Within the hour, Belanger's Land Rover appeared at the gate. It was let in and made its way up the long drive. Belanger got out, leaving his C1 Sterling SMG on the seat. He was looking tired and still had some bandages from the firefight of a couple days earlier.

"Hello everyone. How are things? Beautiful day." He helped himself to a homemade beer and a steak.

In reply to Taras Vladimirovich Shevchenko (msg # 508):

"Not too bad. We just spent the morning scoping out the blast area southeast of here. Someone nuked Abbotsford International Airport. Maybe even the border crossing nearby as well."

He sipped some beer as well. It was a warm, late afternoon spring day.

"Hey Alain.  Good to see you.  Tremblay has it right, looks like an airburst, everything for kilos is smashed flat around the airport."

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 511):

"Good to hear things are all right. I'm doing better. So's Gunny Conklin." The Marine sniper had waged a 1-sided war against dozens of mercenaries plus a tank to fend them off from overrunning Belanger's position. He went to hospital with several serious but non-life-threatening wounds.

"Ok, everyone, gather around. Change of plans. New orders from Commander Clarke-Sullivan."

Kelsey whistles low and comes up to take a look at what Belanger has.

"Good.  Glad to see you moving around.  What do you have for us?"

In reply to Alain Belanger (msg # 512):

Taras introduced Belanger to Andrews. "A good man. He has been living with the aboriginal band on Barnston Island and McMillan Islands in the Fraser. They had some problems during the flooding but came through ok.

"Commander Clarke-Sullivan is commander of our Department of Reconnaissance and Investigation Detachment based at University of British Columbia (UBC). Mr. Belanger is head of government intelligence in the enclave at UBC."

OOC: I think Abbbot has been around long enough to meet Belanger. Andrews might have met him previously but not formally.

In reply to Taras Vladimirovich Shevchenko (msg # 514):

"Plased to meet you, Sergeant. Welcome to the team."

Without further ado, he pulled out a map.

"Ok. The border crossing is something that I think Koldan and Tyler are best suited to following up on this angle. We kind of missed that group of Americans yesterday, it seems we might have to follow them over the line and I prefer using "civilian" assets to do this.

"Next, we've had word that the surviving upper-echelon biker cadre plus mercenaries are regrouping in the eastern part of the lower Fraser Valley, at the Stave Falls Dam near Mission. A team is being organised to recce the area, and once we know what the situation is we'll strike. This might be more of a heavy military and police operation but we'll see. Taras, you'll take command of this operation."

"Sadly, no.

"You'll have some of our other personnel from the Burnaby forward base. PLus the vehicles.

"The rest of you will be going by boat to Vancouver Island, under Kelsey's command. Kelsey, you're getting a brevet promotion to Lieutenant, 2nd Class.

"DRI HQ is worried about a possible buildup on loyalist Soviet forces at the northern end of the Island. It's going to be a couple week assignment at least, and you'll be on foot."

Kelsey perks a brow at the sudden promotion.

"I don't suppose you brought the update to the uniform, eh?"

She chuckles, peers in at the map to see where she is going.

"I feel a lot safer on foot, personally.  Who do I get with me, and do we have any expanded mission parameters such as contacting locals?"

Belanger. "I'm just the messenger! Report to Commander Clarke-Sullivan today, she'll do the real honours.

"She'll also brief you on your mission. I would suggest most of the team with you. Minus perhaps Darek and Able Seaman Lo, who could go with the Cougar."

"Congratulations, Lieutenant!" Taras looked happy for her, but still a little let down his team was getting broken up after all this time working together. "On to bigger and better things for all of us."

"Kel, I'd like to stay with you. I got a girl back on the Island I'd like to see, and if this mission involves water I'm your man."

A smile and a nod to Taras.

"Thanks Taras, that means a lot from you.  You taught me a new approach to tactics that I hope to put to as good a use as you have.  The rest... well, let's get back to UBC and get our brief and sort it out there."

She nods to Taras and Bellinger.

"If that is good??"

"Bear in mind this is a brevet promotion due to the command structure on the Island. Do well and it will be permanent. The original plan was to promote you to Warrant but I think we need some actual thinkers as officers now that our ranks are expanding."


OOC: As a CF Sergeant Kel is currently rated as OR-6 (OR = "Other Ranks" or Enlisted), equivalent to a US Staff Sergeant (E-6). A CF Warrant Officer is OR-7, equivalent to a US Sergeant First Class (E-7). Above that is Master WO (OR-8) and Chief WO (OR-9). The last two cover five different ranks of US Sergeant.
