Manor House and Cottages on the Estate.

The Manor House and Cottages on the Estate are on an Isle of sorts, and has acres of land and woods around it. There are a couple of warfs and a bridge from and to the isle.

As their official guide showed them to their Manor House, wagons, carts and pack animals were coming and going at the doors of the house bringing in furniture and supplies, foodstuffs and place settings, linens, blankets, household goods, books, decorations and servants galore. At the stables, horses, tack, and carriages were being delivered.

"Here you are at your Manor House. You all own the property together but can't sell your portions, or rent it out. There are small but well built cottages sprinkled throughout the property. They range in sizes and shapes so are suitable for bipedal or quadrupedal citizens. For now we will proceed to the sitting room of the Manor House."

She sat and watched the scenery go by as darkness started to fall. The view of their manor house was stunning, as they came around the drive, circling around the trees and past several cottages each nestled in their own bit of lawn and copse of trees. There seemed to be  6 or 7 cottages from what she could see, and further on they passed stables and wash houses, and a smoke house and a creamery, and poultry runs, and who knew how many out buildings before finally approaching the manor house in a loop drive.

People seemed to be busy every where, and deliveries were still being made. A man came down the stairs to greet the carriage. He opened the door and greeting them, offering a hand to help her out. Then he led her up the wide shallow stairs to the entrance, then inside to the Great Hall. There were a variety of tables around two huge fire places. some had chairs all around, some had few chairs but room to stand around.

"Hello Madam. Welcome to your new home. You may chose any room in the Manor House, as none have been claimed yet. There are large rooms on the ground floor without furniture for the centaurs. The rooms for the humans are on the second floor. There are private bathing rooms in each suit, and there is a hot steam pool room in the basement. The pools range from hot to cold. There is tea awaiting everyone in the Great Room as well as wine and cordial. The servants have already taken your luggage to the trunk room and will deliver it to whichever rooms you chose."

"Thank you for the information Sir. I will await here while my boy searches out my rooms. He knows what I like. Then he can inform the truck room servants where to send my
luggage."

She sat down at one of the tables with a tea service and sipped her tea once the servant girl had poured for her.

Knowing his Mistress well, lilbug was already investigating the various rooms, determining which one would best meet with the Lady's approval.  Going from room to room, he examined each in meticulous detail.  He was very impressed with the architecture, construction and furnishings.

It was typical, in some regards, of an Arnish pallazius (manor house) but much newer and more sturdily made than most he'd seen; not surprising really when one considered that it had been made on the orders of the Empress Sidi herself.  She had not spared any expense, and it showed.  The place was magnificent!  Soon lilbug found what he considered the perfect choice for his beloved Lady and rushed to tell Her so.

He found Her in the Great Hall, sipping tea and seemingly lost in Her own thoughts.  He came around in front of Her, his knees folding with practiced grace as he knelt on the colourful woven rug before Her.  Leaning forwards, he nestled Her soft boot with his cheek and waited for Her attention.  Mistress had worn his very favourite boots with Her lovely dress.  It was very hard for the besotted slave not to gaze at Her like a lovesick pup, but he did his best to keep his eyes down until instructed otherwise.

"I have found the best room for You my Lady.  I have informed the servants where to move Your belongings, as You instructed.  Shall I go and assist them?  I can begin unpacking and supervise their placement if You desire, beloved Mistress."

She smiled down upon her slave boy and rested her hand upon his head, then ruffled his curls. She loved him beyond what she had thought possible, and her heart filled with joy. He had changed her life and for the better, not at all a burden as she had feared.

"Well done My boy. And did you find a home for our friend here? I am sure he would appreciate a nice wooden box to sleep in and some nice china bowls for food and water. And possibly a large roasting pot for clay bits for his toilet."

Her other hand was curled around the stray cat, who seemed content in her lap, though there was still a somewhat woebegone air about him. She stroked him gently then handed him to lilbug.

The sword mistress sat quietly in a rare reflective moment as she looked over the island and manor.  There was an area that would be a spectacular area for a large paddock and corral.  Rich in grasses and access to clean water.  Entering the large manor hall she sought out the areas that would be most defensible and areas in need of strategic upgrading.

Manor House Great Room

As per usual when it came to traveling by carriage, Crow chose to hop up onto the roof and lay down on top of it.  Chewing a piece of straw out of the corner of his mouth, he laid down and looked up at the darkening skies.  He wondered how long it would be before the stars came out to greet them.

Cooper, the raccoon looked up at the stars.  He chittered away at his human companion.

"Hey, I know."

Chitter Chatter

"Ha!  That would be funny!"

Cheep Chet Chat

"Aw, c'mon dude!  Too soon!"

Once the manor came into view, the young bard stood up and, from his high vantage point, looked out across the land laid out before his eyes.  Grinning widely, he leaned over the side of the carriage roof and poked his head inside.  While hanging upside down, he addressed the ones riding inside, "Hey!  I see it!  The manor!  Take a look, you guys!  It's awesome!"

It wouldn't be long before they arrived at their destination.  Jumping down off the roof of the carriage, Crow enthusiastically bolted for the entrance, right past the man who came to greet them.

