Unearthly Rites [ADULT] - Call of Cthulhu 7e

One: A Midsummer Night's Terror

She had awoken once again in a cold sweat. Half remembered images slowly slipping away from her mind. Cold hands, peircing eyes. She didn't want to remember but she didn't want to forget either. She walked to the window, looked out into the distance at the edge of the forest. A pale, ghostly light flitted through the trees and indistinct whispering filled her head.

She didn't remember leaving the house but here she was, following the etheral wisp as it led her barefoot through the dark earth, branches occasionally snagging her nightdress. That indistinct whispering now clearer. Many voices whispering "Follow us! Follow us!"

The smell of the forest was heady and musky. It overpowered her senses. Then she heard the piping. A strange, alien, discordant tune that she heard and felt through her whole body. Her step lightened and she began to move rhymically to the sound, as though her mind and body were seperate. She reached the clearing and there it was, its cloven hooves stamping the earth in tune to the oddly shaped pipe it held in it's mouth with unusually long clawed hands. Its grotesque face leared at her as it played and she danced for it under the sikeningly grey light of an overly gibbous moon.

The music stopped. She stood before it, smiling, shivering in the cool night air. She removed her nightdress as it reached for her...

Unearthly rites is a home brew campaign setting for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. It will be set in present day and the initial setting for the game will be the fictional town of Black Oak, In Cornwall, England, quite close to Bodmin Moor. There has been the murder of several young girls and the investigators will be conducting an investigation into a coven of black witches. I intend the investigators to be led further afield than this, possibly to Japan.

I'm currently looking for contributors to the setting and plot of this game. If you wish to contribute please send an rtj using the information from the rtj thread (link to a message in another game) and state that you wish to contribute along with any ideas you have. If you wish to co-gm then please also state this along with details of any GMing experience you have.

I am looking for people with a good deal of knowledge of the culture of modern Japan. If you are Japanese or have lived there a long time then I'd love to hear from you. I would like to set some of this game in Japan but do not wish to fall into cultural stereotyping or offend anyone from Japan.

Knowledge of the Call of Cthulhu rules is not necessary as plenty of guidance will be given and actual character stats will be created after rtj acceptance and worked through with The Keeper. However, I do suggest you read up on the Cthulhu Mythos before requesting to join this game so you know what you are getting yourself into. You can start by looking at the works of the founder of the mythos and undisputed master of horror H.P.Lovecraft:-

Unearthly Rites [ADULT] - Call of Cthulhu 7e
Since the start of the year I am finding I have less time than before.

I need a co-gm to help me run this game and pick up the slack.

This is quite an ambitious game with two relatively large groups (For COC) undertaking two simultaneous investigations in Japan and the UK respectively.

I need a co-gm who is:-

1. A dedicated Call of Cthulhu fan and has experience running these sorts of games.

2. Is willing to play an ACTIVE roll in running pcs (I intend to make one or two GMPCS under my control) and in delveloping the plot.

3. Will stick around for the long term.

4. Can provide some level of authenticity to the Japanese setting.

The last bit is crucial. I have a great respect for Japanese culture but my knowledge due to a life that basically sucks up most of my time and energy I lack the time and resources to properly understand the people and culture.

We have quite a few players who have a good degree of cultural knowledge and one of the players is Japanese themselves so this is more a request to do the best you can to maimtain respect for the country and culture with guidance from the players.

Pleae rmail me if intetested. I want this game to work so I am going to be picky and find the right person for this one. But I could use help sooner rather than later.
