FATE Fantasy

Hello! I'm looking to play a FATE-based game in a fantasy setting. Specifically, I'm curious to see how being a sword-mage would work in FATE, but I'm flexible on character concept.

Things I am looking for:

1. Reasonably crisp posting rate--something like every other day or so would be nice.
2. More action-adventure based stories with whatever degree
3. (Optional) Some world-building contribution by the players, though it doesn't have to be all-in style.
4. Some reasonable commitment (like 3-6 months at least) to running the game.

Things I'm not looking for:
1. A heavy writing game. I am more of a "post more frequently with a paragraph or two at a time" type player than an author waiting for a palate.
2. Lots of house rules. I am looking to try FATE (any recent edition) not work around it.
3. Someone who is going to stop running as soon as you get bored.

If you're running something that would fit and have room for one more, or if you're open to running something, pleas respond or (even better) send me an rMail.

FATE Fantasy

I'd be up for this as well, with mostly the same parameters. Every other day is a more realistic posting expectation for me.

FATE Fantasy

I would play, but I can't promise more than twice a week, and my character idea is really weird.

Re: FATE Fantasy

I might be interested in running this. I've read fate and played in a few small games. What type on Fantasy are you guys thinking?

Whats the big bad in the story? Whats the world look like?>

Re: FATE Fantasy

My personal preference is for something really pretty classic fantasy--a Greyhawk, Faerun or Golarion, personally. I'm all for classic "find a mission and save the village/country/world" mid- to high-fantasy. The shape of it is entirely up to you.

I also prefer playing humans, so nothing too "fuzzy."

Re: FATE Fantasy

In reply to cooneydad (msg # 13):

So by fuzzy are we assuming basic races such as Dwarves, Elves, etc.

Against things like Orcs, Goblins, Dragons, Giants.

So eliminating things like

Dragon-kin, Golems, Animal races.

Am I getting the gist right? I've never really read Greyhawk so I am not sure what the world feels like but what you are describing is classic fantasy.

Re: FATE Fantasy

As another side note. If I have to run it I believe I am going to go with Core Fate. I don't see using AE. While I like it, I feel like there needs to be more grit.

Yes, that's pretty much what I had in mind yes.

That's completely fine. I am flexible. I have both rulebooks and am willing to learn. I mostly want to see what the flexibility of FATE gives you in a fantasy context versus some of the "nitty-gritty" systems.

Re: FATE Fantasy

I'm interested, if it's Fate Core.

I did "D&D, but with Fate" once before and it didn't impress me for the short time it lasted. I think my problem was setting it up like D&D, instead of like Fate. Combat between the two is quite different, as is the overall mindset. In D&D spending resources and getting into trouble are often taken to mean one wasn't being clever enough or that someone is screwing around, whereas in Fate spending resources and getting into trouble are assumed to be on everyone's agenda.

I'd want everyone to be on the same page, and I'd want that page to be out of Fate Core, even if the setting and situations are highly D&D-like.

Re: FATE Fantasy

I am keeping the rules pretty vanilla in terms of changes although I feel like most rules will make the cut so expect that yes, world building will be a part of the game. I am making a very basic skeleton of the world and from there, players can adjust locations, people, cities, etc.

There will be a few places that are hard written into the story just for consistency and everything else will be open to changes from the players.

Re: FATE Fantasy

Alright, boys and girls.

The game is open just to the people in this thread. After a few days, I will open to the public to fill holes in the group. Looks like a lot of people are interested so I expect that it will fill fast.