Motoko sat within the carriage, cleaning and maintaining her blades carefully.  There would be time for it later, she knew, but she couldn't help it.  It was something for her to do until they had arrived at the manor.  Felix, the little kitten by her side was asleep for the moment and wasn't in a playful mood.  She supposed she could play around with Petal for a bit... but there was no telling when they were going to arrive and if their play got cut short...

No, it would be better to wait until there was certainty that they had enough time to themselves.

"To be honest, I'm not very excited about seeing the manor house itself," The young swordswoman admitted to her slave girl.  "I'm more looking forward to checking out the cottages.  We can have one all to ourselves, so I'd much rather stay in one of those than take a room at the manor.  What do you think, Petal?  Should we check out the rooms anyway, just in case?"

As soon as they arrived at the manor, Motoko sheathed her blade and picked up Felix.  Carrying the small kitten in her arms, she hopped out of the carriage just in time to see Crow bolting for the manor.  A small chuckle came out of her as she remarked, "Well, I guess he'll be taking a room at the manor for sure, then."

Petal rode quietly, but her eyes were bright with excitement as she watched the city pass by. Watching Mistress for a bit and blushing at the look in her Mistresses eye on occasion. Straightening the cloth of her silk dress nervously then smiling and giggling at the kitten's antics.

" It is beautiful and quite large. I have seen many estates but this one is rather large." Petals eyes  went to the cottages in the distance."Of course Mistress You may need to have a cottage remodeled."

"Master Crow is Excitable isn't he Mistress."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Brother Galen had been enjoying his reunion with the lovely woman seated next to him when Anu entered.  He continued to converse with her, trying to convince her to come and see his monastery, now that she had finally come to Milath.  He gave her his full attention; it was not necessary to watch the rest of the room.  Events would unfold in their own time, exactly as they should. And so when Anu approached them, he was not in the slightest surprised; he had been waiting.

Putting his hands together and bowed his head to Anu, gazing at him silently, and then a smile spread across his face like a spring sunrise.  To both Anu and Mariasha, the respected monk looked very much the same as the last time they had seen him.  As always he was relaxed, a calming presence to everyone around him.  He still refused to dress in a master's robes, content to don the simple black robes that denoted a wandering member of his order.  And yet no one would mistake him for a humble novice... he carried himself with a quiet assurance that spoke volumes for those who knew how to listen

"Greetings Anu, it is always a pleasure to see my students.  I do wish to speak with you later, since you have asked.  I do not believe you have met Mariasha as yet.  She is a friend that I spent time with during my many wandering days.  She has a kind heart, and is most skilled in the healing arts.  You could learn from one another, I suspect, and as she will be staying here also, it may well be that you will."

A balm to a fevered soul, she had forgotten how it was to be in the presence of her old friend and mentor ,Brother Galen. Her slight apprehension at the unfamiliar assemblage settled somewhat and she allowed herself to give him her full attention.  She smiled in response to his attempts to have her come visit his monastery.
Perhaps She spoke softly, There is much I wish to speak with you about.
She did not offer more, yet a shadow of something lurked for a moment behind her eyes before they settled back into tranquil pools of soft violet.  Smiling, she turned to greet the man that had approached Brother Galen.
I am pleased to meet you, Anu.  I would be honored to share what knowledge I have with you.

His smile, though somehow hesitate as if foreign to him , seemed to transform his features and she could not help but find herself responding in kind. The smile that touched her lips reflected in her eyes and she found herself curious to know more about him.

"Lady Fairaday is most certainly correct," Brother Galen answered his friend in turn.  "This beautiful animal is owned by someone who cares deeply about his welfare.  Perhaps there is someone in the city who seeks him even now, saddened by his loss.  It would be right to inquire around, for he belongs with his family, that is clear.  The Lady is also right in that this story seems incomplete.  If he was so well cared for, why is he lost and alone?  Only by finding his owner can all be understood and made right."

Crow remembered the last time he met Brother Galen at the temple.  The seven stringed zither he received from the monk was slung across his back.  The instrument had served him well and he was grateful for the gift.

The young bard had entered just in time to hear a bit of the conversation happening.  He glanced down, noticing the little kitten for the first time, whose owner was apparently still a mystery.  He wondered if perhaps there was a way to identify the little critter's owner.  Motoko would probably be better at doing something like that.

Shortly after Crow entered the Manor, Motoko stepped in through the entrance as well.  She was immediately awestruck by the beauty and size of the estate.  She told herself that she was going to live in one of the cottages no matter what, but she couldn't help but feel tempted to retract that statement.

Of course, she too had noticed Brother Galen at the table and walked over to greet the monk who gave her Tadashi and Shohenji.  Those two blades served her well over the course of their travels, especially against the dark fey.

"Brother Galen, it's been a while," Motoko bowed respectfully to the monk, palm clasped over fist in greeting.  "How have you been?"

The swordswoman immediately noticed that all attention was on the ragged looking kitten.  Felix, the other little kitten, sprang up from Motoko's arms and bounded down onto the floor.  The small critter glanced about, curious about this new environment.  He noticed the other kitten that had the attention of everyone else and immediately became curious.

Motoko walked over upon hearing that the mysterious kitten's owner was unknown.  She tilted her head thoughtfully as she examined the kitten, wondering if there was a way to identify its owner.

