Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

The armed guards yell, "Get out of the vehicle! Now!"

Slamming the doors shut would only delay things anyway. Since the backside of the armored car is seperated from the driver side by a wall of metal. So it's not like the group could go anywhere.

Nivi says, "We don't have much choice, guys... let's comply."

Juros frowns and exits the vehicle.

"Wo-hoah, K, dudes," Kevin answers, lacing his fingers on top of his head in surrender as he exits the van, "Yeesh.  You'd think we'd like, insulted their families or something.  But like, at least they seem more sane than the last kidnapper.  So like, is it a bad sign when armed dudes yelling at us for no reason is like, more normal than what we're used to?"

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Hakkof was, admittedly, considering it more out of spite than any viable longterm tactics.

"That's because it is normal, Kevin." It's crazy out there where less people yell and wave guns around for the hell of it.

Hakkof leaves the vehicle so as to put off getting shot in the face for another few minutes.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

The group is given bracelets with blinking lights, then led to some kind of cell made only of stone (it has a dirt floor). They seal the group inside and close the 3-inch steel door. However.. soon, a different door opens, letting some light in.

Just beyond is a hall filled with different kinds of melee weapons. There is a barrakian there and he says, "Before you all go charging at me, I'm a prisoner here just like you, OK?" he points to the bracelet on his wrist. It matches the ones the group is wearing.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

When given them, Kevin checks out his bracelets.

"Like, thanks for the bling, dudes!"
he called out to the captors as they left.

Kevin smiles and waves at the other guy, points at his own bracelet, then gives an aloha sight.  "They're like, all the rage, hah.  So like, I'm Kevin.  This is like, Juros, Nivi, and Hakkof.  What's your name dude?  And like, what's goin on around here?  Hahahah."

He moves to get a closer look at one of the weapons, check for traps, poke at it, etc.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Hakkof looks for a serviceable blunt weapon, because sharp weapons never work in a childrens cartoon you usually don't have to spend time pulling them back out of your opponent...  Oh, and in case he is made to maim his co-workers for the entertainment of others, that too.

"The plot twist would be a bored coalwren set this up.  They are properly appreciative of blunt trauma." Even if he thought paddles was kind of silly, he can't think of much in the way of Coalwren rowboats in what he recalls offhand of their history.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Posting for Tim:

The barrakian says, "My name is Nehjo. You have been put into the Fighting Pit; a place where captives like us are forced to fight. They might set you against each other. They might set you against large beasts. They might set you against other slaves."

Juros is annoyed at the weapons selection. "Of course. Weapons I can't use. Annoying proprietary, most-of-the-races-can-use-these weapons...."

Nivi says, "And if we refuse to fight?"

Nehjo says, "Then your opponent will likely kill you."

"No way, like, the plot twist is that it was me who set it up!  Dun dun duuun!  Hahahah."

He shrugs at Juros.  "You and Nivi would prolly do better out running your opponents anyhow.  So like, anyone ever get outta this place and like, how'd they do it?"

He searches for a weapon that could be used to dig out.  Like a pick or something.

"At least until they order us to fight eachother like he said.  I like you three enough to suggest it might be more interesting if you teamed up against me instead."  And then he would feel less bad for giving them a concussion!  A little.

They are all so doomed if a blonde weapons loving weredrake is one of their opponents though.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Kevin finds a pick.

Some guards come. They look more like mech warriors. "Forward." is all one of them says, pointing in the direction of the arena.

Nivi and Juros go into the Arena. Nivi picked a polearm... the longest one.

Juros wound up picking nothing.

The opponent shows up in the arena. It is a barrakian in obvious gladiatorial gear.

"Like, woah!  Check out the mech dudes!  Like, radical!  Hahahah."

Kevin follows along.  In the arena, he looks around for places to escape through or hide.  He then smiles and waves at the opponent.

"Hey there, dude!  Hah.  Name's Kevin!  Hahah.  This is Hakkof, Juros, and Nivi.  Hahahah.  We're like, flower delivery dudes!  Hahahahah!  So like, nice to meetcha!  Hah.  What's your name?"

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Oh, only one of them?.. Granted, Hakkof is also supposed to ensure his co-workers at not flattened so this could be more difficult than otherwise.

"Remember to smile and wave to the crowd-" On that note, he checks for a visible audience, "After your opponent is on the ground bleeding."

OOC: I know you were thinking something more badass when you said 'look like mechwarriors'... But due to my own experiences in literal Mechwarrior/Battletech, this is what came to mind.

