Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Digorye held his hand out towards the ergothian.

Gina tumbled towards the two helpers, and while her hands where on the ground, she kicked the first with her left foot and then the other with her right foot, knocking both of them to the ground.
[The second attack was a critical hit]

As Marcus attacked, the ergothian tried to take advantage of his movement, but it seemed like his weapon was stuck in mid air. And Marcus strike hit home and the thug hit the ground.

It had only taken seconds since the thugs had drawn their weapons, but the fight was already over.

[Any further declared actions don’t take place as combat is over.]

"That's the way to handle things," Gina said removing the dust from her hands, if there was any.

"Good job there Marcus."

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus bowed slightly to Gina in acknowledgement, impressed by the speed and skill of her attack. A lady not to be underestimated, he thought to himself. He cleaned his blade carefully on a rag that he had pulled from his pouch. He then knelt beside the man he had downed and wiped the blood from his wound with the rag. Judging it to be serious but not immediately fatal, he closed his eyes. He started to mutter a prayer to Paladine, calling on his power to save the man's life, so that he would have the opportunity to learn from his folly. A slight white glow grew momentarily from his hands as they rested on the wound. When the glow faded Marcus rechecked the wound and then stood. The man had started to regain some colour, but he was unconscious still. He grabbed the Ergothian by the shoulders and dragged him out of the way. He leaned him against the wall of a building and wordlessly started to move the two men that Lady Gina had felled.

[Private to GM: Marcus casts Cure Minor Wounds to cure one point of damage. That will be enough to stabilize him.]

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Digorye was somewhat startled by how quickly it was over, and disappointed that violence had erupted so quickly. But at least the three thugs were still alive and would hopefully wake up having learned a valuable lesson. Turning to the kender, he speaks softly "I suggest you get on home now, before these mean men wakeup again. You should be safe at home where they can't hurt you again, as long as you stay out of their way."

"That worked out nicely, didn't it?  Now, about that drink..."

Julian winked at the pair of kender and proceeded in a random direction which he had determined would be most suitable for finding a pub, inn, tavern, common house or brewery.

"Thank you," Kelwik, the kender father, said. "I am in your debt. You saved my daughter's life and likely my own too."

And having thanked the group for what they'd done, he told them where they could find his home and then he went on his way.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus bowed slightly in acceptance of the kender's thanks, then he leaned forward, speaking so that only the kender father could hear his whisper. Despite this, he was careful to keep enough distance that he could avoid having anything disappear at the well meani9ng kender's hands.

[Private to GM: Marcus whispers, "Go quickly, my little friend. But it may be advisable to check to see that that drunkards possessions haven't fallen from his pouches and been accidentally picked up by your son. If he happens to have them then it would be wise to drop them beside the man, so he will have no excuse to hunt for you later. We won't be around to help you next time. My parents had a friend who always had similar misunderstandings happen to him too."]

Gabriel stopped short the battle had been too quick, he didn't even have much of chance to draw his weapon. A slight spark dropped from his eyes and he moved to the back of the group once more keeping his eyes pointed towards the ground.

Marcus flushed slightly as he leaned down to examine the small child. "Forgive my mistake, my friend. I was too caught up in what I was doing to pay attention to details. Most of the kender I have seen have long hair, and I did not think that even an oaf such as that one would attack a female child. You should go now."

[Private to GM: Sorry about that. I wasn't concentrating.]

Soon enough you've found your way to a tavern.

[Private to Marcus Valarian: It happens. Don't worry about it.]

Grov seams to be happy at finally getting to their destination. He is in the place before anyone or anything can delay him again. Once inside he looks around to figure what kind of people are inside the tavern.

A few seconds latter he goes to the bar and orders a mug of Ale.

[Private to GM: I look around to see the kind of people around. I also try nd figure if there is an easy target for me to steal from.]

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus keeps a wary eye on the attention that is being paid to Lady Gina by the men in the establishment. Although he has seen how well she can defend herself, he decides that it would be best that she not have to do so at all. He glowers at any man who looks in their direction and makes his way to a table in a corner of the room. He selects a seat with his back to the wall, though he remains standing until Gina has taken her seat. He then sits down and keeps a close eye on anyone paying the group too much attention. He refrains from ordering a drink until everyone else has bought one and is seated.

