Candy and rum, Warrant Officer.  Candy and rum.  Keeps the hands happy it does.  Not that I wouldn't say no to a nice brick of chocolate.  Been ages since I've seen one much lest tasted any.

Thank you all for the welcomes.  Quite cordial of you.

Get on with you!  Sorry lad, but without my toothbrush and dentifrice I'm afraid you'd do aught but rot my teeth, sweet though your offer - and you - surely are.

Please let me know if anyone wants to do anything in the village or talk with the locals. I'll give it a day or so and then move on.
I'm assuming the group is still headed for Krakow and possibly the disposal of the various goods you've picked up (including the blueprints scavenged from the ambush site near Czestochowa so very long ago).

Tanya, thanks for pointing out I didn't too a great job posting my rank and uniform.  I put some of it in the character description, but even there it's not very clear.  I really appreciate you letting me know!

Guys, Eryk and I have decided that we'll be dropping out before commiting fully.

Thanks for the game, it's been great. Thank you to Nuked for all your effort and the PMs as I asked questions rather than read through the backstory.

Good luck guys, here's hoping Krakow has the answers! :)

Gerhard out.

Re: OOC2

Who's staying and who's going?

Just from a character standpoint, Sebastian will be tempted to stay. The village seems worth helping and the kids at least seem to like him. His countryman is staying behind. His closest friend, Doc Brooks has left. Krakow was a goal for Sebastian simply because it promised a respite. This ville seems just as good if not better. Why should he go on?

I'm Krakow bound, mainly because I believe that's the way the story arc is intended to progress.  I'm also staying in the game, despite the slow at times pace.

Gerhard, Eryk I'm sorry the game wasn't a good fit for you.  I hope you find more great RPing in the future.

Re: OOC2

Like I posted, Browns first thought would have been staying in this place as well. The major had to convince him to go on with the mission and move to Krakow. I agree with the Lt Cmdr on the issue when she sais it's where the story is taking us.

Brown will be going by each and every one of you letting you know what the major said and trying to convince you to join him.

It might help me work out a rationale for Sebastian moving on to Krakow if I knew what "the mission" was. I haven't been able to figure out either IC or OOC. So far, Sebastian's mission has been trying to stay alive and get back to Germany.

I know the story arc is headed to Krakow but might it be possible to play this out as a "fortify the ville, get to know the locals, and repel all enemies" scenario? Nuked probably doesn't want to keep playing the gads of NPC's, though, and I can't blame him. It's just a thought.

Re: OOC2

See message #17 of this thread.
The main, long term goal of the group is to get back to friendly (preferably NATO) lines. With that in mind, and also to avoid probable (re)capture, the group headed south from it's starting point of Zudunska Wola - a little to the east of Kaliz.
Out of the original eight who escaped imprisonment, only Don, Cam, Tanya, Brown and Andy remain although Andy, and probably Cam will remain in the village due to players dropping out or disappearing.

Along the way several vehicles were captured including the BTR-80 and BRDM. Others included a UAZ-469, 2 1/2 tonne truck and an M2 Bradley. These extra vehicles were left behind with characters as they dropped by the wayside - the M2 was mainly left due to extensive damage that required repair and it's hideous fuel consuption compared to the other vehicles.

Just outside Czestochowa and shortly after rescuing a number of PCs (Maj Finnegan, Smith & Virgil amongst them), a recon patrol heard an ambush trigger just a kilometre or two from it's position. The decision was made to investigate and half an hour later the patrol discovered the ambush site - a US Special Forces unit had been attacked and wiped out to a man. Only one survived the onslaught but died of his wounds soon after being found.

quote:
Once the man has been located and tools retrieved from the BTR, it only takes a minute or two to clear a path through the scrub for a medic. Michelle is natually the best person for the job and so scrambles in as soon as possible. It's immediately evident that he is not likely to survive more than an hour or two.

“Schaeffer, Frederick L... Lieutenant,” the man manages to say. “Mission ... mission accomplished... almost. Operation ... R-Reset. Got that? Reset. Got to get them through...”

The Lieutenant's story comes out in bits and pieces. He frequently lapses into delirium, but is better able to speak as he is made more comfortable, and especially if a character with Medical skill is able to treat him for shock (stop his bleeding, keep him warm and his feet elevated, and give him him IV fluids, if any are available) and pain (administer pain reliever, if available).

His unit is, or rather was, a B team of the US 20th Special Forces Group. At first, all that the characters are able to understand is that Schaeffer's unit was carrying something of vital importance, that their unit immediate destination was Krakow, and that they were ambushed by marauders with the aid of a traitor.

“It was that damned Cutler,” Schaeffer says. “Sergeant Cutler. He ... he led us ... right into a trap. He was with the Captain in the lead Hum-Vee, and they didn't fire on him. He was with them when they rounded up the prisoners. Like he was in charge. He was with them when they marched us over to the woods...”

Schaeffer had been among those captured by the marauders, who he says numbered between 50 and 100. The prisoners had been led to the edge of the woods, herded together, then machinegunned. Schaeffer had been hit, but managed to crawl into the underbrush, his escape concealed by the fall of his comrades. He'd lain hidden in the underbrush while his friends were massacred, stayed hidden while the vehicles were stripped and the bodies looted. He'd lain there, his wounds draining him, until he'd seen the characters' arrival and managed to get their attention.

“Listen to me," he says with a desperate, burning intensity. “This is Operation Reset. Got it? Reset. We were carrying vital plans. Blueprints. Films. All the way from Lodz. They're all there ... I don't think they got them. Can't let them get lost. DIA needs that stuff ... bad ... real bad...”

Re: OOC2

I've given this quite a bit of thought and I've decided to stay true to my PC's character. Sebastian isn't really going to care about completing a special mission to Krakow. He's just wanted to find someplace "safe" from the war and that's why he was headed to Krakow. Now, he's found a bit of a refuge and countrymen who want to return home. Besides, no one's ever even told him about the RESET mission IC. And, let's face it, he hasn't really bonded with any of the "old guard". I designed him as not much of a fighter. I wanted a character that would be fun to RP but I've had trouble building or sustaining much interaction with other characters. Also, as a player, it's really hard to get into things with the start and stop pacing of the game.

So, I guess this has just been a long way of saying that I'll be dropping out of the game and that I would like Sebastian to stay in town with the others.

Thanks to everyone for the RP'ing. Thanks especially to Nuked for all of his hard work. It's been fun, but I just don't think this game is for me. I'll definitely be checking in to see how the characters are doing.

Take care everyone, IG and IRL.

Peace.

WO1 William Brown:
”I’d suggest you, as the senior officer, take lead when we head out tomorow. I’ll make sure to stay close and advice when necessary."

That's exactly the way it usually works in r/l. NCOs, senior NCOs in particular have many years, even decades more experience than most junior officers.

Sad to see you go Sebastian. Sorry to say the pace of the game has largely been my fault - Life hasn't been exactly accomodating the past few months but with a little luck (and an extra body around the office), I'll have more time, and in particular energy, to devote here.

Don, please don't write down and post everything we have.  That's not my intention for you to do and it would be redundant.  After all, the equipment thread already exists.  Could you just RP Don either following the order or not?
