Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

Tension Level 5

Your team emerges from the escape shaft into an empty RED-Clearance plaza.  Thank Computer for small miracles!

Before you can catch your breath, however, a quick check of your PDC's shows more time has gone by than it seemed.  You only have about 20 minutes before your transbot is supposed to pick you up at platform B1:22:FF:C2, and it's clear across the sector!

You cast your eyes around, looking for an answer:  There must be a nearby tubeway...a sidewalk...something!  But no, the plaza is deserted except for...wait, is that...it is!  A set of public access Transitions, standing just a few meters away.  No problem!  The nimble little discs will get you to your rendezvous in plenty of time.

Ginger says, "At last, we get a break.  Well, we can go debrief and tell how great we were at taking care of the scrubots and the writer of the virus!  Although I hope it's not held against us that we didn't catch that AllyG8R guy."  She nods down to Marco.  "So what do we do with this guy?  I could have used the credits myself, but..." ...and she give a stern look to Gunther... "...unauthorized summary execution is treasonous, last I checked."

Vicsis blinks against the sudden light, panning the camera slowly around the empty plaza. She checks her PDA, noting the time, and begins to narrate in her special Narrator Voice(tm). It's more tense and exciting, compared to her normal voice. "Our heroes find themselves running short on time, and all the way across the sector from their Transbot platform. Will they make it on time? Will any troubleshooters be revealed as dirty Commie traitors? Will Marco ever awake from his coma, the coma he got from protecting us all from a dangerous ceiling tile with his head? The exciting conclusion to our story begins.. NOW!"

She then turns to Ginger. "I think we should take him with us."

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

Before anyone can respond, Gunther's geiger counter starts to go off, first slowly and then more quickly.  Then you hear a noise from behind you, a noise like a runaway freightbot...or, more accurately, like an army of murderous scrubots shouting your names and erupting around the corner of a nearby building.  They're rushing right at you.

If you start running now, you might just make it to the Transitions before they're on top of you.

Apparently, not all of them were destroyed in the explosions.  Some are worn and scorched by flames.  Others are new and shiny, having just joined the fray.  A new hoard of scrubots is after you!

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

SCENE RULES/DESCRIPTION

First, I will give you your total perversity points earned to date:

This scene lasts for a total of 10 "Rounds" (assuming you survive that long).

For each round, you will need to roll a 1d20 and publicly post what you rolled.

Example:  "ROUND 2: I rolled a 13"

There are 9 total Transition discs.  They fly in a sort of flock formation, forming about 3/4 of a circle.  They are numbered 1 through 9. Your roll will determine where you fall in the order of these discs as you escape.  Those in the rear part of the semicircle are in danger of being caught by the horde of scrubots.
</blue>

EACH ROUND GOES AS FOLLOWS:

1- The GM posts the new scene
2- Each of you rolls a 1d20
3- During the Round, you may take ONLY ONE ACTION!
4- The scrubots will attack any who have fallen behind.
5- Whoever succeeds by the highest margin becomes the "guide" transition disc out in front of the circle.  The rest will determine position based on how well they made their rolls.

Whoever is the Guide for the round determines where the group of transition discs will go after I give you each scenario.

Clear enough???

Okay, roll and post for your positions...Remember, the key indicator is not how high you roll necessarily, but by how much you beat your skill level by.  (I will check those out from there.)

As you jump on the transitions, you see that the horde of scrubots has increased to a number that can only be described as...HUNDREDS!

ROUND 1

The Transitions shoot across the plaza, down a shallow flight of stairs...and immediately run into a crowd of citizens on a walkway.

Whoever becomes the Guide will choose to assess which way the crowd will scatter (a Management/Moxie roll) or muscle the citizens aside (Violence/Unarmed Combat).

I'll follow up on Tuesday.  Please have your basic rolls done by then.  You can talk as much as you want, but you only get one ACTION (shooting, something requiring perversity points, etc.)

Remember, you can use perversity points for any of your rolls or use them to help or hurt the rolls of other specific individuals.

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

OOC:  Sorry for the delays.  Life's been hectic, and posting these rounds is a little more time consuming than the typical ones.

Here is your setup as you go into the rounds being chased by the Scrubots:

               (SB)
         (6) (SB)
      (4) (SB)
   (2) (SB)
(1) (SB)
   (3) (SB)
      (5) (SB)
         (7) (SB)
               (SB)

As you can see, you are being chased by a horde of scrubots.  You are only using 7 of the 9 discs.  This includes the 6 characters plus Marco the NPC spam ID thief.  The discs fly in a flock pattern as shown above.  The numbers show the priority numbers based on your rolls.

