials.  We also tried Rolemaster and Harn at that time, but in the end we came back to D&D.

Then I moved away and haven't played a tabletop game since.  Twenty-plus years on-line though!

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

I enjoyed the first edition of middle earth roleplay back in the 80s. As a kid all those charts were just too cool. But they did get rather cumbersome quickly during play. And everything, absolutely everything, had a skill related to it.

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

I saw the ruleset a bit later, as Rolemaster, and sadly never found enough people to play it with. Great reading though, and I loved so much about the rules, from the magic to the combat.

Tried to play a game of it on here once though, and just making the character sheet was overwhelming.

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

That was what killed me on it, Silvermoon.  I hated that it took an entire session just to create a character.  When I was used to D&D which took half an hour?  Maybe?  I couldn't take it.  :)

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

To be honest, I have played DnD for decades off and on right up until 3.5. But it isn't my go to choice for gaming. Depending on the age of the group in question I will got to GURPS 3rd of any genre, Rifts, or maybe on of the Powered by the Apocalypse style games first.

Re: Group 0 2020 OOC thread Part II...

It was fine with me because by that point I had been playing AD&D for several years, and tended to do character generation in advance with the players, one at a time. I just loved the depth and detail. The modules I had purchased were quite interesting as well.

Wow, as a perennial Cleric player ,I am surprised they are in second, usually no one want to play the cleric. Glad to see the class getting some love.
