Re: Celtic Shipyard

Ben waited outside the building near McRae, casually surveying the area. Although not in a firing position, he'd been careful to stand in cover - barrels and other cast-offs from the areas previous existance as a shipyard lay about, most stacked against building walls out of the way of heavy machinery.
Careful not to appear too threatening, he called inside to Lee and Fox.
"Anything interesting?"

Re: Celtic Shipyard

The front pair entered the door in the middle of the south wall, just past the SUV.

They quickly got clear of the "fatal funnel" (doorway).

As a rule in room or building-clearing, the whole team would enter at the "go" signal, alternating left and right and then covering assigned sectors. Stopping in the doorway was the cardinal sin.

However, this being something of a mixture of a dynamic entry and social call, how to proceed was a little unclear.

Lee and Fox entered, leaving the others waiting outside. Immediately inside, the entry element separated a few metres to the right and left (to avoid being taken down by a single burst), shining their flashlights around the cavernous interior.

Inside, the large building was largely empty. The concrete floor was bare except for bits of trash and a small aluminum boat upside-down and resting on saw-horses.

They quickly cleared the main room and reported "Clear!"

After determining there was no immediate threat inside the building on the ground floor, they lowered their weapons to "low ready" (both hands on weapon, fingers off trigger, muzzle pointed down at 45 degrees)

Off to the far right there was a narrow wooden stair leading up to a second-floor office that was the size of a couple of rooms.

There were no lights in the upstairs office windows that overlooked the work floor.

Fox speaks into his radio. "Bottom floor is one big room. Upstairs office would be better if cleared by more than two."

Fox nods to the staircase. He'll follow her up and wait near the door. If there are to clear it alone he'll follow her in with the standard clearing drills. If not, he wait for the backup.

Re: Celtic Shipyard

Lee creeps up the staircase, submachinegun pointed at the door ready in case of an unexpected opening. The illuminated circle of light on the door from her mounted flashlight grows smaller as she approaches. At the top she waits until Fox moves up and gets in position. Without turning around she waits for the expected pat on the back to verify his readiness. Once given, Lee swings the door open and rushes in heading for a corner and making her sweep. If she sees an armed threat she will shoot semi-automatic.

"Lets go," he spoke quietly to McRae, nodding back at the doorway.
"We'll keep a decent distance between the other two, say roughly ten metres?"
Ben hadn't had a lot of experience with FIBUA operations, expecially as part of the entry teams. As an officer, most of the actual entry work had been done by the enlisted with him in overall supervison. Even choices as to how to enter the selected buildings had been the province of his Sergeant and Corporals.

Re: Celtic Shipyard

LT Jagelis entered the building, wishing for the platoon or at least section that such operations normally required.

Ah well, needs must as the devil drives! he thought.

McRae entered as well, but kept an eye on the open door behind them. Lt. Jagelis checked the large empty open ground floor for threats, seeing none. He noted there was only one other door, presumably one to the outside on the east side (to the right). It was half-open. There was a couple of extensions on the east, a workshop and store-room by the looks of them, both with closed roll-up doors. There were other sliding doors in the other walls, also closed. None could be opened without making a lot of sound.

Above them they could see the other 2-person element climb the narrow stairs beside the door, then quietly go along the short balcony leading to the office door.

It was a tiny, cramped room up in the corner of the 2-story shed-like structure.

Fox tapped Lee on the shoulder to signal that he was ready.

At the "go" signal, Lee opened the door and immediately her tac-light illuminated two frightened children trying to hide behind a metal desk in the far corner!

Mentally noting no visible weapons, without breaking rhythm she completed her sweep. Fox was through behind her, doing the same but on the opposite side of the small wooden floor.

The two children continued to cower as the tac-lights swept back and forth, taking in the battered dust-covered furniture like two wheeled chairs, a desk with inoperative computer and telephone, coffee-maker, trash bin and three file cabinets with papers piled haphazardly on top. There were dusty windows that looked out over the floor and outside.

The radios crackled.

"Ahhh... Uniform 1-3 this is Uniform 1-5, over!"

She waited for Jagelis to acknowledge the transmission, then continued.

"1-3... ah, be advised you have one individual, possibly male, in-bound from Deering Island, approaching your position. Break. He's riding an Alpha Tango Victor. Can't, ah, tell if he's armed or not. Break. Echo Tango Alpha minus zero-fife Mikes("ETA 5 minutes or less") Break. Please advise, over."

Sure enough, they could hear a small 2-stroke engine rapidly approaching.

The 4-wheeled ATV (3-wheeled ATVs being banned as unsafe) was out of sight because of the buildings. The sound of its approach rose and fell as the rider negotiated the intervening distance.