Neeeeeeerd facts:  The guy in the tube vest from before the Inner Sphere rediscovered cooling suits, so to not die of heatstroke when mechs heat up they gotta wear no pants and cooling stuff along with their dorky neurohelmets

Some Neurohelmets more dorky than others.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

The gladiator doesn't respond to Kevin.

Juros says, "Chances are, this guy is just skilled enough to 'wet our appetite' for fighting. Get us into the groove of things."

Nivi twirls her polearm and says, "Juros, have you seen anything to indicate the crowd can hear us talking?"

Juros glances around. "If they do, it's hidden."

Nivi says, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I suppose..."

Nivi looks at the gladiator. "None of us want to hurt you or get hurt. I know you just met me, but if you trust me, I can get us all out of this fight alive."

The gladiator still doesn't respond.

The announcer says, "Fresh meat from the market! A barrakian! Working alongside a goat, a grenu, aaaaand a blissian! This first fight, we will see what this group is made of!" Cheers ensue.

Kevin smiles and waves at the crowd, followed by a handstand and an aloha sign.  When gladiator face ignores him and Nivi, Kevin shrugs.

"That like, went about as expected.  Hah.  So like, we should totally nick name him for our own convenience.  Hah.  Like, 'Silent but Deadly' comes to mind.  Hahahah."

"Or was your plan something more optimistic like nobody hits eachother and we escspe by killing our captors with boredom?"

Juros says, "Whatever your plan involved, it will have to involve knocking him out... I just noticed the guy has one of those annoying slave-circlets."

He's talking about the kind that literally turned Victor into a crazy.

The barrakian begins walking towards Nivi.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Kevin notices Nivi didn't explain her plan and is thankful.  He returns to standing, secretly holding on to a handful of dirt assuming there's dirt to be had.

"Like, you dudes are too radical to be boring.  Hahah.

"Dude's like, walking, not running.  Hah.  That was like, unexpected.  Hahah.  So like, if you're reluctant to hurt my friends, I totally appreciate it!  Hahahah."

He tries to maneuver to a spot where he'll able to toss dirt in the guy's face should he charge Nivi.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Hakkof does the sensible thing (to him), and simply does that thing where you try to smash the other guy before they smash you.

At the very least, he expects to be able to evade a counterattack reasonably well from a fellow barrakian, thematic outfit or not.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

The gladiator evades the attack, having apparently seen it coming. He then swings back with his wooden club, now fully engaged in combat with Hakkof.

Nivi circles around, trying to get behind the gladiator.

Juros goes to the guy's left side, barking and being menacing to try and keep him from turning left.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Kevin tosses dirt at the opponents face the moment he starts to attack.  He then maneuvers opposite Juros to flank with him.  Kevin surreptitiously point-points at the spot behind the knees and winks at Juros.  He readies a called shot to the back of the right knee for when a good moment presents itself.

"Like, hang in there, Hakkof!"

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Hakkof keeps his mouth shut on the off chance he might end up with dirt in it (because why deal with that when you don't have to?).

The arguably less crazy Barakian dodges the return swing, and expects just half assing things on somebody probably wired to keep fighting unless physically incapable will not turn out well for the rest of them.  Hopefully the antics of the shorter people make that easier to accomplish.

In another setting, Matt hungers for smashing kneecaps for some reason.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

When the barrakian sees he is surrounded, he swings his club 360 degrees in an attempt to hit everyone! His attempt doesn't seem as dedicated as one might expect, his attack movements being a little slow.

But when Kevin blinds the barrakian with dirt, Hakkof has an opening to hit the guy anywhere he wants. Though with Nivi diving towards Hakkof from between the enemy's legs, probably best to hit the guy ABOVE the crotch. It becomes clear why Nivi is doing what she's doing, though, as she takes her polearm to the backs of the guy's knees while charging forward. She is clearly going for a knockdown.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Kevin kachings that his dirt-to-face attack worked.

"Woah!"

Kevin is forced to jump out of the way of the gladiator's 360 attack, making him abandon his own next attack.  He chalks up the half-heartedness as reluctance to hurt a cute Blissian lady but thinks better of drawing any attention to that.

"360!  Dude means business!"

He crouches down in a three point football linebacker stance, ready to tackle Nivi after her her attack...  Better that than her getting smushed under big, heavy Barakian after she topples him.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Hakkof is thankful for the easy to avoid swing.  So thankful he's going to try and give them a concussion as gently as possible (Hint, not very) with his own club if Nivi is successful in tripping them.

Re: Chapter 03: The Fighting Pit

Nivi's trip is successful and the guy lands on his back!

Kevin's readied leap winds up with a bunny in his arms.

Hakkof succeeds in hitting the downed barrakian. Who, of course, does not go unconscious and swings his axe at Hakkof a LOT faster than before.