The others seemed to pay her no mind to her inquiry.  Rather than mope it was time better spend on other matters then.  She moved to the new rather bedraggled cat in her friends arms.  "It seems to be scratching himself quite a bit, and his fur is matted quite badly.  Let me fetch a bowl and water I have some herbs that may help him" She looked to find a basin to use, finding one in what looked to be the kitchens area.  Returning she poured some water in the bowl and used a few leaves that lots of oils in them and mixed them in the water , gathering a rag she dipped it in the water and wrung it out until it was damp.  "Here we go little one....This won't hurt you" she said quiet and gentle, rubbing about the head and neck.  She let the oils coat some of his fur, letting it loosen.  Only the toughest of tangle knots would remain, and they would be able to be easily cut.  "Easy, easy....be calm" she spoke to keep the animal from panicking.

He barely had time to smile towards Motoko and Stardancer as well, before the ragged kitty had warranted their attention.  The humble monk hoped he had not seemed rude.  That certainly was not his intention and he would apologize to them both later.   If there was one thing that Brother Galen was a master in, it was patience.  There would be time later for reunions and introductions.  It was more important by far to find the poor lost tom's owner and reunite them if possible.

And so he remained quiet as was right.  He would make certain to introduce himself and Mariasha, at the appropriate time.

Xi watched carefully as the others fixated upon the animal.  A slim dagger she offered, to cut the fur...or the collar if need be.  "If this animal had an owner then perhaps we should see the owner first then decide if the tom should be returned....Such cruelty for a defenseless creature is intolerable."

Calm as the placid surface of the temple well... That is what Mariasha had to remind herself to keep her mind as so many strangers converged in one place. She did not want to appear rude by not responding and the situation at hand seemed to leave little opening at the moment. What was most important was the health and well being of the lost cat and it would seem the mystery that surrounded him.
She moved to offer what she could for the cat, but stepped back with a glad heart as the beautiful centaur took charge of the situation. Mariasha watched with interest and respect as Stardancer eased the tangled hair around the cat's collar.

What mysteries do you hide little one?... She mused as she watched quietly from the sidelines, on the edge of the little group a part of them and yet not.

"We do not hear much of the outside world, living at the Temple.  It is my understanding, however, that the young Empress has the love and respect of her people.  They love her because she loves them and so they turn to her with smiles as the morning wildflowers turn to the sun.  And thus there is harmony in the realm.  The death of Pro Consul Talaric changed very little.  He was a man who cared only for himself while he lived in this world, and so no one cared about him when he left it.

To understand more local events it is best to go to the taverns, inns, and markets where the people gather.  There you can learn much that is not heard elsewhere.  The broadsheet could indeed be most useful, if someone has lost a pet."

Stardancer continued to calmly work the knots of matted hair, finally ony a few bits remained.  Out of its eyesight she gestured to Rinaldo for a slim dagger.  Keeping it distracted she carefully cut the creatures fur, and released it from the collar.  Massaging the animal a bit she spoke softly "No matter how gilded the cage....it is still a cage." wondering if the collar left any lasting marks.  She handed the collar to another to examine.

Brother Galen quietly stepped up to stand beside Mariasha.  He watched with interest as Stardancer freed the ragged kitty's collar.  He smiled easily, scratching the kitty and quietly calming him with slow, gentle pets and kind words, until the kitty was purring audibly.

"Stardancer, my name is Brother Galen, I am a monk from the Temple of Enduring Truth and a friend of the Empress.  You do not know me, but I have heard much about you.  Forgive my rudeness earlier, this has been an eventful evening.  That does not excuse my behaviour, however, and so I humbly ask your forgiveness."

He bowed deeply, respectfully, and with the practiced grace of someone who had spent his life doing so.  His face is a kind one, his smile bright and warm.  Most striking of all, there is a stillness to him; as peaceful and calming as a moonlit lake, and yet quietly strong, like a mountain.

"Mariasha is a dear friend of mine, and I have been remiss not to introduce her properly.  She is a devoted and skilled healer and, it is my hope, we will all be good friends."

He soon returned with all that was asked and more on a large cart.  Cooked meats, fresh cheeses, condiments, and bread and butter for sandwiches.  Another platter was piled high with grapes, melon slices, figs, dates, several kinds of ripe berries, apples, and plums.

Behind him, another servant brought silver trays with shaved meats, cooked eggs, and even a small platter of cooked filleted fish, along with bowls of fresh water.

Lastly there was as servant with a cart on which was a samovar filled with hot tea, along with honey, lemons, cream, cinammon and other spices.

Re: Manor House Great Room

She watched lilbug run around doing her bidding and smiled at his eagerness to please. She loved when he was happy, even if it sometimes made her feel strange ordering him around. But knowing how much he loved it made it strangely pleasing to do. It was almost comical to her how she had gone from a quiet shadow hugging distrustful lonely woman to an indulgent and somewhat harsh Mistress all at the same time. She laughed and gave lilbug a swat on his hairy butt as he went by.

