RTJ and Character Generation

  1. Character Generation starts pages 90-91.
  2. Nationality can be almost any: Canadian, US, former Soviet (due to a recent amnesty) are the most common, followed by Commonwealth (UK, NZ, Australia).
  3. Characters with any police training or experience (MP, pre-military career, etc.) will be part of the RCMP or RCMP Auxiliary.
  4. In addition, all PCs will be part of a Canadian government task force (the Department of Reconnaissance and Information). This is a joint Canadian Forces (CF) and RCMP task force but includes contractors of different nationalities, including former opposition combatants (who have received amnesty).
  5. American PCs have been vetted as loyalists of the US Federal Government (aka "CIVGOV"). This is because the Canadian Federal Government sees its civilan counterpart in the US as the only legitimate one, despite its flaws. As well, the DRI maintains connections to the CIA and often operates in conjunction with them.
  6. Character attributes can be randomly rolled if desired.
  7. Optionally, you may use the point buy method. If so you start as experienced (56 points for Attributes).
  8. No starting officers allowed or NCOs over the rank of US Sergeant or Canadian Master Corporal (E-5/OR-5). (You can still receive the benefits, if any, but not the rank. This is to prevent new players from joining the group and immediately assuming command by virtue of character generation. But unlike most T2K games PCs in this one are actually promoted through their actions and competence over time.)
  9. We are not using Stage III options like Advantages, Disadvantages (although you can incorporate some of either for RP purposes) or Survival points.
  10. Characters also receive 10x "Learning Experiences". These are skill improvements. If you roll above your character age on percentile your skill goes up by 1. (If you fail, you fail.) You can make up to three rolls on any one skill, ten attempts total.
  11. Canadian OR ("Other Ranks") PCs start with 1 free rank in French (or English, depending on their native language).
  12. PCs recruited to this team receive 1 free additional rank in Aquatics with the SCUBA qualification.
  13. As well, due to the advancement in the timeline all PCs may take an extra "Final Year" (so 2x Final Years). This year can be any appropriate option (usually Twilight warfare but Irregular, Displaced, Rural or Urban survival as appropriate is fine). Received Rads are halved due to airborne radioactive particles are almost completely absent but contamination still lingers on in food and water supplies. But no extra dice for equipment and no promotion.

RTJ and Character Generation

Starting Gear:

New PCs will use the standard T2013 method for starting gear. That is you receive up to your Emergency load (21 + MUSx2 + FIT + RES) in any gear at no cost.

In addition I am allowing you to take your starting gold/trade allowance (Personality TN +3 check; if you succeed, your character begins play with 100 + (25 x margin of success) grams of gold.) in starting equipment as well. This allows you to "buy" cheap items like clothing and packs, freeing up that weight.

After, you roll your equipment dice.
