Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

The two half elves left the others, neither of them needing any source of light to see well enough, though color eluded them in the darkness. As they already knew, the tunnel soon turned to the left.

And as Marcus and Dove continued onward, he noted that she was in a mood. The duo eventually noticed that the tunnel seemed to enter another of those larger chambers, and the stench from this one was even worse than the rest of the sewers.

At first it was difficult to distinguish, but all too quickly they realized that it was the stench of decaying, rotting flesh. As disgust and bile rose in their throats, they heard a whisper. As if someone talking to themselves.

"Yesssss. Sssssweet. Ssssssssucculent... musssst have more! MORE!" The last word echoed down the tunnel.

"Sssssslavesssssss! Bring ussss more! More sssssweetnessss!"

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

Marcusraises a hand in warning. He gestures for Dove to turn back the way they had come, and he follows behind, watching carefully to the rear. They move back for some distance, before he quietly explains, "That creature is probably a ghoul, if not something worse. We will find another path." He then marks the dangerous path on the wall in chalk, and makes his way to the next turn, where he heads along that path instead.

The duo retreated to the chamber in which the group had separated, and continued onward. Some distance later there was a new tunnel to the right. To reach it, they would have to jump the gully.

As Marcus and Dove had jumped the gully, they continued onward and soon came to another chamber of the same style, with another artesian well in the middle. Two other tunnels left  this chamber. One to the left and the other straight forward, though it quickly made a right turn.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

[OOC: So far the posts have mostly been choices of direction, would you like to give me instructions on how Marcus will make his choices to speed up the process until they actually get somewhere where things happen?]

Continuing onward, Marcus and Dove came to another chamber. Four tunnels left it, one in each direction. Going right was the only direction that wouldn't involve a jump over a gully.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

Starting to get frustrated, Marcus heads back to the beginning, following his chalk marks to find his way. Once there, he looks for any sign that the others may have been successful. If they are not, then he starts his search again, this time working more methodically. He turns left at every intersection they come to. This is a very slow way of doing things, but also a very thorough one.

EDIT: [OOC:  I just noticed theevents in the other thread. I have been pointedly avoiding seeing what was going on in that thread. I made the above post about returning to the start before I read that the door had been found and that tthey were returning to look for us. So I will leave the post as is. Just wanted to let you know that I didn't put up this post after seeing that they were looking for Marcus.]

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

Having returned to the chamber where they split up, Marcus and Dove found it empty. Not wanting to go back, nor wanting to meet whatever it was that to the right, Marucs led them out the tunnel through which they had first entered this chamber.

Turning the corner, they soon passed the tunnel through which they had entered this tunnel, but they continued forward until they came to the next chamber. Marucs turned to the left and Dove followed. And soon they were back to the intersection where Marcus had decided to return to the chamber where they split up and start over.

And having only one direction in which to go, the duo jumped the gully, turning right, and soon came to a new chamber. And where the walls and ceiling of the other tunnels and chambers were in good repair, due to the ancient dwarven craftsmanship, in this chamber they were not. There were cracks everywhere and there was rubble on the walkway. It seemed as if the complex network of thick spider webs that filled most of the chamber was the only thing that kept the ceiling from collapsing.

Passing though the webs would difficult and slow, though there were narrow crawlways one that could be used to do so without struggling with the webs.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus)

Marcus inspects the passageway carefully. It seems unlikely that the elves would be using such a decrepit and dangerous tunnel, though it would provide good cover. He searches for signs of footprints or disturbed dust. If he finds signs of people passing through, then he will continue onwards. If not, then he will turn back and continue his search with the next tunnel.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

Marcus didn't find any indication of passage in the decrepit chamber. Turning back to the last intersection to turn left, returning again to the last chamber. Marcus heard for the second time this day, “one two three four. One two three four” and as he and Dove looked to the tunnel to the right, they saw two glittering golden eyes followed, at a lower height, by two glittering wolf eyes.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

Macus brings his shield in front of him and raises his blade, ready to strike. He is rather startled, however, to find a wolf wandering around in the sewers. Thinking that it could be an elven guard with his pet, he calls out in elven, "Who are you, stranger?"

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

In the elven tongue, a whispered voice comes from the darkness, "It is I again Marcus, it's Peter." The The voice was coming from a good deal higher than the wolf's glowing eyes, soon, a face emerged from the darkness and into the light.

It was Peter Markenin, smiling as though they had just left one another, "Have you found more of whom you were looking for?"

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

Marcus looks startled. "Peter? What are you doing down here?" He finds it hard not to be suspicious, even of his old friend. He wonders if Pater may have turned to Takhisis, and is trying to get Marcus to lead him to the elves. Why else would he be down here in the sewers? Marcus focuses his penetrating gaze on the other Knight, searching his soul for signs of his intent.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

"I was on a mission for the High Warrior to buy horses when I came across this steaming hole in the middle of the street.  It had a ladder and I thought I'd investigate."  Peter seemed quite sincere in his description, "I had no idea I would run into anyone I know down here, hell, I thought just the opposite.  Crymson and I were on the prowl looking for whatever foul creatures we could find down here."

His eyebrow rises slightly in scrutiny, "What are you doing down here friend  Marcus?"

Peter's hand went instinctively to the hilt of his sword, it was something that Vinas had taught him, caution was often the better part of valor, "Do you know anyone down here with a whistle?"  Peter asks Marcus, turning his head slightly to and fro to determine what direction it had come from..

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

Marcus raises a calming hand. "One of my companions has a whistle. We came here looking around, while we hid from a group of Knights of Takhisis. Come along," he says. He leads the others back the way they came, heading for the point where they split up. The marks he carefully made on the walls make it easy for him to retrace his steps.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

"I'm Dove," Dove said to introduce herself to Peter before they left the intersection.

On their way back towards where they had split up, they heard a shout from behind.

"Wait for us!"

As they turned to look, Digorye and Gabriel were some distance behind them. And as the trio waited for the two newcomers, the two others soon caught up.

”Hello Peter,” Gabriel said. ”Fancy meeting you here.”

As the group returned to where they had left Julian and Gina, they discovered that no one was there. The signal must have come from somewhere else.

[OOC: Peter recognizes both of them as grandchildren of Raynald Uth Argus. You can follow up with the introductions as you post.]

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

Marcus flushes slightly at his poor manners. In the surprise of seeing Peter down here, he had forgotten that Dove wasn't with him when they met earlier at the temple. As they meet up with Gabriel and Digorye, he says, "I am sure you know these two reprobates, Peter. There are others around here somewhere. All of us descendents of the same group, except for young Dove here." He offers a slight warning glance to Peter, indicating that he shouldn't mention the Godsbringers in front of Dove. Marcus starts searching for an indication of which direction the others may have gone.

Trying to figure out where Julian had gone, became easier than Marcus had expected when he noted that Julian was dragging his feat and purposfully was making a track anyone could follow.

[Assuming that you follow.]

Going back, jumping gullies, and passing through two chambers, you were soon reunited with Julian and Gina.

Re: Chapter 1.1j In the Sewers (Marcus, Peter)

"Well hello then," Peter offered with a polite bow to Dove, "A pleasure to meet you."  His smile was genuine, he hadn't always like meeting new people, as they were usually unruly sorts that had one thing or another about them that nagged at him.  But as he'd grown older and met more and more people on his quests, the old discomfort was soon lost and he accepted people more.

As they neared the leg dragging Julian, he smiled in greeting,  "It's good to see you two again as well, Julian ... Gina..." he bowed his head slightly to each, acknowledging them each in turn.
