well Communion allows elves who TRULY Trust each other (this cannot be coerced, by either military orders, or by magical compulsion) to share their spiritual esssence in a way that in addition to the fluff, gives them a bonus on attack rolls in each others presence... Manifestation just lets you seem great and majesticby using the natural features to your advantage (though it works best with outsiders)

Being the new guy on the block, my perspective is that the game has been faltering since I signed on and I have not gotten hooked by the game or have become attached to the character.

If you guys want to continue, then I'll stick around.  If you guys want to close the game down, then that's okay with me.

Being a multi-class character, I'm thinking that Meeka would then be bumped up to a 2nd or 3rd class level.  Jumping to 2nd class wouldn't be all that far fetched, just a big bonus point award.  3rd level is bit bigger of a jump but if that's what people would prefer or it allows for a bit more enticing encounters, no worries from my end.

Being a non-dwarf, I'd put the shaving in the same category as sending the fellow back stripped of his clothes as well as his dignity.  Mean certainly, but not evil.

Of course, if I were playing a dwarf character, he'd certainly would have done his damnedest to kill the commander for such an insult, even if his own life were forfeit in the effort.

Playing dwarves frequently, I'd sayt it was a grave insult.  Certainly one desrving of a dark vengeance and a long, burning anger.  But while creul, it was not in and of itself Evil.  It also certainly was not Good, nor even humorous in a rougeish fashion.  But think, what is Evil?

In Arminna's mind, the action crossed a line.  As a priestess of Eilistraee, her job is to work on improving the reputation of good drow, and this work in direct counter to that.  Furthermore, she feels that this action is more in line with a follower of the Spider Queen than the Dark Maiden.

I certainly respect the opinion and have no interest in trying to change Arminna's mind on the issue.  That said, I'm just curious.  If the goal is to improve our reputation with the dwarves, then why help take down a dwarven patrol?

From the mindset of being a drow with little actual knowledge of the dwarven enemy, Meeka thinks this is rather tame when stacked against the atrocities of war of which she has learned.  Of course, she only knows of dwarves by reputation (aside from our adventure) and has no concept of just how egregious the dwarves would view the shaving.

Her goal is not to improve the reputation of the drow with these dwarves, but the reputation of the drow in general.  These dwarves are evil and at war with good drow, so she has no problem with taking them down as long as it's done in an honorable way.

You'll have to get it, and spend some of its charges, to find out, lol. Well try deciding what to do with wands, remember this is 2nd edition, some wands (like Enemy detectoin) can be used by anyone... id reccomend that a wizard take the wand of magic missiles, its all to easy to use up, but it will give you some extra firepower.

hes a Fighter mage thief though, so his XP will be spread THIN. so you might try discussing IC which of you should get the wand... As both of you have the problem of low levels in early editions that you rmagic is so easy to use up at this point... latter on you'll get more spells a day, and such.

The Banded armor btw has STRONG enchantment, I'ts either +4 or 5 I'll tell you that much. When I found I wound up rolling so many gemstones I decided to change them to uncut stones, partialy for game balance, partially because it suits the scene better.

I rolled a 20 for the wand "GM picks, thought about wand of wonder, but decided that would be too powerful at this point... so would a wand of fire... which id REALLY like to bring in lol... enemy detection is I know of limited use lol.

All bard abilitys function at 3 levels higher, including spell abilitys, though bards cant memorize extra spells.

That's a very valid point I hadn't considered.  I still think it would be rather more difficult then working with steel, though from what I seem to recollect at least the Drow armor/weapons don't need the services of a mage to make them.

Valhriir, as a warrior/mage/thief, you'd split it three ways 6,666.67 to each class.  Since your DEX and INT are above 16, I assume you get 10% bonus for the thief and mage classes.  So, by my reckoning and not counting any other experience awards you may have received previously:

   Warrior - 6666.67 experience points - 3rd level
   Wizard  - 7333.33 experience points - 3rd level
   Thief   - 7333.33 experience points - 4th level

Spellbooks

you'll need to try buying scrolls (you have a few allready on hand) you can also try sharing each others books.

as you will want to expand the size of your spellbook.

hmmmn 3,000 GP to divide amonsgt the party, (will forgo the searching for someone to purchase the gems etc this time... but in the future you should try finding a connection or two amongst appraisers... ingeneral they take up to half the items value for themselves but also save you trouble hunting down a buyer.

Oh did I fail to include the treasure found on the dwarves?

The best way to describe 4th edition is this

its BALANCED

Every potentialy unbalanced power has been removed, or dumbed down till its balanced.

Re: OOC: a tavern in a Protected City.

3rd edition had some GOOD points...

The abolition of demihuman level limitations.

PRC's allowed for more flexibility

It also had one or two NOT SO GOOD points.

An almost obssesive focus on playbalance,

Most notably EVERY SINGLE Priest spell, whos major balancing factor was

"Insert gods name here" Only grants this spell under VERY EXTREME circumstances."

was either totally ommited or dumbed down a little mayb,e and handed over to general use.

I was a bit of a fan of quest spells and the like.

even 4th edition has one or two good points.