The person in first position ("GUIDE") will get to control how the "flock" of discs responds to the given scenario.  The people in position 6 and 7 are subject to the most danger of having something happen from the scrubots.

ROUND 1

The Transitions shoot across the plaza, down a shallow flight of stairs...and immediately run into a crowd of citizens on a walkway.

Here are the results of the rolls:
               (SB)
         (Gi) (SB)
      (R) (SB)
   (D) (SB)
(CL) (SB)
   (M) (SB)
      (Gu) (SB)
         (V) (SB)
               (SB)
Your initial name letter represents who you are.  M=Marco.

Now make your moves for Round 1 and roll for Round 2.

ROUND 1

The Transitions shoot across the plaza, down a shallow flight of stairs...and immediately run into a crowd of citizens on a walkway.

Guide chooses:  (1) assess which way the crowd will scatter (dodge through them)(Management/Moxie) or (2) muscle aside the crowd (go through them)  (Violence/Unarmed Combat).

To Guide: What you choose decides what skills everyone rolls against next.

NOW MAKE YOUR MOVES FOR ROUND 2 AND I WILL POST THE SCENARIO.
REMINDER:
EACH ROUND GOES AS FOLLOWS:

1- The GM posts the new scene

2- Each of you rolls a 1d20

3- During the Round, you may take ONLY ONE ACTION!  (this may include trying to destroy pursuing scrubots with weapons or mutant powers, attacking other characters to make them fall behind, or trying to get ahead of the others)
(For each robot Busted by you, and for each NPC wounded enough to be DOWN or worse, the length of the pursuit shortens by one round.)
(Focusing on getting ahead means you can choose to roll against the skill the guide did not choose, or against a narrow specialty if you show it applies.  If you succeed, you add your success margin to your maneuver roll.  If you fail, you don't add anything.)

4- The scrubots will attack any who have fallen behind.
(If your maneuver value altogether is 0 or less, you become vulnerable to a scrubot attack.  A miss of -10 or worse allows 2 scrubots to attack you.  A miss of 20 or worse is 3 scrubots, etc.)

5- Whoever succeeds by the highest margin becomes the "guide" transition disc out in front of the circle.  The rest will determine position based on how well they made their rolls.

Whoever is the Guide for the round determines where the group of transition discs will go after I give you each scenario.

Remember:  Your roll is not compared directly against the others' rolls.  The key is by what margin you beat your maneuver score (or missed it).  Also, your roll may be affected by others applying perversity points against you (or for their rolls).

WHOEVER IS THE GUIDE GETS TO CHOOSE THE SKILL YOU ALL ROLL AGAINST DEPENDING ON WHAT ACTION THE GUIDE CHOOSES!  IT IS NOT A PREDETERMINED SKILL.

NOTE: If you do not roll and make a post by the time I post, I will have to make the roll for you, from which I will subtract 2!

OOC:  Hmmm...I noticed a potential problem here.  You need to spend PP before a roll.  Therefore, if you want to spend PP on a roll for yourself, make sure you have a separate message with how much and why in a PM.  You should also put your main roll in a PM so that others will not know whether to apply Perversity Points against you.  (If you make it public, they know they can easily fry you with the other robots or knock your score down if it was a good roll.)

Vicsis attempts to shoot the pursuing scrubbots with her multicorder. While she does indeed get in some great shots of the harrowing chase, it takes her a moment to realize that this isn't, in fact, her gun and it won't shoot anything at all, much less laser blasts.

It doesn't even come with some sort of flame thrower. Obviously R&D has been a bit lazy lately.

Now that she's gotten that straightened out, she whips out her gun and starts firing behind her at the insane robots, while trying to dodge the crowd.

OOC:  Please make sure:

(1) to post any rolls you make in a Private Line so that others can use perversity points for or against you without seeing your roll first.  Otherwise, I will have to reroll for you.

(2) If you want to use perversity points on your own roll, please make two posts: the first will be a PL regarding your use of perversity points.  The second one, which should have a time stamp after your first post, will have your actual roll in it.  Otherwise, I will have to reroll for you.

(As another option, you can use your special thread or a PM instead of posting it in the public forum as two posts, but the timing sequence should be the same.  This only counts for those using PP for their own rolls...since PP must be given up before the rolls.)