She watched closely as Stardancer freed the bejeweled collar. She smiled encouragingly to her as she carefully teased out knots and...as the water ran red, dried blood it would seem. Of course with the torn ear, where one of the cat's ear studs had been ripped out it had bled and snarled the hair as it dried. But upon closer examination, there seemed to be more blood in the cats hair than could be explained by the small tear in the ear.

"Too bad we don't have a healer with us. We could repair his ear without leaving a torn ear. Poor thing. Where did all that blood come from?"

Allow me to help, Stardancer, I am a healer. Mariasha offered with a serene smile. She made certain to make no sudden movements as she settled on the floor beside the injured cat. Then she gathered the cat gently into her lap and with deft hands she examined him, humming softly as she worked.  She easily identified the torn ear, however the amount of blood in cat's hair did pose a concern until she confirmed that it was indeed not it's own. Once certain of all his injuries, Mariasha set to work. Her violet eyes settled upon the task her before and she continued to hum softly as if it helped her concentration.

She could feel the silky strands of the cat's hair, wet and slightly oily from Stardancer's administrations, and beneath that the warm flesh and muscles. His heartbeat steadied out, as if it kept time with her humming. Soon she felt the familiar, comforting warmth build up from her core and pulse through her nerve-endings until it pooled around her hands in soft, white light.  Gently she cupped those glowing hands over the torn ear, she could feel the cartilage and skin knitting itself back together. She did not pull back the light until she was certain that the ear was whole once more, only then she drew the threads of power back.

There, little one, does that feel better? She whispered, as she gently scratched beneath his chin.

She nodded her head as she reached out her hand to stroke the head of the cat then slipped the collar back around his neck. She made sure it wasn't pulling hair or tangling them gave him a scratch under his chin before backing up.

"I fear that is correct Rinaldo. All the facts so far point to it. The collar has overlapping spells of protection and spell resistance. Likely if he hadn't fallen or been pushed out of the window he might also have been killed. He was in all likelihood a mage's familiar. He has an aura of magic about him."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Azael walked about the estate for a bit with Sparrow before heading into the main house." Very nice. don't you agree Sparrow. That one over there will do nicely I think."

He asked motioning toward one of the cottages, then paused.  " I overheard the Astrologers offer. A very tempting choice considering your situation."

He had simply acknowledged her words in silence at the palace and rode in silence through the entire trip out to the estates. Watching out the window of the coach and ignoring her a good bit until he spoke.

"You chose my collar over freedom. That gave me something to think about."  He took something out of his satchel. A hand tooled leather collar fitted with a small lock ad clasp, a small metal plate bearing his name and sigil on the lock." I had already planned to purchase you if you were not freed. It seems that you had already decided this was what you wanted as well."

He removed her current collar and replaced it snapping the lock through the clasp with a definate click. Taking her chin gently but firmly in is hand and turning her face up to his.A satisfied smile on his face as he looked her in the eyes. His dark eyes intense and focused on hers." You are mine"

Fairaday:
She  smiled at the beautiful woman who had healed the cat's ear. She offered her hand in greeting. Then she introduced the others who lived there.

"Of course you will be welcome to join us in helping with finding out what happened to his Master. It may be that we will need to find him a new master or Mistress. Of course he will always be welcome to stay here if he wants. He could be our official Manor Cat. As he wishes of course!"

"By the way, I am Fairaday. My boy is lilbug. The centaur is Stardancer. Motoko and Petal and Xi went to get the broadsheet. That is Crow there. Azrael and  Sparrow, Rinaldo and Petal finish out the group. And of course you know Brother Galen."

Hearing his name, lilbug blushed, nuzzling his Mistress hand affectionately and then pivoted on his knees, somehow making it look graceful, and bowed to Mariasha, his hazel eyes gleaming brightly.

"It is an honour to meet you, Lady Mariasha.  I am certain my thoughtful Mistress would gladly allow me to bring you anything you might like and it would be my pleasure to do so."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Sparrow followed Azael quietly, lost in her thoughts. At his prompting, she paid some attention to her surrounding, admiring the palatial estate that Azael had been given. "It is very beautiful", she agreed.

She said nothing about the Astrologer's offer. In truth, she would prefer not to dwell on it. It was a momentous decision and like any such, she wasn't sure she had made the right one. Considering it still made her nervous. And scared to be on her own in the world.

She let him take her collar off, and shivered slightly when the new one's lock clicked. She looked up into his eyes, holding his gaze for a moment, before his intensity made her instinctively look down. "I'm yours", she said quietly, with eyes downcast.

She laughed softly as the Queenie gave the tom a lick. He seemed to enjoy the attention now that he wasn't in pain anymore.

"I think she liked you Magic One. I wonder what your name is? We will do our best to find out what happened, don't worry. Meanwhile, would you like to stay with us? I promise we won't bathe you every day. But we will feed you and give you as many pets as you want."

She tried to send images of him being fed well, soft beds and loving strokes if he wanted them. Maybe Stardancer could also try to tell him.

"Stardancer, if you can, see if he can let us know if he wants to live here with us, or find a new home. If he doesn't understand, we'll just leave the door open for him to come and go if he wants to."

The merry slave boy grinned when little kitty rubbed up against him, scratching her gently between her ears until she closed her eyes and purred twice as loudly as before.  Lilbug loved animals, as most slaves did.  In some households they were the only ones who would treat a slave with any kindness.

