Re: Exalted 2e + a non-level based fantasy game
As I said, I haven't had the opportunity to play many systems. I agree BESM, like HERO, is generic system that can be tailored to most any genre. My qualifier is that it isn't level based. I'm sure there are innumerous systems like this, but having only played a few, I drew parallels from what I knew.
I have had bad luck with M&M, TBH, but I'd be willing to give it another try, provided I can get (alot of) help with making my character.
Really, my hope is to have quick progression, a character learning skills and powers, gaining perks at frequent intervals. Not a lot, but something to keep the character growing. That's why I don't want a leveling system, but one where you can spend your XP/Char pts at irregular costs.
Theme-wise, I don't want something too challenging. If my character goes into every battle with chance to die, and every altercation with a chance to get incarcerated, I would be disappointed. I enjoy those types of games, but right now I just want something laid back and relaxed.
I'd like an activity that isn't too intensive, with players and a GM that are friendly and keen on working together. Mostly I just want to help create a narrative, with some dice mixed in to create some random elements of the characters and the story.
Like many stories that are in books and movies, the main characters don't often die. They have struggles, make sacrifices, and lose something on the journey. Maybe there's some tragedy and strife. The main characters in these books don't end up stagnant or dead though. The story follows them and their adventures.
I hope that makes sense. Maybe that's TMI, but I often find giving too much is better than not giving enough.