OOC: I've had a bad cold this week.  Slow on posting.  Sorry.

Rob takes the lead!  CL falls back to second.  Vicsis moves up to third just behind.  She fires at the scrubots...but misses.  Gunther moves into fourth place, and Ginger into fifth.  Ginger fires...and hits Gunther accidentally when her auto-aiming slugthrower moves in that direction.  (Gunther is snafued and cannot use PP the next round.) Dexter falls way back to second to last.  Only Marco falls back further (with a roll of 1).

The scrubots attack!  Dexter is snafued and cannot use PP next round.  Marco...is maimed.  He falls off his disc and soon is overcome by angry scrubots.  Marco is no more, and you wonder if he has a clone out there somewhere.  No matter.  The chase is on!

ROUND 3

The group jumps over the divider and begins moving in the correct lane with traffic.

But after only moments, a gang of Death Leopards, also on Transition Discs, slide up to engage your group.  They apparently want to mix it up with you road-warrior style

Guide (Rob) chooses (1) engage in Transition vs. Transition slamming (Violence/Vehicular) or (2) scare them into backing off (management/ intimidation).

OOC: Remember the sequence.  If you want to use PP, post twice.  First post will include what you want to use PP on, if anything, and must PRECEDE your dice roll.

Second post is your action, result of dice roller, and please list your skill level in violence/vehicular and management/intimidation.  (If posted after Rob chooses, just the applicable skill level is fine.).  Also, pick what you want to do for your "Action" this round (should have previously posted if any PP's go to boost this).

Gunther throws a grenade, but the slamming causes it to "accidentally" fly toward Ginger!  It explodes...and Ginger is MAIMED.  Ginger falls off the transition and is soon devoured by crazed scrubots.  Ginger is out of the game for the rest of the scene.
(My count is 2 scrubots down and 2 players down, including Marco.  That reduces the total rounds here to 8.)

Rob stays in the lead, with Dexter just behind him.  Gunther moves to third, followed by CL and then Vicsis in last.

The robots attack CL and Vicsis...and...[dang they got lucky rolls]...both are missed by the scrubots miraculously!

ROUND 4

Rob's tactics scare off the road warriors and you press forward, reduced to only 5 in your party now.  The scrubots are getting closer, it seems, catching up, and you go faster and faster and...

...uh oh, you hear a siren from somewhere behind you.  It's an Internal Security hover patroller, on its way, no doubt, to catch evildoers!  Traffic begins to make way for it.

Guide (Rob) chooses (1) brazenly pretend to be escorting it (Management/Chutzpah) or (2) slip in right behind to follow in its wake (Stealth/Shadowing).

You can also use PP to reduce the chance of robots hitting you in case you fall behind in the group (these PP will not be subtracted unless you actually fall to the last two in the group).

Rob looks confident as he knocks the sleazy gang away, leading the pack with pride. Then the sound of the security squad hits his ears. He thinks fast, he waves his group to either side of the security brigade speaking to the leader as he passes by. "Sir, it would be my squad's honor to provide you an excellent escort to your pressing need. The Security Force is so important, this escort would provide the type of treatment you deserve.  Anyone seeing you with an escort will be instilled with a great sense of awe in seeing how important you all are!"

The scrubots attack!  And Vicsis is WOUNDED and overtaken by the scrubots.  Your group is now down to four!

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

I just wanted to revisit your FREE ACTION:

REPEAT OF RULE:
During the Round, you may take ONLY ONE ACTION!

Some of you are not telling me your free action because you're not shooting anyone, using a power, or "getting ahead."  Remember that getting ahead means you roll against the opposite skill the guide chose or a narrow specialty if you can make a good argument that it applies.  (It essentially gives you an extra roll, with your success margin added to your original roll to get ahead.)

It wouldn't be Paranoia if you understood the rules!  :)

It took me awhile too.  Basically, you get to roll twice and use PP points.  The last two people in line get attacked by bots, and the leader gets to choose the path.

We only have two rounds left anyway.  I'll post tomorrow regardless (time permitting--these posts take more time than the typical post for me).

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

HERE'S A BREAKDOWN TO EXPLAIN:

Here's the scenario:
Guide must decide whether everyone has to cope with (1) the hazards of the Tech Services explosives manufacturing center (Violence/Demolitions) or (2) the threat of the Power Services reactor core (Hardware/Nuclear Engineering)

INITIAL ROLL

Dexter (leader) chose the reactor option, meaning everyone rolls against their hardware/nuclear engineering skill.