He was very curious about the ragged kitty.  Everything they discovered about the magical tom was more and more incredible.  He beamed with unabashed delight at the idea of adopting the poor orphaned cat.

"Really Mistress, we can keep the cat?  I promise if we do I shall look after him and he shall want for nothing."

He turned his head, hearing Stardancer's comment on the ear bauble.  "He has trusted you with his thoughts and feelings, that is no small honour, and certainly there is no cause for shame, Stardancer.  Great Padros, I wish I could speak cat...meow meow...meowmeow meowmeow..purrrrrrrrrr...hehee."

The humble monk listened in silence, placidly watching all that transpired while he waited for Motoko's return.  He noted that Mariasha had already begun to make friends, and he smiled brightly.  She had a natural kindness that gathered good karmic energy around her.  She would do well in this company of brave and good minded people.  Brother Galen was reminded of an old folk saying:  'Keep good company, and you will be accounted among them.'  It was as it was meant to be.

He simply needed to speak with Anu and Motoko and his tasks would be complete.  He imagined that Anu would have returned to Sidi's service, which was right, after all.  Motoko... she still seemed restless to Brother Galen, like a wandering wind that could not find a place to rest.  And yet, he mused, she was closer to finding her place than she knew.

He contemplated the plate of fruit he had chosen and slowly ate a nice plum.  He decided he had never had a better one.

Talk of turning in for the night made Mariasha uncertain once more, since leaving the monastery all those years go she had not spent much time under a roof or even around people. She watched quietly as the others made their way to their rooms or cottages, trying to decide what she would do. The moonlight coming in from one of the balcony windows caught her eye and she found herself drifting toward it.

Perhaps I will sleep on one of the balconies tonight. Tomorrow I can find a room, or cottage that suits. She thought with  a soft smile, her hand resting lightly on the handle to balcony door.

She turned back to face the room to find Brother Galen, Goodnight, Brother Galen. Thank you for everything.. I hope to see you on morrow, there is something I wish to discuss with you.

Stretching his arms high up over his head, Crow gave out a yawn before turning toward the stairs.  He had yet to pick out a room for himself and if he didn't hurry, he might get stuck with... actually, what room in this manor wouldn't be great to have?  The broom closet?

As soon as he turned to leave, however, his raccoon friend started tugging at his pants.  He looked down and noticed the little critter was looking toward Mariasha.  The racoon looked up at the bard and started speaking in chitters and chatters.

"Eh?  Really?" Crow scratched his head, not sure what to make of what his familiar just told him.  He glanced over toward the red-haired woman, then turned his eyes back down again just in time to see the raccoon bound over to the woman.  Before he could react, Cooper had already climbed up Mariasha's back to sit on her shoulder.  Crow quickly rushed over to pick the raccoon up off the woman's shoulder. "Ack!  Sorry about that.  He's not usually like this.  Okay, that's a lie, he's normally like this, but..."

Cooper took that opportunity to slip out of the bard's grasp to climb up onto his owner's head and settle there instead.

She turned her attention over toward Brother Galen and remembered that she hadn't had the chance to hold a proper conversation with him yet.  She had learned quite a bit about the secrets and origins behind her swords and wondered if there was more to uncover in the future.

"Brother Galen," Motoko greeted the monk.  Her hand gently rested on the hilt of Shohenji.  "Thank you again for Tadashi and Shohenji.  They've proven to be incredibly valuable during the journey to Valkandis, especially against the Dark Fey."

From what we were told there are enough rooms for all of us, and a few cottages for those who don't want to be in a larger house, or who wants more privacy. But do be comfortable tonight. It makes no sense to sleep on a public balcony. If you prefer a stone balcony though you can have a private one, but surely a bed would be more satisfying."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Motoko:
Motoko furrowed her brows, wondering what it was that Galen wished to speak with her about.  She wondered if perhaps there was some other concern.  Well, she wasn't going to find out until she responded.  Placing her fist in her palm, she replied, "Of course, Brother Galen.  I was hoping to get the chance to speak with you as well."

She reached out and opened the door that led out to the balcony.  She paused as she turned her head back over toward Petal.

"Go on ahead of me, Petal.  I'll catch up with you later."

Once they are alone on the balcony, Brother Galen quietly looks up at the stars for some time, gathering his thoughts.  When he turns his attention to Motoko once more, his expression is one of fondness for his dear Okoshan friend.

"Motoko, I appreciate you joining me here.  The stars have always comforted me, and help me to think.  The night sky is indeed one of the greatest gifts the gods have bestowed upon us, but that is, of course, not why I have asked you accompany me here...which of course, you already know."

He pauses, composing his words carefully, as he always does.

"I would like you to come to the Temple of Enduring Truth.  I would like your help with a... guest we currently have there.  Perhaps I should start from the beginning, that is always the best place:

"About three weeks ago, a young Ikoshan woman came through the gates of the Temple and, without a word to anyone, she went to the eastern corner of the gardens and began to meditate among the grave markers there.  Since that time there have been several brash bounty hunters who have come to fight her, for she does indeed have a price on her head, though I do not know why.  None of those foolish enough to challenge her have survived the encounter.