Digorye orders a pint of ale from the bar, and then tries to find a comfy seat from which he can listen in on any nearby conversations, to see what's new in the area.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

As Gina entered the tavern, heads started to turn and concentration started to laps. More than one beer mug was emptied onto the drinker rather than into the drinker, but Gina pretended she didn't notice.

She also noted how protective Marcus was, but he was her grandfather's squire and she really couldn't expect anything else. All of her grandfather's knights and squires were the same.

She looked around and found a brute of a man arm wrestling anyone who dared to oppose him. And for a 10 steel bet, one could win 100 steel by beating him. And Gina smiled.

She stepped over to the arm wrestling match as another contender lost and left his seat. And before anyone else could sit down, Gina took the seat and got ready to arm wrestle. To the roaring laughter of the onlookers.

"I don't want to harm you girl," the brute said. "Go away."

"Are you afraid to arm wrestle a girl," Gina asked and the onlookers laughed again.

The brute put grabbed her hand and the match started. And though the brute got an early advantage, Gina beat him back inch by inch, until the back of his hand touched the table, to the roaring cheers of the crowd.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus watched as Gina started an arm wrestling match. He smiled slightly as he realised that she had found an ideal way of demonstrating that she was not to be trifled with. After her victory, he watched the reactions of the crowd and then relaxed, as they apparently accepted her as a hunter rather than as prey. He leaned back slightly and stretched, trying to relieve the knotted muscles beneath his armour. Although used to wearing armour for long periods of time, he had never worn it all of every day for the weeks that it had taken to get to Khur. Although he was never one to display his weariness, he felt his muscles ache and complain with every movement. He looked forward to being able to sleep comfortably in a real bed again, without having to wake to stand watch in the middle of the night. But as much as he wanted to sleep, he also wanted to explore this unusual town.

While you enjoy yourself in the tavern, you begin hearing rumors that the Herald, a famed bard and storyteller, has arrived in town.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

The Kender seams very happy. He loves it here. Taverns were one of his favourite places. There was alcohol and lots of pretty things. Taverns were cool And there was alcohol and lots of pretty things! Grov goes around acting half drunk which is amazing considering that he hasn't drunk anything yet.

After walking around for some time he tries to find out who this famed bard is. Maybe it was a really good bard like his grandfather. That would be nice, he liked bards. They maked everyone happy.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Digorye continues to enjoy the atmosphere and drinks in the tavern, sitting quietly amid the crowd, listening and taking in everything that goes on around him. He laughs at the appropriate times and seems to be enjoying himself, but at the same time simply appears to be going along with the crowd mentality, not doing anything to stand out, making himself instantly forgettable.

His ears perk up at the mention of the Herald, this is somebody that he has heard story of in the past, and would definitely be interested in meeting. He'll start to specifically listen for more information about where the Herald is staying, how long he'll be there, anything like that.

Marcus frowns slightly as word reaches him that the Herald is in town. He decides that he would much rather avoid hearing the man's words. The last thing he really felt like was hearing endless songs and stories about his parents and the other Godsbringers.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Another pub, another chance to have fun!

Julian always liked a fine bit of carousing and rarely missed a chance to knock back a few of the local brew and hit on the local women.  News that there was a famous bard around (they all styled themselves famous though, didn't they?) was a help - it meant that he was going to get entertained, and if he was lucky the gent would have a fine load of love stories to boot.

Julian loved a good love story.  He was a bit of a sap, one supposes.

To pass the time, he sat with his family and had a drink and a meal.  It passed the time well enough and let him relax his feet for a while.

"Seriously, Gabriel, you were going to gut that guy with your pike?  Isn't that a little much?"

Watching the crowd leave, Julian looked at his brother.  "Are we going?  I mean, this guy, the Herald, is he performing at an amphitheater or something?  Don't they usually entertain at the local pub?"

The crowd keeps moving, and he looked down at his lunch with a frown before starting to wolf it down.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Gabriel sat near Julian but had barely uttereda word since they had enetered the tavern. He had yet to order a drink and had picked a little at the meal that rest on the table nearby, he did not like to be sitting idly by when he could be protecting something, or otherwise occupied with something much less trivial. Talk of the Herald reached his ears and he scoffed at the idea, but figured that most of his companions would jump at the chance to applaud him. He looked over at Julian as he asked his question and he responded curtly "It is called a glavie, and yes I am prepared to do whatever necessary to keep our group safe." he said as his finger flicked a potato that sat on the edge of his plate it flopped onto the wooden surface with a slight squish.
