Re: Observation Roll

William reined in his horse and dismounted, lead the animal to an old and dilapidated fence that had seen better times and tyed off the reins. Quickly taking stock of his weapons he moved off in the distance to where the sound of the engine was coming from. He realised that while four legs was better than two, nothing was better than seeing your enemies choking in your dust while you left the hotzone with your balls intact, and your teammates watching your back.

Whilst taking full advantage of cover in this field of green wheat, he moved forward doggedly up the rise, he had to see what was coming and get ready for it. Another month or so and we could get tonnes of grain from here, he muttered to Andy.

He didn't exactly look forward to the pain from breaking in his rear again from God knows how many days ahead of riding his horse, so grabbing this vehicle was critical.

William took stock of his teammates positions as he closed in. He became more cautious, utilising his training and experience to try and remain undetected and see what was going on.

Don also realizes that his horse probably will not stand waiting when the shooting begins. He dismounts and ties the horse to a fence post.

Don ties the next horse at a different fencepost while keeping clear from the monsters' teeth and hoofs. When he is done, he realizes that the posts might not stand panicing horses.

He turns to Tanya, and asks in a tone as low as he can.

" 'ey lassie. Don't you think it would be better if you could tie the horsies onto you your saddle?"

Re: Observation Roll

Andy gratefully dismounts from his horse. Even just the last couple of hours in the saddle have made him stiffen. After tying the reins to a convienent fence post, he tries to sneak up to the top of the low rise with Dave and William.

Hearing Mal's comments, Andy realises that food will very quickly become a problem and as soon as possible the group should try and forage or hunt or both.

Just before reaching the top of the rise, Andy crouches down in the tall wheat, his head just above the green ears of grain. Slowly he moves forward, craddling the RPK in his arms like a lover.

Encounter

The three soldiers who sneak up through the tall whaet to the top of the rise see a UAZ-469 (soviet jeep) and approximately a dozen troops wearing Polish uniforms walking nearby. They are heading in a westerly direction and have seen you but do not appear alarmed.

Also with them in the back of the UAZ are 4 other people who you identify as wearing NATO uniforms - 1 is German, 2 American, and one Norwegian. It is not clear at this range if they are prisoners or not but they are definately not carrying weapons.

The UAZ comes to a stop as the accompanying infantry change direction towards you.

The range is presently 600m.

Re: Encounter

Do we talk, Pole or 5.45mm?
If we stay on the crest of the hill we can hold the ground better than on the face?
Do you wish to summon the others Lt Colonel?
There is a good chance if we start fighting the UAZ-469 may flee, making this pointless and blowing our cover.

Im just an NCO, strongly resisting the urge to salute, drawing any fire to the officer ;)

Guido starts looking for ground cover before anything begins to happen.

[Private to GM: Were there no modifiers for the terrain as we only failed by 1 on both accounts]

Re: Encounter

" 'ey Mr Nelson?"

Not seeing what is happening behind the curve, Don is looking worried, standing between the two big animals. He is looking to get an answer for what to do, now that the car's motor has come to a stop. And he of course want to have an answer from Tanya, wether she wants to take care of the horses. Not given an answer, he looks to that they are securely tied to the poles. (not the soldiers though ;)

"I really hope they aren't going to shoot our lads!"

"Obviously they have been spotted, but shouldn't some of our other laddies move further down the road and secure that the others aren't getting shot at? The poles won't shoot their own people..."

Re: Encounter

Leaving my horse in the cappable hands of others I move ahead a short distance along the field side of the fence and crouch behind a sturdy seeming post to await events. Perhaps I can stop the vehicle if it attempts to race past the advance team.

Note to self: we really need to sort out some way of communicating among ourselves without the need to shout.

Guido using the standard hand signals I indicate to the others seen enemy then 12 ensuring that the enemy cannot see my hands.
OCC all soldiers are trained in hand signals, they are small and simple as you do not wish to be waving your arms about when the enemy are looking for targets
I will not post the hand signals as that is restricted

I hate to rain on your party but we are in a wheat field noting height and visibiliy The best we could do is go low move and kneel and make it difficult to spot us and return fire. Being careful not to draw attention I will signal the rest to come up, The person in command should be preparing an attack formation or ambush. But what would I know, I'm just an NCO

Once he answers, Do you think we could negotiate with them? Perhaps pass ourselves off as another patrol from the 11th BGB?

If we are quick enough one of us could switch with Don, if he is up to it, this will make it look like there is only 3 of us and if talks go badly you can spring an ambush Prepare for the worst and you will be prepared Sir, indicating to WO Brown go Ask Don is he up to it then prepare the ambush quickly This is going to be tight if (when) the sh.t hits the fan.

Re: Encounter

William turned and headed off to the Lt. Muttering and shaking his head,  William could see this was going to turn into a clusterfuck. Moving quickly he made his way back through the field down the rise, all pretence of stealth gone. "Too bloody late for that" he thought.

As soon as he spotted the Lt, William ran over and explained the situation. "Sir, we have 12 contacts, armed and moving on foot, originally about 600mt away heading towards us and a jeep with unknowns in it stopped at that point. They look to be in Polish uniform. Maybe we need a new plan, they know Andy & Dave are up their and I walked down here. Sir"

Re: Encounter

When William comes down to the other group, Don decides to tie the horses to the pole in any case. Noone else seem to care about them anyway.

"Well, I could follow you up there, but I guess that wouldnt be the brightest idea after all, since I dont have an officers uniform, they probably couldnt care less. The 12 men are already moving toward our scouts, and I guess thats not very good. I'd say we should pull back. It's no idea getting shot.

OOC: I don¨t really know whether I should make a comment at all about this, since this is I and not Don that is speaking. Suggestion from me is: We have a lot of firepower, and being Polish soldiers they probably will not attack us in the first place. I could get up there and say a couple of words in Polish so that they get within throwing range. I'd suggest that half of us gets up there, taking care of the troops with autmatic fire and synchronized throwing of grenades. That should bring the 12 soldiers down, in no time. Probably they have an officer in the car, and he might try to escape. Our 2nd group, should advance directly, and even faster if fire is opened on the hill. their job is to firstly take out the driver of the car, and secondly trap the 12 troopers into crossfire. But I'm just a politician, so you don't need to listen to me at all, considering this being a military action.

Re: Encounter

Alfred dismounts from his horse before handing the reins to the non-combatant. "Donnachaidh if you wouldn't mind, it would be appreciated" before turning to the other present "We need to close the distance to that vehicle, so we need to advance on their position. We all move out in a line heading towards them. when we get close enough I will initiative combat so listen for the cue. I will tell the two warrant officer that the vehicle is their priority. Ok lets move out." After finishing his little spiel Alfred begin walking up the low rise towards his intended target.

As he walked Alfred wished that all those under his command would be safe, & come out of this combat with their life & uninjured. It was asking alot but with a couple of SAS soldier in the cobbled together force the outcome swung into towards them in the upcoming firefight. If they could catch the enemy unaware half the battle would already be won.
