"Come now, Alejandra," said Esteban as he parried her blade effortlessly, "you can do better than that." Her brother smiled fondly at her despite his taunting tone.

"Arc your swing, see? Like this." He twisted his blade skillfully in a feint, which slipped under her defense and struck her energy shield with a spark.

"Now you try." Esteban waited for her attack with a ready stance and his usual cocky smile that she both despised and adored.

"You think you're smart," she smiled, readying her stance and mimicking the technique he had just shown her. Whatever her parents might want her to be she was never going to let them seperate her from her brother. She was sure he felt a similar affection for her.
"We're the same age, remember? Stop patronising me and start-" she twisted out of reach of his parry, "teaching me!"

Her blade slipped past his defense and set off his energy shield with a spark.

"Good!" grinned her brother proudly, raising his sword back up to guard. "Keep it up and one day you'll be as good as me!"

...as good as me...

Those words echoed in her thoughts, stretching back through time to the girl she once was. If only her brother had known how right he'd been those many years ago. If only he could see her now... He would be so proud of her...
