Marcus nods to the Major before keying the mic and transmitting evenly btu quickly, #"Be advised Romeo Papa there are no known friendlies outside the 'wire' at this time. Weapons are free if you are in contact. Break. Do you have any casualties and do you need assistance? Over."# Looking up from the mic he looks to the Major, "Sir, Do we have a Q-R-F of any sort?"

Jared had dozed off and only opened his eyes on acocunt of the staticy activity on the radio.

Looking lazily over at the Major as he voiced his question.  Jared merely shakes his head indicating that he didn't have one.  He then looks around with a somewhat curious expression, half wondering if anyone else did.

Re: Incident

Michelles head pops back out from under a nearby vehicle listening with interest to the radio transmissions. Sighing, she gets up and heads over to the radio. Hoping that none of her comrades have been fired upon. Med supplies were getting low. She was wanting to go over to the old school house to the science lab to see what could be scrounged for making antibiotics, but with two teams out, it seemed like such a low priority. the last thing she wanted was to spread them out and scatter them. Biting her lower lip, she listens for the response of wounded on the radio.

Frowning to himself Brown's tight lipped expression and almost imperceptible shake of his head show that he did not have anny emergency plans and was silently berating himself for not thinking about it in advance.

Snatching up his rifle, Brown checks the ammo and then looks back towards the radio.

"Should we send a team to support their withdrawal?"

Re: Incident

The smoke columns rising into the air through the trees to your north confirm the intial direction assessment as well as identifying the range as approximately five kilometres. From the amount of smoke, it seems that at least half a dozen vehicles had been hit. Any unit with that many must have some survivors you'd think, even after the apparent hammering that had occured.

Any reasonable sort of armoured vehicle should have survived the mortar onslaught unless they'd suffered a direct hit with one of the exceptionally rare hi-tech anti-armour rounds that none of you had seen in the past year or two.

Yes, ambushes could be described as legalised murder but with a well drilled team, they were not always totally one-sided. Survivors could exist...

At the very least, if a force of sufficient size was able to move quickly enough, they might be able to drive off the attackers and either rescue the remaining defenders or take the spoils for themselves. If the attackers were presently involved in gathering captured equipment and supplies, they would be in no position to defend.

With that many vehicles, the defenders must have substantial fuel production capability and possibly even some sort of reserves.

Re: Incident

Marcus listens to SFC Redgrave's reply. As if releasing a moments tension he exhales audibly. He mutters more to himself than anyone else, "Well, at least they're alright." He turns his attentions to the rising tendrils of smoke with a furrowed expression of curiousity. He thinks aloud, "I wonder if there are any friendlies that way?"

OCC: Michelle, just FYI, everyone is assumed to be in except for the recon group.

"I think we should send a team to sweep the area that was just hit. Try to find prisoners or survivors of whatever attack just happened, and scrounge any remaining equipment." Bernhard looks over those left here at the warehouse,"I think the BTR should be taken for heavy firepower, with Don, Smythe, and Sgt. Gallin in the vehicle, and Brown, Corrigan, Kett, and Dettinger along as shooters. Pick up the recon team on your way, and bring back any vehicles and equipment you can scrounge at the site of the fighting." He looks at the soldiers he didn't mention by name, "The rest of us will stay and look after the wounded and civilians that we have here, along with the BRDM and the still."

Re: Incident

Kett refers to his scribbled notes before responding to the Majors words. The various scraps are shuffled about till he seems happy.
"Sir, if I may make a suggestion or two? We probably want the best people we have available to head over there as there is a high likelyhood of trouble."
"I suggest that Samuels drives with Zhukov as gunner and Brown vehicle commander."

He shuffled through the papers quickly as he spoke, "Don to go as translator, Smythe and Gallin as medical team and yourself, Miricada and Matterson as infantry support."
"We need Andy and Smith here to care for the wounded and prepare for any extra casualties. Dettinger and myself should be able to provide adequate security if we arm a few of the civies. It's not like you'll be gone long."

OOC: Involves most of the PC's too. Most of the rest are NPC's.
If I may also point out for future reference, the best mix for vehicle crews (skill wise) is Don and Samuels as drivers, Zhukov and Winters as Gunners and Brown and Dave as Commanders.

