Overwatch with Mutants & Masterminds 3E

Anyone interested in GMing an Overwatch-style game using the MM3e ruleset. I've been watching the animation shorts over and over on YouTube and I'd love to play in that world.

With that said, I've never played the actual game as I'm not really into first-person shooters or online multiplayer videogames. My interest lies solely in playing in a setting similar to that hinted at in the animation.

Overwatch with Mutants & Masterminds 3E

I'm 100% down to play a game like this. Mutants and masterminds could perfectly emulate the type of setting the OverWatch universe takes place in along with all of the weapons and gear and technology that comes with it.

That said, the next time there's a free weekend, I absolutely recommend you give the game a chance. I normally play turn-based RPGs but OverWatch look like such a good game so I gave it a chance and it's now one of my favorite games. I play for hours almost every day and ranking pretty high in competitive which is crazy to me because I started off with almost no ability to aim. There are even a few characters that have weapons that automatically aim for you if you're that bad at first person shooters.

Overwatch with Mutants & Masterminds 3E

Just to add something to the conversation:  I haven't been able to play OW myself much lately but one of the first thoughts I had upon seeing it was that the spirit of the game could easily be adapted to the Savage World Supers Companion using "Street" level heroes.  Reinhardt would for example could be a combination of Growth, Armor, Attack (Melee) and probably Speed with a Limitation on it (he can only burst in a limited manner via his rockets).  Get the Sweep Edge in there and you're golden.  I even thought of a way to do ultimates: a special Ultimate benny which could be traded in to activate a 15 point power.

I'm sure M&M around PL8 could do it too but I know WAAAAAY more about the mechanics and crunch of SW than Mutants and Masterminds.  Still it's a pretty diverse tool set, it could surely do it if the expertise was there.

It wouldn't be perfect but this could be done, the lore of the setting is just dense enough to make it work without the lore being so dense it's restrictive.  However, I think a lot of the FPS conventions would probably have to be abandoned; pen and paper doesn't account for hitscan vs. projectile for instance.

Overwatch with Mutants & Masterminds 3E

Vicedets, thanks for adding your interest in playing. Hopefully we can find a GM willing to run a game. Also, I'll take your advice and keep my eyes open for a free weekend to give the game a try.

Drewalt, thanks for the comments but as someone that hasn't played the videogame I'm not looking for a system to emulate the gameplay because, honestly, I have no clue how the game plays. The short animations caught my attention based on the world they hinted at and the conflicts the main characters found themselves facing.

I chose MM3e because I can easily create a superheroic character, slap an Overwatch patch on his sleeve, and send him out to infiltrate a Talon base or stop an Omnic assassination attempt without worrying too much about mechanics.

This wasn't meant to come across quite so crabby. Apologies. My point is simply my interest leans more toward story/setting and less toward system.

Overwatch with Mutants & Masterminds 3E

I know how Mutants and Masterminds work, but I'm a little iffy about GMing it. I might be willing to GM a small group of maybe 3 or 4 people if everybody is cool with me making mistakes here and there.