The children were both boys, around 9-11 years old. They looked of native descent with longish dark hair. They were dressed normally (shoes, not-too-torn jeans, one dressed in a camouflage T-shirt with the other in a Spongebob Squarepants T-shirt).

They huddled behind the desk, watching Lee and Foz with considerable apprehension, but (thankfully) not stark terror.

"Clear." she says just loud enough for Robert to hear. Lowering her weapons until it hangs by its sling, she puts two hands together. "Hey fellas. We're good guys. Where's you boy's dad?"

Before they can answer she assures them, "You don't have to come out of there if you don't want to. You can just talk there if you'd like."

The one boy who looked a little older got ahold of himself and nodded.

"We know, we're supposed to listen to the police. I'm Terry and this is Paul."

"We live with our mom and dad over on the island. Our dad's there now. He's a fisherman!"

He looked embarrassed and bashful.

"We're... not supposed to be here. We come up here to play, some times. We saw you and, you know, we were curious. We wanted to see!"

The other one (wearing the Spongebob T-shirt) piped up, "can I touch your gun? It's really cool!"

"Yeah, can we touch it?"

"Yeah!" the older one, "Terry" replied, trying to be a big boy. His brother stood beside him, eyes fixed on the MP5 hanging from its tac-sling across her chest.

"He takes us fishing all the time. When we're not in school. He's going to take us out later, 'cos its Sunday."

"It's just us that live there on the island. There is a security man that lives here, but we sneaked by him."

"But my dad says we own this place, so its okay."

From her experience with the native population living in rural Alberta, Zhang guessed from this that the shipyard, like nearby Deering island, was probably located on tribal (Indian Reserve) land belonging to the nearby Musqueam First Nation.

"You go to school?" Fox asks. "How many classmates ya got?" Fox asks, not for small talk but to possibly get some idea of the population numbers around here.

After a moment, he looks at Lee. "We should get back to checking out the rest of the place. Maybe we should talk later." A few seconds later the radio report from the ship breaks over the air. "That too." he adds.

Looking back to the boys, he asks, "The security dude. He drive a quad? An ATV?"

The kid thought for a moment. "Ummmm... I got twenty class-mates? And Mrs. Lin. She's our teacher."

He nodded his head on the subject of ATVs. "Uh-huh... sometimes he lets us ride on it with him! They're cool! My dad does too!"

The other kid's eyes shift to Fox's C8A1.

"Hey Lieutenant," Andy says, having overheard the radio warning about the inbound ATV, "You want me back on the exterior door? If he's headed this way, I'd rather stop him in the open with his hands full of ATV than wait for him in here where he could start shootin' if he gets scared."

Truth is, Andy doesn't like CQB either and he'd rather confront the security man in an open space instead of in the dark confines of an unfamiliar building.

Re: Celtic Shipyard

The faint mosquito-buzz noise of the ATV's engine to the west continued growing, then dropped off after a few minutes.

After a pause there was the sound of more approaching vehicles, also to the west. A deeper sound than the ATVs, probably some kind of SUVs, not armoured vehicles or heavy trucks.

The rumbling engine sounds paused for a moment, then resumed bearing down on the team's direction.

Re: Celtic Shipyard

Not getting a response from Jagelis on her last transmission, Kelsey tried raising Fox.

"Ahhh... Uniform 1-6 this is Uniform 1-5, do you copy. I have Flash traffic. Over."

"Please relay to Uniform Actual that Alpha Tango Victor appears to have halted at a small building or structure, um, like a gatehouse by the west entrance. Break. The male, ah, went inside.... Wait one..."

"Ah, 1-5, be advised we have 2 additional Victors on approach from November (the north), say again, 2 Victors on approach from November. Break. Victor 1 (the vehicle in the lead) is Sierra Uniform Victor with RCMP markings, I spell: Romeo Charlie Mike Papa. Victor 2 is a jeep, Russian-type Uniform Alpha Zulu. Wait.

"Ah, they are stopping at the gate house. Several people are getting in, including the driver for Victor 2... Victor 1 is now inbound, your position."

OOC:

Flash traffic = a high priority message.

Uniform Actual = Officer Commanding, ie: Ben

Wait/Wait one = Still transmitting, please stand by.

Victor = Vehicles; Victor 1 is usually the leading vehicle, Victor 2 would be the following vehicle or next in line, etc.

Re: Celtic Shipyard

The situation was rapidly spiralling out of his control. The books didn't cover anything like this, clearing buildings with only four people while unloading your armour and the concurrent approach of people you had to meet.
"Ah," he began shakily. "Everyone fall back to the wharf and take up defensive positions."
"Uniform 1-1, you'd best make first contact. I think they're your people."

Glad to be escaping the oppressively close (for an airborne officer!) building, Ben nodded McRae out the door.
"Prop here for a moment while Lee and Fox catch up."
