Going on Safari: Before Dawn

Eric salvaged what he could of the pieces of the M60 that had been mounted on the sidecar, after he and Taras disarmed the remaining IED and recovered the explosives for (probably) later use. Father Nick led his mule Beaucephalus around and collected the three corpses (more or less) of the bikers who were killed by the IED.

Not long after the dust settled, as the team discussed sweeping the town, a couple of POVs (Privately Owned Vehicles) made their way over from the island where the Qwantlen First Nation band was located. They drove up towards the fort but waited about a half-block away. There were two passengers in each cab and four riding in each bed (12 persons total). One mad got out and proceeded with his hands up. He was wearing civilian clothing and was armed with a sidearm (probably a Colt M1911) which he held above his head.

Rachel identified him as Chief Albert "Al" Williams, the elected leader of the nearby Quantlen Reservation and he was someone the team had met before and interacted positively with.

Mac came out to greet the First Nations leader.

"How may we serve, Chief?" he asked politely, and then offered coffee.

Kel will come out to join Mac, smiling and waving to the Chief.

"Chief, sorry to alarm you with all that ruckus.  What can we do for you?"

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 3):

Smiling with a touch of relief, he put his pistol away in a waistband holder. His people hopped out of the trucks, there was a women in amongst them. Most were armed with shotguns and hunting rifles, but there were a couple each of AKs, M16s, an FN and an M14.

"Good to see you again. Call me "Al", for Christ's sake! Kelsey, right? And Chris, if I'm not mistaken.

"Yeah, we heard a few big bangs. Everyone ok? Did you get Old Willie to Hospital?"

Kelsey grins amiably despite the long night.

"Yes, Kelsey.. Chief Al, right?  None of our team were hurt but a fellow we just met did not do as well, and whoever that gang was lost a few folks.  We do not play nice with gangs."

"Old Willie is at the hospital and recovery looks good, we are looking for his elephants, any leads?"

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 5):

Chief Al became excited and nodded. He was a middle-aged Native man with grey hair.

"Yeah! Now that you mention it, someone saw something strange about 15-20 kilometres down south of here towards the border. On 232nd street just north of 16 Ave.

"A couple of our people were checking out an auto yard out thataway. It's mostly farmland out there, but there are still tons of undeveloped lots with trees still on 'em.

"Anyways, there's like a big house off 232 street, on the, uh, west side. And the scrap yard is behind it. Trees all around it. They get stopped in front of the main house by a couple of guys with guns, assault rifles. Might have been Americans? Parked right next to the house was a tank. So these guys come out, tell our people to fuck off, and they do. I mean, someone's got a tank, you do what they say, eh? So they fuck off. But when they do they hear those missing elephants you're talking about, sounds like they are somewhere behind the house, where the scrap yard is.

"That about sounds like what you're lookin' for?"

Kel pulls out her map, and gets with Al to locate the place precisely.

"Sounds like the fellows who came to visit us tonight.  That track needs to go, frankly.  Americans and our elephants, hmm?"

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 7):

"Here you go. Right here. I think."

Go to the map link below. Find the intersection of 232 st and 16th ave. It's the 2nd driveway to the north on 232nd, on the west side.

"Thank you Chief Al, I will take this to the rest, it would be helpful if you can come.  This is a great help to us."

He is invited to come along if he wishes to tell his story, she wants Taras and others to hear about it first hand.

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 10):

Leaving his people in the parking lot, Chief Al agreed to accompany them and began heading up the path.

"So, we, like, heard a big boom. That woke everyone up on the Rez. Then there were some more bangs? What happened here?"

"Some bikers had a fatal encounter with physics, and sadly one roaming possibly decent sort had a similar fate.  Didn't stick to the plan."

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 12):

He thought about that for a moment.

"You know what happened to that Shane fellow? African-American? He did some security work with the local Native Warrior Society. Said he was going to help out Old Willie, look after the Fort while he was gone. And find his elephants." Although more of an Eastern concept before the war, particularly of militants from the Mohawk First Nations, "Warrior Societies" had sprung up across the country and formed the basis of various local self-defence groups, along with Indigenous RCMP detachments that already policed Reserves.

She sighs.

"He was the one that jumped the gun and.. sorry Chief Al, it is not likely he survived."
