Progression Based Freeform

Hey there!

In the past I haven't played much freeform, but after joining a game (Which sadly didn't get off the ground. A freeform game called Theogenesis, if anyone is game for running something like that even better!)

Not Entirely Freeform Freeform: I've had the itch to give it another go. With that said, I'd still like some measure of progression to the game, I can't entirely give up my systems roots, but something as simple as Joe has strength 3, he's stronger than Bill with strength 2. No dice rolling needed, just some vague measure. Also with that said, it would be nice if skills followed a similar measuring system and that and if they could be raised incrementally (Ex: Joe spent the day carving clay figures and imbuing them with life +5% Golem Craft)

As RPOL games can also move notoriously slow, it would also be nice if the GM was pretty liberal in providing advancement and also provided multiple avenues of advancement.

Setting: I'll be down for pretty much anything fantasy/magical. I've been on a bit of a "Real world suddenly has magic introduced, what happens now?" kick, but that's hardly required. Pretty much as long as I get to player a competent character in a world that's more fantastical than our own I'll be content. Whether it's sandbox or plot based is up to the GM!

TLDR: Seeking free-form game that has a clear sense of progression, fairly frequent rewards (Big and small), and is fantasy based.

Anyone interested in something along these lines?

I don't have a game to offer you, but by way of advice, I think it would behoove you to look into a game called Urban Shadows. It's a political urban fantasy game with a system that's one of the many so-called 'Powered by the Apocalypse' games. It's very close to freeform, with dice sort of guiding and driving the narrative.

And advancement is pretty quick.

Sure, this seems right up my alley. If you give me two weeks I can have guidelines for stats and skills that will be tier based (higher figures are better than lower figures) and then special abilities (which can be added to) like flight, teleportation or even monster summoning.

It will still be largely freeform leaving conflict to player description, ingenuity, and daring. Stats and Skills will help offset ambiguity though. Stats will probably have three with each having (optionally) 3 subsets. Players can spend roughly 50 points to make their character. We can do open bidding or silent bidding. Ideally everyone would just pick their own niche and not overlap too much though.

Sounds perfect, let me know when you've got something brewed up! I'd also be happy to serve as a sounding board for ideas while you put things together.

While I think V_V is still in the process of putting together something along these lines, I'd still be interested if another GM were willing to run a freeform game with a progression based feel!

Realized this didn't actually bump last time. Would still be interested in a game of this sort! Fast paced, lots of rewards/results/meaningful results. Any GMs out there willing to run such a thing?

Playtesting is opening for a system I'm making. The goal is to have a Basic Version and an Advanced Version. I'd appreciate your input to see how close the Basic version comes to being freeform.

Minor RL disaster delayed the process. If you or anyone else would like to see what I have so far please RTJ.

Concept (the important part!) still needs some work.

Bumping this as V_V may be busy with other responsibilities.

Anyone up for running such a freeform game with these sorts of themes?

Last attempt at bumping, V_V has bowed out.

Again, open to most concepts, just want a freeform game where stuff actually happens and players have an impact!

I actually just started a freeform superhero game! You're welcome to check it out, I already have 5 players and counting. Most will be in New York, which has been devastated by a vicious attack by a supervillain, and their actions will influence the world's perception of supered individuals.