Re: Incident

The RPK-74 slung across his back and well worn Polish issue uniform and webbing show a picture of a seasoned soldier well used to dealing out death and destruction to those in the unfortunate position to be between him and his objective. The care he is taking as he tends the wounded and changes dressings doesn't fit that picture though.
Concentrating on the task at hand, he almost misses what is being said until Major Finnegan mentions his name. He looks up and tunes his ears in.
"Sir, I don't think it's a good idea if I leave right now. Some of these people are still touch and go. Best to take my weapon though, a rifle will do me for round here."

OK, that works better, we head out in two mikes. Everyone grab your gear and move like you got a purpose. Bernhard drops everything he doesn't need, carrying only his web gear, ammo, weapon and frags. He stops just long enough to grab a couple extra frags before mounting up in the vehicle, taking a seat near a door for easy evac under fire.

Dettinger was in his usual position up on the roof. He'd made himself quite comfortable up there by spreading out a few flattened cardboard boxes hauled up from inside and covering them with a sleeping bag for extra padding.
A few extra cartons stuffed full of old magazines provides some small amount of cover from shell fragments.
His PSG1 sniper rifle lays ready to hand with the HK-69 grenade launcher attached to the forestock. The radio is set on low volume and binoculars seem to be an almost permanent fixture near his eyes.

Re: Incident

Michelle nods and gives the vehicles a quick once over to make sure nothing is left under them and they have enough fuel in them, and then grabs what meager supplies she has left. Almost instinctively, she Jumps into the drivers seat of the BTR 80. for so long she has been the only one who could drive it. Shaking her head, she moves over to make room for a new driver (If there is one) and checks her weapon and ammo. "Well," She says with a rueful smile at Finnegan "I was going to ask for a small escort team to go with me to the school to search for ingredients to make antibiotics. Kind of glad I didn't now. But keep it in mind for when we get back.Because antibiotics are going to be needed worse than ever now if we got more wounded to bring back."

Marcus steps to Maj Finnegan and gently tugs on the officer's sleeve to get his attention, as the Major's attention is gotten he speaks in a low tone, "Permission to go on this op." with "Sir" added as an afterthought. His request is more of a statement than a question and is stern and earnest. Something plays in his luminescent blue eyes that means business, and there's also something else perhaps that's uncharacteristic or just hard to discern. Either way he is quite serious and doesn't seem like he will take no for an answer.

He feels the tug on his sleeve as he continues climbing in, and nods to Smith, motioning for him to enter the vehicle also,"Quick before they notice your gone."

Bernhard smiles at Smith as he takes his seat inside the cramped vehicle.

Marcus nods as he hops into the BTR and crams himself inside, he never did like being mounted, he's always been a lightfighter. There's definitely got to be something more than gusto to get him into this deathtrap. He checks his weapon and gear as best as he could in the cramped quarters. Satisfied he gives a thumbs up to the Major before settling in for the ride by leaning against one of the gun slit portals readying his AKM to fire out of it just in case.

Listening to everyone else's assessments Brown remians quiet as his eyes lock on the rising plumes of smoke.  As everyone scrambles for their respective vehicles Brown sets his jaw and tears his eyes away from the smoke just long enough to climb into his assigned vehicle.  Nodding to his crew he places his AK with the barrel on the window and sets his eyes on the smoke once more.

Taking a seat behind the commanders station (lets observe how these infantry types operate) and donning a spare headset if available.

"Perhaps charging into the Hot zone would be a bad idea. One group got ambushed there today.
I suggest we pull up a click short and move in on foot, hold the vehicle back as support for when we make contact. Perhaps we can gain the element of surprise and turn the ambush inside out."

"I was thinking the same thing Major Smythe. Brown maybe you could radio the recon team. Have them see if they can find the mortar team, and silence them. That might draw off some of the ambushers. Divide and conquer, hopefully we can catch them moving from the ambush site to the mortar location."

"Yeah Smythe I agree, we should drop our dismounts about half a click out, and when the shooting starts, the armor can roll in to our rescue."

OOC I am assuming the vehicle commander is closest to the radio.

"Nix that plan, I changed my mind. Samuels, move out to link up with the recon team, we will pick them up and get an idea of info they have on the situation. I don't trust the radios with that kind of unsecure talk so face-to-face is better for sitreps. Once we hear what they have to say, we will plan accordingly. I don't think we should split and take the mortars and other attackers at once, we don't have the strength for it."
