Re: Mage's Towers

Motoko took a look around, attempting to see past the darkness, but to no avail.  She then took a sniff at the air, hoping to be able to identify something by scent.

"Something... or someone's keeping us from using our own lights.  Hopefully, it's for the purposes of another test of some kind."

Re: Mage's Towers

"Thank You Mistress, I was starting to feel like a seat cushion, I kind of liked it, actually."  The pleasure slave grinned a bit sheepishly at the admission.  He focused his attention on the strange green light and then followed Crow.

"He's right, of course my Lady.  Let us go forth and see what can be seen."

"Magical light.  What about torches?" she suggested. A mage may not have taken it into consideration.

Re: Mage's Towers

The floor is uneven and rough but you make it to the walls... where you see faint green lights, and a few yellow lights. They are small green insects crawling on the walls, with brighter yellow lichens they seemed to graze upon.

Making his way carefully along the rough floor, the pleasure slave manages to make it to the walls, his eyes widening at what he sees.  He smiles softly and looks back towards Lady Xi, Crow, Motoko, and sparrow, then over to his beloved Mistress.

"Look Mistress, little bugs :)"

Re: Mage's Towers

"Hmm... a torch?" Motoko looked around before setting her eyes on Crow's backpack.  She walked over and reached into her companion's haversack, rummaging around for a bit before producing a torch.  She then attempted to light the torch.

She made a mental note to buy a lantern as soon as this was all over.

Her eyes went over to the insects and the brighter yellow lichens.  She searched her memory, wondering if she had heard of such creatures before.

Re: Mage's Towers

You think the torch lit, because you feel heat from the end, and the licking of flames, but no light shows from it. Only the light from the insects and lichens.

"I hope they won't go all 'Fairy swarm' on us." looks around and up to see if there is a way out or around the bugs.  Also looks to see if the bugs glow brighter.

Still very curious, lilbug examines the insects and lichen, then placed his hands together and closed his eyes:

"Padros, Father of Slaves, if these creatures and the plants they consume are blessed with enchantment, reveal it to your faithful servant, I implore."
  He prays.

lilbug speaks his prayers and slowly the colors of aqua and gold strengthen as the bugs twinkle and the lichens glow brightens. He can see the brightness of the bugs and lichens but there is no other light.

He looks around and sees only the glowing reflected in his companions eyes.

Re: Mage's Towers

Grinning softly, he turned to look at everyone, searching their eyes for confirmation of what he'd learned.  After a moment he grinned to himself and spoke.

"Padros has given his servant a moment of understanding.  These insects and the plants I believe they feed upon, are magical in nature.  They are the only source of light here, because this place is enshrouded in some sort of gloom spell.  Magical darkness verses radiant insects and plants.  That's why our torches and even my light spell won't work here.

"The question is...why?  Some sort of test perhaps?, to see if we could puzzle it out?  Perhaps the mage only liked clever company."

Re: Mage's Towers

"Well, if they're the only source of light, then maybe we should be taking them with us the rest of the way," Crow shrugged as he reached out to touch the lichen.  He had no intention of taking any of the insects, but he figured he could gather up some of the plants and put them into a bag, then hang it from a stick.  That way, it could be used as a make-shift lantern of sorts.

The lichens peel away from the wall and glow for awhile but slowly dim lower and lower, while the lichens and the insects on the walls keep glowing.

Re: Mage's Towers

ooc: You stepped through a doorway into total darkness, slid down a long drop/slide to land in total darkness...except for some glowing along the walls of a tunnel or cave. The glowing comes from lichens and insects.
Magic light and mundane light doesn't seem to work.

The room may be dark, but atleast it seems no one is dead yet. Begin at the edge of the lit up bug wall.  Start feeling around to get a sense of the rooms size and shape.

Re: Mage's Towers

It's hard to tell in the open, since there are openings in the walls here and there. Some are but shallow alcoves, other's are smaller caves and some are narrow tunnels. The light of course seems best in the narrow tunnels since the space is much smaller, and walls are closer together.

"It seems as good a way to pick a path as anything", said Sparrow. "Otherwise, we should pick a path that looks like it leads... I was about to say out of the tower, but perhaps there is a path that leads back inside, meant for the mage to come down here."

"I suggest we take one of the narrow tunnels and see where they go," says lilbug,  "At least we will be able to see better where we are going.  How about this one?" he suggests, indicating the nearest of the narrow tunnel openings.

"I suspect there's only one way to know, Lady Xi." lilbug answers, heading into the tunnel where the light is better.  Looking back, he smiles at everyone.

"I do so hope this will take us to where the Mage was smitten.  This way my friends."
He continues forward to whatever awaits at the tunnel's end.
