Re: Outside

Don, standing by himself at the eastern door having it only opened so that he can see some of what is going on outside.

Ah well, hay. I guess they have the horses in there. Maybe I should've been riding some more in my youth. It ought to be a good way to get out of this place.

And the civilians are obviously smuggling some food to the prisoners, then they can't be all that bad. On the other hand, the reason they give them food is probably that the soldiers doesn't feed them at all. I guess the foodrations are somewhat low in this part of the army, so they need the food for their own troops.

Well, I guess it's not a well suited time to start babbling about the Geneva Convention...

And not a lot of people to babble with anyway.

Re: Outside

"God on Earth! What have you been doing, my good man? You are practically covered in blood?"

Don gets shocked when Dave returns with the new uniforms and weapons, but puts it all himself, mostly since it will probably let him be recognized as a Polack instead of a Scotsman.

He stands by the door, but with the uniform intact he gets a little braver and he tries to see some more of the neighbourhood. I never goes further than a few meters from the door, before he walks back.

"Hey laddy. Shouldn't we get over to the horses and check them out? Or should we rather strole over to the civilians? I guess noone would raise an eyebrow if we should go there and get the civilians away for the prisoners, And then we would get a great opportunity to speak to the prisoners ourselves.

By the way, didn't you find any cigarettes or other stuff? It's a lot easier to get someone to talk, if I have something to offer him. Cigarrettes probably works whether it is a soldier or a civilian..."

Re: Outside

Don sees that there is a constant traffic of Polish soldiers in the general area, all on some errand or another. Occasionally a patrol mounted on horseback rides out or another returns, usually with a few wounded US captives.

The captives are led into the compound and forgotten about - it is up to the other captives to untie them and tend to their wounds with whatever meager supplies they have (usually just bandages torn from their own clothes).

Even though the Poles do not pay much attention to the captive, it would not be an easy task to free them. The compound has no cover nearby, so anybody going near would be spotted very easily. Any attempt to actually open the compound would be sure to attract instant attention from the Poles.

One other thing that Don notices is the machineguns emplaced in defensive positions, ideally located to bring a hail of steel jacketed lead down on any would be rescuers.

Re: Outside

"Uśmiech! Uśmiech!"

Don shouts out loud that a fire is roaring inside, while getting into his gear, and starting to walk with the outhers, eastbound. If meeting any polish soldiers, he quickly speaks to them, telling them there is a fire in the hall.

All the time he continues to the east, covering up for the others in the group if they get into trouble.

Re: Outside

Don, you need to roll a difficult Disguise or Language (Polish) skill (whichever is lower, in your case Disguise) test to convincingly copy the proper accent.

Roll a D10 on the dice roller. I will allow a -2 bonus to the roll because it is only one word and at a time of stress for the soldiers.

Re: Outside

Without a tremble on his voice, Don convinces the soldiers that there actually is a huge fire. He manages to get the right accent of this far-off area of Poland. Not a big problem since he listened to the guards chatting when staying in prison.[Private to GM: At least this is what Don thinks. I just saw that I only had 1 in disguise, so I guess the result should be below 1 then?]

Re: Outside

The natural charms of the Politician shine through as Don convinces the doubtfull Poles the group runs into, that they are really just escaping the flames.

The inhabitants of the camp are soon scurrying about like ants, organising a bucket chain. Most eyes are on the flames starting to lick from the windows. Unfortunately for the escapees, the men maning the PK,s while distracted, are still in their positions.

Re: Outside

Don keeps his head down just as any polish private running away from a fire would have done. While doing so, he tries to have a clear picture of where people are running to, and from.

He is wondering what kind of plan Mr Nelson actually has.

"Shouldn't we try to 'save' some of the horses? We will be pretty soar in our feet if we have to walk a lot the next couple of days."

Don is thinking for himself that he knows he can't actually ride, horses being big and dangerous animals. But, nonetheless they surely could help carry the equipment to whereever we are going. And some of the girls could ride, all girls like horses, that's a known fact.

Re: Outside

Tanya keeps scurrying towards the garbage tip, looking (as with most of the polish soldiers confronted with an inexplicable fire, no doubt) like she doesn't have a clue what she is doing; possibly trying to get away, possibly trying to get water. She looks around for anything that might prove useful near the garbage tip in combating the fire, which would thus provide a useful alibi.

The party of escapees moves quickly towards the building they assume is being used to house the horses.

You reach the southern door in the west wall without any alarm (other than the fire) being raised. The door is presently closed but you know from previous observation, that it is unlocked.

Re: Outside

"Aye, laddie. Let us try to keep the soldiers in here busy. First with fetching water, and then when we have collected the horses, let us set this barn on fire as well, while we are sneaking out in the back."

Don runs into the barn, looking for some kind of watertap and a hose, made for watering the horses. If finding any, he gives it to one of the Polish soldiers, so that he can get out and try to put out the fire. The important thing is to get the soldiers out of the building, even if the waterhose is too short to reach to the other house. From there on, he wants the soldiers to build a chain of buckets. If there are buckets Don asks one of our group to hand them to the Polish soldiers.

Re: Outside

Sounds like a plan. One suggestion, rather than riding off into the sunset (something that may look a little suspicious when exiting a burning barn as if we are riding off for a normal patrol) why not set fire to the barn and make like we are getting the horses out? Then once everyone is distracted (either by fighting the fire or if we tell them to look at the goodyear blimp) we just gallop the hell out for our very lives and hope we can outrun them all.

"Ok everybody inside, get a horse ready for yourself, we ride out of here while we have a good opportunity". Alfred orders those that can hear him. Alfred when walks inside of the barn & collects the tack & harness for a horse before trying to place them on one of the horses in its stall.