"She calls herself, Shi no Tenshi and fights with two long blades.  I wish for her to find some peace, for she is clearly a troubled soul who cannot overcome her own demons.  So much death and anger has disturbed the harmony of the Temple as well, and my fellow monks are deeply concerned.  I thought perhaps, as a fellow kensai, you could understand her, and help her in some way to find the resolution she seeks?"

Motoko's interest perked at the mention of an Ikoshan warrior.  What was more, she used two long blades.  The two-sword style was already quite the uncommon sight and even among these practitioners, most used shorter blades such as knives or short swords.  The young warrior woman listened closely and intently to Brother Galen's story, growing more curious as he explained the situation.

Though she had wanted to help with the investigation of the wizard's murder, she could not help but wish to meet this mysterious... Shi no Tenshi...

"Shi no Tenshi?  As in... Angel of Death?  That's an... interesting nickname to have," Motoko scratched her head, not entirely sure what to make of it.  It would be one thing if somebody else called her that.  It wasn't unusual for particularly skilled stand-out warriors to have a nom de guerre bestowed upon them by others.  The fact that this woman called herself that, however... made it sound a little less credible.  Still... she took out a bunch of bounty hunters.  There really was only one way to find out just how skilled this Angel of Death truly was.  Motoko gave Galen an affirmative nod and said, "I have no idea whether or not I'll be of any help, but I'm willing to try.  I'll speak with her first thing tomorrow morning."

"Yes Mistress, I promise I will not be long my benevolent Lady,"
lilbug replies looking to Lady Fairaday with such utter delight that no one could ever doubt his complete devotion to her.

Turning to Lady Mariasha, lilbug bowed respectfully.  At her assertion he actually blushes then smiles disarmingly.  "It is most certainly no trouble, Lady Mariasha, it is my pleasure and privilege to be of service, always.  This way if you please."

So saying, the ever gleeful slave leads Mariasha to the sleeping quarters and waits while they find someplace suitable for them both.  He attends any last minute needs they may have, happily retrieving anything from additional linens to late night snacks.  Once they have settled in for the evening, and decide to dismiss him, he bids them a cheerful good night and rushes back to his waiting Mistress.

The night passes too quickly, but no one has to get up too early. In fact, it's going on 9 am before anyone stirs. Those who do, find a small feast of foods being kept warm on a side board in chafing dishes in the dining room. Caffe and Tea and chocolatte and fruit juices as well to drink. There is plenty for all, and leftovers are given to the charity hospice afterward, still warm and delicious.

Xi had risen with the sun as she oft liked to do.  The room in the main manor was large.  A balcony allowed her to enjoy some of the morning air wafting through.  Only half dressed she practiced a bit and worked out to keep her skills honed, easier to do out of armor. After a bit of sweat on her brow she decided to wash up and start her day.  The basin of cool water and strong soap had been placed upon a table with 3 towels.  Using at least 2 she cleaned her self of her perspiration and grime.  After dressing, for the day she put on her armor.  Taking time to note areas in need of repair and maintainance.  She left her main weapons there in her room, but did at least take her dagger, as one should never be without some protection.  Down the stairs and into the main hall she noted that food and plates were set up.  Apparently there were some servants about, or a very creepy squatter.  She looked about for the former, just to be safe.

Re: Manor House Great Room

Dawn had found Mariasha on the small balcony of her room,a modest but well appointed room, that Lilbug had shown her to the night before. After she had explored it thoroughly she had retired for the night and now she sat across legged upon the hard cool stone of the small balcony in just a light tunic and linen pants. Cupped in her hands, prayer like, was a pendent in a intrinsic shape of a tree and her long fire red hair flowed unbound down her back to her waist with no hint of a wave. She had sat like that in silent prayer and meditation from before the sun began to rise until the blush of early morning. Then she rose quietly and returned to her inner chamber to wash, grateful to the servants that had left the small wash basin, soap, and towels. She made a mental note to herself, as she retrieved her own herbal soap, to thank the staff on hand properly. Washing quickly, Mariasha donned a fresh tunic and breeches before throwing on a her hooded robe. With deft hands, she braided her long hair and then went downstairs.

She was not surprised to find that she was not the first one down when she entered the main hall. "Good morning."

She came down the stairs, smiling a quiet enigmatic smile, eyes sparkling with humor. She entered the dining hall, following the scent of tea and food. She smiled at Xi then turned toward the buffet. "Good morning."

She helped herself to a plate of fruits and cheeses, bread, bacon, ham, lettuce and tomato slices. She headed to the table to set her plate down, then went back for a pot of tea and a lump sugar. She sat down, poured a mug of tea, shaved off some sugar from the lump and stirred it into the tea. She blew on the tea until she could sip it, then took a few swallows.

She carved off some slices of bread off the rich dark sweet smelling bread, layered ham, bacon, lettuce, apple slices and a white sauce, topped it with another slice of bread, pressed it together well, then took a bite. She chewed slowly, watching to see how long it took her slave boy to show up.

"No, I haven't met them all yet, but I am sure they have been vetted for us by Hieronomus and Sadina, and the Empresses secret service. And since magic isn't all that prevalent, I doubt it is magically created. Magic, for those very few who can use it, is almost as much effort and physical labor. Indeed, since many who do have magical abilities are weak in it, it might even be harder than a days labors to work it."