I also Miss my evil drow priests with Snake whips and tentacle rods

GONE All GONE

not to mention drow no longer lose power in the sunlight.... Elaine cunningham tried to give a cool explanation for it in windwalker... but the REAL reason

what was it?

Simplification.

Namely

"It ends the "open ended level upping" of 3rd edition

And restores the 30th level cap.

As well as I see some value in the Epic destinys.

However What it does to the cosmology, and the planes, I felt like id been RAPED when I read it.

Also, Arminna is thinking that a trip to Waterdeep would be good for Meeka, which would dovetail nicely with what's going on with Meeka's conversation.

I'm good not going to Waterdeep, just responding to Arminna's comment.

As to a stronghold, near a city vs. near the border and facing dwarves vs. random monsters....  I would lean towards near the border and facing random monsters I think, though they are only slight inclinations.  It depends more on how each of these would impact our gaming experience, but not sure how that could happen without giving away spoilers, which would negatively impact the game for me.

"I love not a sword for its sharpness, a an arrow for its swiftness, or a warrior for his glory, I love only that which they defend. When you have retired from the war, think of what you will do from there. will you go into research? Will you craft new enchanted swords and armor? Will you teach?"

she asks pointedly

then "A peice of advice, before the war became a fixture in our lives, it was an almost universally practiced tradition... these days its still referred to but once it was cusomary to spend years roaing the planes seeing the world outside of these Caverns, see the sun feel the wind, before coming back here, where we belong, and taking a role, with what you've learned from the rest of the multiverse"

I'm guessing, but I'm not sure, that this is all said to Meeka by the shade of her grandmother.  Can I get a bit of clarification on this matter?

I wasn't thinking a full fledged adventure in Waterdeep, just a visit to the temple of Clangeddin Silverbeard (I'm presuming that Arminna knows a dwarf there from her time in the Skullport/Waterdeep area) to introduce Meeka to some good dwarves.

My knee-jerk thought is going the stealth route.

While we don't have a tank, Arminna seems decent in a fight and Meeka's half a warrior herself.  And while Meeka falls far short of being a great mage, she's got a bit of skill in that arena.  So stealth seems to be the area in which we're most lacking.

You know better than us what we'll be facing and what would fit best.  If we're going to be facing a lot of traps and locks, a thief is called for, if we're going to do more sneaking about and scouting, then a ranger works well.

Not being able to make an enlightened choice, I lean a bit more towards ranger than thief.

An evil Drow ghost whos corpse was mutilated and shaped into furniture by an especialy evil and depraved dwarf centuries ago harried the PC's while they escorted a group of pilgrims to the city of shrines.

an NPC Subcommander delivered an extreme insult to a dwarf commander by cutting his beard off....

And a group of dwarves

As to where the PCs are now their in Arborea deciding wheither to explore Arvandor or Olympus, and has just heard the tale of woe of a eladrin who was punished for duing the right thing.

I believe that Arminna is the only Player Character at this time, and that we have a scout/tracker (I can't recall his name) with us.

You could name it based on the current mission and then when we move onto a new mission open a new thread and close that one. That's how I've seen that done in other games.

Potential new name could be: o Sympathy for the Simpathetics

Re: OOC: a tavern in a Protected City.

Thanks.
I've actually got one of these 90% completed on my PC. I just need to get it imported into the Character Details seection on the right here. it let's me change portrait, biography or description but the area beneath (where a char sheet woud display) is blank.

It's best if the GM tells you that stuff (xp and so on).
I made some suggestions but haven't heard anything since (although to be fair it was only in the early hours of yesterday).

At level 12 you can usually probably afford to buy a tower or small keep; certainly starting to build one.
I'd suggest whatever mundane equipment that's listed in th PHB and that you can rountinely carry.
If you must have a number, how about 12,000gp?

Re: OOC: a tavern in a Protected City.

Sure. Based on the previous "thinking of starting you guys at L12", I gave a suggestion a few posts above.

It was:
"At level 12 one can usually probably afford to buy a tower or small keep; certainly starting to build one.
I'd suggest whatever mundane equipment that's listed in th PHB and that you can rountinely carry.
If you must have a number, how about 12,000gp?
"

And, for full context, that was considered as well as the previous suggestion on magic items.

I gave my recommendation before. it was:

"Another GM (very experienced; like has a great answer for anything you ask) ... allowed (char level/3) in magic items. e.g. Level 7 start gains (7/3=2.3=2), so +2 in magic items; or Level 11 start (11/3=3.6=4), so +4 in magic items, and one one specialized ability. e.g. a spear of returning, or "sword of +2/+4 v specific things. Sometimes he threw in a little something else, I think like a potion of extra healing.

I hope that helps."

Re: OOC: a tavern in a Protected City.

You're the GM, so you tell a story in which our characters can play a part.
You can either use a published module or steal from a film or book or make up your own.

For example:
GM - "You hear footsteps approaching.."
Player - "Booted? Or unbooted, sounding like what?"
GM - "Booted."
Now, you as GM need to figure out whether the footsteps are made by a human? Or what?
Why is the person there? Wher eis (s)he going? And coming from? And why?
Are there more than 1 sets of boots approaching etc