CL rolled 17 (and used no Perversity Points).
CL's Hardware score is 6, and he has no Nuclear Engineering specialty/weakness.

So CL's margin is 6 (skill level) minus 17 (roll).  His margin is -11, which is pretty bad.  Now, if he can "get ahead" with a good roll, he can reduce that margin or even turn it into a success roll.  (Again, he used no Perversity Points for the "get ahead" roll but probably shouldn't have used "get ahead" anyway...see below.)

GET AHEAD

To "get ahead" in this case, you roll against your violence/ demolitions instead of hardware/nuclear engineering (i.e., the opposite one chosen by the leader).

VIOLENCE is the SKILL.  DEMOLITIONS is the SPECIALTY/WEAKNESS.  So if your character sheet has a "demolitions" specialty under the Violence heading, you have to use the "demolitions" specialty/weakness instead of the violence skill.  If you do not have demolitions, then you use violence as the default.  (The same is true of HARDWARE (generic skill) and NUCLEAR ENGINEERING (specialty/weakness) for the first roll above.)

Here's what it looks like on the character sheet:

CL Character Sheet:
VIOLENCE 06
Energy Weapons 10
Thrown Weapons 10
Demolition 01
Poke 'Em in the Eye with a finger! 12

HARDWARE 06
Electronic Engineering 10
Habitat Engineering 01

So, for example:

CL chose "get ahead" and rolled 17.

CL has a demolitions "weakness."  On your character sheet, anything with a skill level of 1 is a "weakness."  Therefore, choosing to get ahead for CL is a bad idea because he's rolling against his worst score!

So CL's roll is his specialty/weakness skill (01) minus his roll (17)= His margin of success if -16, which is almost as horrible as you can get (-19 being the worst).

(The rules probably want you to subtract the 16 from your normal roll, but I've ruled to disregard it for getting ahead purposes.  So CL's "get ahead" has no effect.)

So CL's final score for where he is in the setup is:  missed his roll by 11, and adds no bonus points from "get ahead" and adds no bonus points from perversity points.  His final position will be wherever -11 puts him compared with everyone else.

I hope that helps...

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

Here are your roll margins based on rolls, as explained above:
CL=     -11
DEX=      0
ROB=    -10
GUNTHER=  1
And Dexter had a good idea:  He put the PP points as a + to the roll (ex. 1d20 + 5).  Then you don't have to worry about putting PP in a separate roll, but please note in the roll "reason for roll" how many PP are added.

Gunther pulls into the lead, followed by Dexter, then by Rob and CL pulling up the rear.

Rob and Dexter fire their weapons.  Dexter misses...and Rob's gun blows up in his face!  Rob's weapon is useless now, and he is SNAFUED (no PP next round).

Gunther throws another grenade...and it hits a scrubot in the face, blowing it to pieces!

The scrubots attack Rob and CL.  They miss CL but Rob is SNAFUED (no PP next round).

(My count is 4 scrubots down and 3 players down, including Marco.  That reduces the total rounds here to 7.)

ROUND 6

You enter a nearby spiral ram going around and around and around until you all start to get dizzy.

Guide decides to either (1) focus on how much he'll be fined if he gets sick on his uniform (Management/Hygiene), or (2) just goes ahead and tries to throw up so he'll feel better (Wetware/Medical).

Re: Scene 7 - Every Scrubot My Enemy

Everyone begins puking except CL.

CL pulls into the lead, and Dexter takes out another scrubot!  Unfortunately, one of the scrubots attacks Rob and takes him down (MAIMED).  Rob is overcome by the scrubots as you continue up the winding ramp.

(Since you have another robot down and another player down, that was the last round.)

You find yourself skidding to a stop at a transbot platform.  It is the platform listed in your original Mission Alert!  How lucky for you.

The transbot is pulling into the station just as you arrive!  You quickly maneuver the transition disks into the transbot...but Gunther slides into the transbot just as the doors begin to slide shut!  Luckily, Gunther is good at maneuvering.  He jumps from his transition disk and into the transbot before being shut outside with the scrubots.

The scrubots arrive just as the doors close and begin to beat on its hull.  Looks like you barely escaped them!

As you pull away, out of the back window you see a second, beat-up looking transbot slam into the platform, scattering scrubots like bowling tenpins.