"Only those with sylvan blood have even a touch of magic, and the elves left a very long time ago. Only Afrael guarding the Heart keeps even the smallest magic alive to tap into. If she ever goes on to join her kin, even that will slowly fade away and the magic will die out most likely."

She took a bit out of her sandwich and chewed slowly, thoughtfully. She did wonder how long the magic would linger once the Elven Princess left her lonely vigil. How many centuries, ye, even millenia could one survive alone?

The young bard continued eating as he listened in on what everyone else's plans were going to be like.  He looked between Xi and Fairaday, taking note of who was going to be investigating the wizard's murder.  He was interested in investigating as well, of course.  It's just that...

"I kinda promised Hieronymous that I would be taking my studies seriously and it'd look kinda bad if I showed up late, right?" Crow explained himself to the others.  "If there's still some time left in the day, I'd be more than happy to join you two in investigating the mage's murder."

Getting up from the table, he smiled and said, "Speaking of which, I should probably get going right now.  Again, don't wanna be late, right?"

Gathering up his raccoon familiar, he dashed out toward the door of the Manor.  Now that he thought about it, though, Hieronymous never really specified a time.  Crow just assumed that they were to start lessons in the morning.  That's how it usually worked when it came to studies or training of any kind, right?

Re: Manor House Great Room

He watched his Mistress stalk out of the room and sighed happily.  Looking over to Mariasha, who seemed concerned, lilbug blinked and smiled broadly.

"Isn't she amazing?  I do not deserve a Mistress as wonderful as my Lady Fairaday.  Padros, God of Slaves be my witness, I am truly the most blessed servant in Arn."

He nodded then to Mariasha, watching Lady Fairaday return to Her suite.  "Of course I will take your letter for you, should you wish for me to courier it to Grand Master Galen, Lady Mariasha.  Simply leave it on the table for me to pick up if you wish for me to so.  Farewell for the moment.  Coming Mistress."

And off he ran to catch up to Lady Fairaday, the delighted expression never leaving his boyish face.

Re: Manor House Great Room

Azeal entered the great house dressed as he usually did a dark cloak wrapped about his shoulders his face cloaked by a long wrap of similar dark material. He held Sparrow leash in one hand, but handed it to her as he entered the main hall.Pausing to adjust the drape of the simple, if slightly revealing, light silk dress he had given her.

"Good morning, I hope all are well rested he spoke after a moment."Sitting down afer he uncovered his face and swept his cloak behind him.  "Sparrow, bread, cheese, and a cup of cider. fetch yourself a plate as well."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Stardancer brightly lit the room with her smile, especially at Rinaldo.  It had been so long since she felt like she belonged someplace.  Not because someone was ordering her to, but that she came to care for the two leggers...especially Rinaldo.  Since she got to the breaking fast she began to dish plates for others and handed one to Rinaldo.  Seeing Sparrow and the rough Azael come in she partially dished up two more and handed them the Sparrow before making her own.  She also found a few odd plates and placed some egg and meats on them for the two cats, hoping the others would not mind.  A soft ear skritch for both as they ate on the chair they claimed.  she brought her plate over towards where Rinaldo was.  Eating after Rinaldo started she would listen to the conversations.  She wondered if Rinaldo wanted to investigate the wizards place, the city, do more shopping, or explore this island.

Xi was nearly done with her meal as the others began to awaken "Good Anu...I wish I had known you awoke early.  I would have joined you for some marshal exercise.  I am sure we both could have sharpened our skills." she then drained the juice from her goblet.  "Lady Fairaday.  If you will excuse me I will gather my gear and be ready to go to the wizards abode.  I do think the wizards familiar should be watched more closely though, and I can think of none better that our centaurian friends pet.  They seem quite close this morning"

"It looks like our friends are going to go poke around  the wizards tower after lunch" Rinaldo commented to Stardancer favoring her wth a smile that was brighter and more  cheerful than was normal for even his cheery disposition. Tasting each dish, and offering her a bite if he enjoyed the flavor. his Bright cheerful and the bright almost but not quite gaudy clothing at odds with the Military proper dress of Anu, and the somber menacing appearance of Azael."I was thinking we could go to the market and pick up few things, and then meet up with them and head over.  Between my interest in catching a killer, and my curiosity. I can not quite come up with a good reason not to tag along. What say you Oh most beautiful lady."

" I try to keep a proper schedule. I am used to rising two hours before first watch, if you wish to join me."Anu replied to Xi, nodding slightly. As usual, there was a slight pause before he spoke as if considering his words before speaking." If you wish I would be quite happy to have someone to train with. A soldier's body and mind need to be properly toned and disciplined. If I wish my own men to be properly fit and disciplined I should set the example."

Re: Manor House Great Room

Sparrow caught the end of her leash and stood quietly, looking down demurely, while he fiddled with her dress. At his words she nodded and quietly padded away towards the kitchen to fetch the food.

