Request to Join (RTJ)

I want to see the following in your RTJ.

* Name, gender, race, appearance, age, starting class(es) , Alignment, and most importantly the character concept and background.
* A character sheet is not needed, expected, or wanted at this time.
* A writing sample would be nice, but is not mandatory.

* I will decide what players to accept, and it may or may not be in order of arrival. An interesting character concept/background weighs heavily in your favor.

You may note that the post count is pretty high for a game that's just starting and that some of these posts are pretty old. I'm reusing the bones that I have already lain here so I don't have to lay them again elsewhere. And I'm hiding the old posts. So don't worry about it.

The Heroes

I'm looking for a group of 4-6 8th level characters that as a group should be able to do the following: perform arcane and divine magic, live off the land, go where they're not supposed to go and get what they're not supposed to get, solve riddles, convince others to do what the heroes want them to do, and fight. This list is not in order of importance.

Each character should preferably be able to do at least one or two of these things.

These heroes will start in Flotsam with 27,000 stl (same value as gold) each. Characters need to be at least 10 years older than the Adulthood age listed in the SRD for their race, unless they are elves who need to be at least 20 years older. They will adventure in Flotsam and its surroundings for some time before the group is drawn into the Age of Mortals adventure campaign.

They have all used Flotsam as their base of operation for years and are well known in town. The campaign begins in media res as they are on their first job for Lord Toede. Most characters won't have worked with the others previously, but there may be exceptions.

As this game doesn't take place in the main timeline of Dragonlance, the most important threads to read are: Timeline and House Rules.

The following threads can be useful to those that need them: Information includes a list of DL gods, what they "control" and who worships them; the first post in Update/Announcement as DL doesn't use gold for money; Knights of Solamnia, for information about Solamnia and the knights in particular;

Character Creation

When you get to the character sheet portion, I want a character sheet that fits the character's background.

While creating characters, the Player's Handbook 3.5E et al, represented by the online System Reference Document at www.d20srd.org (the Core SRD and some of the variant classes) is all that's available. Almost any of the 3.5e Dragonlance sourcebooks suitable for the 4th age of Krynn can be used, including the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (DLCS), War of the Lance (WotL), Towers of High Sorcery (ToHS), Holy Orders of the Stars (HootS), Legends of the Twins (LotT), Knightly Orders of Ansalon (KOoA), and Races of Ansalon (RoA). As is Complete Arcane.

You have 26 points to buy Abilities at a 1 for 1 cost, including the 2 for being at level 8, with each Ability Score starting at 10. Age will not affect the character's Ability Scores . Alignment should be either Good or Neutral, but not Evil. They are the "good guys".

You can buy anything on the equipment list, as posted on the above website, that you can afford, unless it represents something that doesn't exist or otherwise isn't available in the setting.

If you want something that's not on the list, you can have it at no cost or weight if the following conditions are met:
* You have access to your pack
* You have everything on the list that is close enough to the thing you want
* It is not magical or special or masterwork
* It is not too big or too expensive

House Rules needed for Character Creation will be listed in the House Rules thread.

Background Story Aid

Here are a few things to consider when you write your character's backstory. It doesn't mean that you have to cover all of these things in the initial backstory. And in about one page you won't be able to.

Name: List full name and all aliases, as well as when, where, and why he uses them.

Appearance: List gender, height, weight, hair, eye, and skin coloration as well as any other coloration and distinguishing features, e.g. beard, scars, vertical instead of round pupils, hairstyle.

Personality: List the character’s personality, demeanor, idiosyncrasies, and quirks. List values, plans, and (long/short term) goals. Why does he have these values, plans, and goals? What motivates him to pursue them? What are his hopes, dreams, and fears? How does he spend his time? How would he really like to spend his time?

Attributes: List the character’s physical, social, mental, and spiritual attributes and abilities. What are his talents? What is he not so good at? Is he religious or does he believe in the supernatural? Which religion/philosophy/god does he follow and what tenets does he live by?

Limitations: List his physical, social, mental, and spiritual limitations. How far is he able to go? Is there something he is unable to do?

Training: List the character’s training and schooling. What kind of formal schooling has he gone through? How good was it? How far did he get? Does he have any degrees? What kind of jobs/professions has he had? When, where, and for who did he work? When, where, and by whom was he trained/taught?

Interests: What are his interests/hobbies? What is he known for?

Combat: What is his combat style like? What distinguishes it? Does it use certain stances, moves, attacks, and/or combinations? Is it more focused on attack or defense, or is there a balance? What weapons does he use (if any)? What is his favorite ranged and melee weapons? Does he prefer kicking, punching, grappling or some other type of unarmed combat?

Family: List family members. Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as spouse and children. Say something interesting/important about them. How close is the character to his family? Who raised him? If it wasn’t his parents, why was that individual/family/group chosen? How was he raised? What does his pedigree look like for the past four generations? What other relatives does he have?

Friends: Who are his friends? How close are they? What would he do for them? What does he believe they will do for him and why? List his current and former girlfriends, how/when/where they were together, how/where they got together, and how/when/where they broke up.

Acquaintances: Who are/were his teachers/instructors/coaches? Who are/were his coworkers? Who else does he know? Does he have any contacts? How did he get to know these people and why does he keep the relation alive? Did he know any PC/NPC from before? How? Why? Does he have any enemies/rivals? Who are they, what created this relation, and what are they willing to do to keep it that way? What would persuade them to end the relation? What is he willing to do to keep this relation alive and what is he doing? What would he give to end it?

Past: What interesting/important events have taken place in the character’s past? What consequences will his past have in the present? Where has he lived and when did he live there? What is his first memory? What is his most vivid memory?

Present: Where/how does he live? What does he do for a living?

Campaign: Why did he join the group? What are the group’s plans and goals?
