Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

"Glaive.  Got it... you've told me that before, haven't you?  Sorry.  Yeah, I understand the part about protecting us, but it wasn't like some street thugs needed to get all disemboweled on a corner of a town we don't know."

Based on his coherence, he was running out of eating momentum.

"I mean, it would have been just as easy to knock them out or something, right?  Use the blunt end or something?  Killing's a hell of a thing to do on a lazy afternoon because some joker likes to push around kender, you know?"

He looked at the door and back to his brother.

"You want to go check out this Herald guy?  There's probably going to be a lot of hot tail hanging around."

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Noticing that most of the crowd has moved on, Digorye is disappointed that there's a lot less conversation to listen in on now. Glancing over at his cousins he makes eye contact and gestures towards the door, silently questioning if they want to follow the rest of the crowd too as he stands to go.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Sitting quietly against the wall, Marcus appears almost to blend into the furniture. But he quietly speaks up in answer to Julian's comment, "Fortunately we had the option to subdue those fools so that they will live to learn. But sometimes lethal force is the only option. And when our lives are truly in danger, a weapon capable of causing such serious mayhem can be extremely useful."

Grov followed the patrons leaving the tavern and was soon out the door and out of sight.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

As another patron left the tavern, you can hear the word "thief" coming in from the outside.

"Grov," Gina said groaning. If she was correct, it wouldn't be the first time you had heard that word said about your kender friend. And it always put him in trouble.

Gina left the tavern, clearly in pursuit of Grov.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Already starting to move slowly in the direction of the door while waiting for some response from his cousins, Digorye's ears perked up at the cry of the word thief. Connecting eyes with Gina and seeing that she'd come to the same conclusion, he quickly followed her out of the tavern and towards the commotion, in hopes that they would get to Grov before somebody else did.

Gabriel pushed his plate away from him in disgust and stood up from the table. He checked his gear and then made for the door, giving one last look to Julian before he did so.

Julian knew what was coming.  He got up and followed.  Kender could be fun, but they could also be extremely tiresome.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus sighed and rose to his feet. He started to follow the others, more from a duty to protect the members of the mission than from a real desire to. He knew that the kender, like all of the race, would likely be able to talk his way out of trouble, but he decided that he should keep an eye on things, just in case.

The townspeople have surrounded Grov and are moving in on him, to relieve him of whatever it was that he had stolen. Only Digorye was moving among them.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

From the outskirts of the crowd, Julian leaned over to his brother.  "What are the odds of the kender being beaten?  Because that crowd looks like it could be a mob with the right prodding.  I sincerely hope that Grov got something suitably shining and distracting to merit this sort of concern."

A moved aside as another local shouldered past him to join the growing crowd.

"Tough break being a kender in civilized lands with well-established property laws.  It must be like being a starving man at a formal banquet... no way to even pretend to follow along with expectations.  They're cute and entertaining if you can keep track of your more important stuff, but it's no real wonder why the minotaurs see them as vermin."

"You know, that reminds me of the time that we stole that chicken..."

Julian continues blithering, straining to make sure that Grov is coming out of the mass of humanity with all his limbs without actually wading in to find out.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

[Dragondog moving this post to this thread to keep it in one place, as we all are in one place again.]

Grov smiles and htrows the stuff back to the man he took it from. He then starts shaking his hands while speaking as if to accentuate what he was saying. As he speaks he seams to become more friendly and familiar almost as if he were a young child.

"No, you misunderstand! I was just looking, I was going to put it back when you shooted. Are you never curious? Wonder what is around you? I like looking, then I like putting it back before anyone notices, it's fun! You do it sometimes don't you?"

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

The man who had gotten his purse stolen picked it up.

"Well then," said the man who had pointed at Grov and called him a thief. "Now we don't have to throw you in jail, but we're keeping an eye on you. So don't do anything stupid."

"Ok, I'll stop looking. Overwise people get angry. I don't like people getting angry."

After this if no one says anything, Grov will start walking towards the bard he had heard of earlier.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

Marcus growls in irritation at the attention that the group was drawing to itself. He stays out of the way in the hopes that the guards would not see the same warrior defending two kender in an hour. That was the sort of thing that coud be mentioned to the Knights of Takhisis. And the last thing the Knights' secret mission needed was to draw the attention of their ideological enemy. He is relieved when Grov manages to extricate himself from the mob without violence. He is tempted to chastise the diminutive kender, but sighs and decides that it would be as futile as asking the sun not to shine. He trails along behind the rest of the group, keeping an eye on them to ensure their safety.

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

"There we go!  Typical kender outcome: smooth talking and the appeal to their inherent nature.  I bet there's a kender out there that just uses that as an excuse and really is a sneaky git sneak-thief... if word got out, it would make life hard for the rest of them."

Still talking, he follows Grov to the bard, or at least to wherever Grov thinks theres a bard.

"Why, it would shake the foundations of what it means to be kender!"

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

You soon arrived at the Wounded Crow, clearly a much more upscale establishment than the tavern you visited previously in Pashin.

The Herald, a human male in his mid sixties with white hair and a trim beard, spoke with an Abanasinian accent, gesturing  delicately and hushing the gathered crowd.

"I am known as the Herald," he said. "The memories of Krynn are mine to know and share. In my dreams I have lived many other lives. I have led men into battle on the side of both good and evil. I have fought dragonback and wielded the mighty dragonlance. I have lived, loved, and died a thousand times. This eve I will share some of my tales with you.”

[Any suggestions?]

Re: Chapter 0: The Sylvan Key

The crowd began to shout. "Tell of Huma!" "Tell of Lord Ariakan!" and other such suggestions. And a steely gaze from the Herald silences the crowd once more.

"I have another story for you this evening," the Herald said. "A story of a band of friends who brought hope to the world when there was none. The story of the Godsbringers. And the War of the Lance."

He introduced the characters, told of their return to Solace after a five year quest. Of a Blue Crystal Staff that led them to the Old Gods and the Old Gods back to Krynn.

He spoke of draconians, Highlords, and other servants of Takhisis. And the longer the tale lasted, these servants of Takhisis became more bumbling and incompetent. As a band of disenfranchised individuals challenged the might of the mighty Dragon Army and the Dragon Army lost.

Ah geez, not this again.

He'd heard this story a lot, and the prospect of hearing it again was greeted with all the enthusiasm of the sudden appearance of a rabid dog.

He made his way to someone that would sell him alcohol and seriously regretted his not prompting the man for 'The Mermaid and the Minotaurs'.

Some of the crowd doesn't like the story. Jeers and catcalls begin and some even start throwing things at him. Though the Herald continues undistracted.