It took her a moment to find out where the plates and cups were; but it was not difficult to find bread and cheese, and the cider had been laid out already, presumably by a servant. She filled a cup and two plates, and returned bearing them uncertainly, the two plates in one hand pressed against her body while she head the cup with the other. Somehow she managed to get this all to the table without dropping anything. She laid one plate before Azael, along with the cup, and then padded back, holding her own. She wavered, then knelt on the floor, a bit behind Azael. She held her plate with one hand while she ate with the other.

"I would be honored to be at your side" though the last time she was in the market some ignorant children wanted to ride her like a horse, she nearly injured one.  "Perhaps we can pick up some small baubles for the felines, to help aid thier hunting skills.  I know little mama will want some things to to help her"

Having ate and rested in the morning sun Little kitty was content to stay as she was for a bit simply watching the two leggers, and 4 leggers come and go.  She moved only to readjust getting comfortable and laying her head on the black toms shoulders, purring contentedly.

Spying the cats, the kneeling slave girl smiles and plucks a tiny bit of sausage from her breakfast plate. This she offers to the felines, holding it up at the end of her extended arm for them to see.

The Tom jumped down and padded over to the lady offering him sausage. He usually was not allowed sausage but maybe this time it would be ok.

He daintly takes the bite so his lips don't even touch her fingers.

 "Mreer."

Re: Manor House Great Room

It was a wonderful nap.  With a titanic stretch and yawn Little Kitty woke.  The tom was nowhere about, but that was a problem for later.  Carefully she leapt to the floor.  Servants dashed this way and that.  She made her way through the maze of rooms and doors, hallways and what have you.  Finally she made her way outside and padded lightfootedly through the foliage of the near island.  The sights and scents she took in.  the things to see and explore.  She sniffed and smelled which of her 2 and 4 legged friends went where.  And what hidden areas would be most useful.

Kitty finds many interesting places to explore, with fantastic scents, cobwebs in places the servants didn't find, little alcoves and nooks where kittens might be safe, even finds a room no one else seems to have been in for years and years, with a tiny narrow staircase leading down into cool blackness with musty scents coming from below.

Re: Manor House Great Room

ooc: Sorta reconning this (hope it is okay)

BIC: The others seemed to have split off as Xi returned. "Well, I would agree save for Stardancer.  You know how impulsive she can be." the island was more like a peninsula with several places on it.  The main house was where they were heading.  "We noticed the animal was not only starving and injured, it was wearing jewels as well.  In this case earring studs and jeweled collar.  Stardancer helped calm and treat the animal as did a young monk like girl.  the cat was fed and healed.  One of the studs Stardancer put in her ear and she could ...well kind of talk to it." she did not know how to explain it really "Stardancer saw images and magic and its owner being killed, that is how we know it was a mage.  Ah here we are, Home away from home for now" she showed them the main manor.  Already in the distance other noises could be heard, such as the faint hoof clips of Stardancers evening dancing or prancing...which ever but it was rhythmic.  At the door she was met by one of the servants that ran about in silence.  She informed him to have a meal prepared for her ponyboy and a suitable place for him to rest.  Like her and the others he was as important as the Empress gestured they be, even without the symbols.  Failure would be a horrible consequence.
Entering to the feast hall most were gone save for the two cats asleep on the chair.  One was obviously known as Stardancers little huntress, the other Bruto was informed was the cat in question.  Food was soon brought out for Bruto.  "Sleep as long as you like tomorrow.  You can join us at the Mages house when you wish. and hopefully the others will be up and about as well" She smiled happy her slave, and friend, was back.  When we get the chance we will check out the other smaller manors to see if one is suitable for us both"
A manor servant would show Bruto to very comfortable quarters for him.

He absorbed everything that Xi told him, noting the servant.  Being served by another was a little disconcerting, but he'd have some experience with it among his own people.  "A hot bath please and some trimming and brushing, before fresh fruit and a place to sleep."

Refocusing on Xi. "Did Stardancer see who or what attacked the mage?"  He was hoping to play with the mystery a little while he rested.  "Don't leave for the Mage's place without me, even if you have to pull my tail."  He gives Xi a smile.

"lilbug."  It was mostly the fight with the fiddling dark fae that haunted him most.  To see his mistress dancing at the whims of the creatures music, where exhaustion meant death.  "those decisions... were seconds count, still haunt me."  He was convinced that there was a better solution at hand, but he still lacked the knowledge to know what that decision could have been.

He bathed as she ate, eventually drying himself off and joining her.  Eating some fruit while a slave saw to his hooves.  "Knowing what we know now of the dark fae, do you think that there was a better way of finding a victory, then the path we chose?"

She thought about it "No...Even the dark fae had choices they could have made.  The ones they did had consequences.  They chose to overturn order in favor of chaos.  That would have hurt everyone eventually" She could not help but show a bit of an approving grin as Bruto came out of the water.  Though apart only a few months he seemed to have changed a bit.  Instead of the unsure young stallion, stood one filling out into a more solid self assured stallion.  One no doubt he would eventually lead a herd, not just follow in one.

Curiousity made her wonder where the tiny stairs went.  Carefully she would test it.  Her extra width and all making sure she would not get stuck.  Before entering she rubbed her cheeks leaving a gland scent there, if anything to make where she had gone and to find her way back.  Though dark there was still some light to see by.

little kitty carefully goes down the tiny steps.
