D&D 3.5 lvl 20 game for...wait! Don't go away! Just read me!

Hello everyone. Happy New Year. I made a new year resolution and this post fulfills it.
I am looking for a game where the gods, good and evil, have to send their last hope, their least prepared champion in a mission to rescue their best men so they can save the universe. That is right, the wizard, clerics, archivist and other Tier 1 and 2 champions have been killed or imprisioned. In fact, most of the other tiers too. Still only a fistful of champions still exist and their gods slap their faces when they see them. Their last warriors are just a bad joke.

The players can only choose between these classes:
Paladin 20 (Religious Paladin)
Ranger 20 (Nature Paladin)
Hexblade 20 (Arcane Paladin)
Crusader 20 (Initiator Paladin)
Soulborn 20 (Incarnum Paladin)
Divine Mind 20 (Psionic Paladin)
Sohei 20 (Oriental Adventures Paladin)

The theme is paladins and classes like them that receive special permission from their gods to work with their formers enemies. Notice the "20". There will be no prestige classes, no 9th level spells, and no LA races. Lesser aasimars or tieflings shouldn't be allowed either.

I am interested in playing as an hexblade. I know people that are interested in the divine mind and the soulborn. This is an excellent opportunity for other players to experience classes that are afraid to choose because they believe they will be render useless by the wizards and other tier 1 classes. It is also an opportunity for DMs to venture into high levels games without the need to prepare your monsters and enemies for 9th level spells.

For this to happen I ask that all books shall be available. Even Dragon magazines (I want to choose the hex feats).

Well, hope to read from you soon!

I would be interested in playing in this. Specifically as a Sohei.

Perfect! One has to be brave to choose being a Sohei!
Another reason to allow Dragon Magazines as it receives an update in Dragon 318.

A chance to play a pure level 20 Crusader? I'd give it a shot.

also would you consider a level 20 Knight instead of Paladin? I'm good either way but I had been wanting to play a Knight for awhile, glad to go Paladin tho if your vision is better served that way

You should include the Healer (from the Miniatures Handbook).

And we have a crusader!

Gamer75, having a knight is not what I am thinking. The idea is to have a group of people with the same chasis as opposed to the variety you can find in other games.
In this particular case, the chasis of the paladin is:
Good BAB
Devotion to a god or church.
Minor spells gained NOT at first level
All the classes that I mentioned share at least two traits. Knights have good BAB but their devotion is to their Code, not to a deity directly.

The Healer is even worst, as its BAB is poor, in contrast with the medium BAB of the Divine Mind or the Sohei. And it has 9th level spells.

A friend told me about this idea that was born chatting in a game he was playing. And I immediately wanted to play it, because of the challenge. I am not accoustomed to play with good BAB classes and I usually don't trust paladins but an experience in a game here in RPOL made me decide to give them another chance. But most of all I wanted the challenge of not having all the pieces of the puzzle. For example, healer. We won't have a dedicated healer unless the paladin follows a very specific build (Harmonious Knight and Divine Spirit) and even then, it won't be at the level of the Healer or Cleric. We will not have a skillmonkey unless the ranger also follows a very strict builld (Trap Expert, Skilled City Dweller, possibly with Sword of the Arcane Order to drop Wis and focus on Int).
And yes, I expect others to refrain from taking Leadership so they can bring a full arcane caster or a cleric with Lvl 9 spells.

I guess it will be a very difficult game. But I think that that difficulty is what it would make it worthwhile. Yes, we are 20th level, but are we up to 20th level challenges?

I was just answering! LOL

Nop, we don't have a DM yet. It is to be expected. There are few people that want/have the time to GM a 20th level game. But we have found someone willing to play a Sohei, so we must still have hope!

Time for bumping this. We have brave people that are up to the challenge of playing a straight 20 Paladin, Sohei, Hexblade, Crusader, Divine Mind and Soulborn.

We only need a Ranger 20 and a brave DM to be complete! In fact we only need the DM!

In reply to BrisNoc (msg # 12):

I have a build for Dr. Doom. https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1442057

I'm DYING to play it. I don't think it's too OP. I'd even be willing to be in a PVP scenario. I just.... really want to play this build out since I'm a huge Doom fan.

Tomokun, I am sure you will find a home for your build elsewhere. Pleae read the first post.

Jkeogh, welcome to the party of people hoping to find a DM! With a ranger, all of our options are fully covered. Not that other players can't join, but I really wanted that at least a representative of each class was present.

I would like to put a tentative YES on me running this. As you know (from Moria) I have interest is high level games and TBH 99% of my trouble comes from 9th spells, and constant detection (though things like detect evil are fine, and never were problem).

I can't guarantee a long campaign, but I can tell you, you remove (for me) the only hesitation point (which takes RL hours and days to weeks) when making an adventure. No Wish, no Miracle, no this and that high level buff. You all will be (should be) comparable.

Here are the concessions I want from anyone who would join, especially you, OP.
  1. Be willing to accept faster leveling progression. If you don't want want to level when the XP says you should, you can play "as is" from the level you have written, but know the adventure is scaled for multiple levels, and as you lag behind you may feel it.
  2. I don't know half of the classes. If I say "You can't do that" correct me, gently and calmly, and tell why you can. This game is to make playable what I believe are overlooked classes, and let you have fun with them. You are the champion, I don't want to limit you, unfairly. On the flip side, if something is ambiguous, and not explicit, let my ruling be accepted and play on. That said, DO correct me, do debate your point, up until I say it's done. I need everyone to be willing to challenge my mistakes. I do make them and need help sometimes. Especially when there are classes I don't know. Okay?
  3. No spell activation items, even with UMD, unless every participant (GM and players) agree, or your class has it on their "list".
  4. Moral codes are overridden. The LG goods are willing to accept CE gods tactics if it means the world doesn't fall to Tharizdun. Whom is now a Great God. So no moral fighting, and snubbing. PLAY nice! Be wise, have fun. :)
  5. The idea is short term, to reseal the Mad God into his prison, and that after that concept is done, there may be no more.
  6. When you become epic which DEFINITELY will happen, you have to use epic progression or BASE epic PrC. We'll discuss that then too. The Immortal Handbook will be used when that happens as well. It supplements the ELH well, and epic complete books well.
  7. Creature exist that have 9th level spells. Especially outsiders. I will err on the side of ease when considering threats, since you have...um....I guess no "tier 1 or 2" I don't consider tiers normally, TBH *shrugs*
  8. Three strikes you're out. The Gods allow for three escapes from certain end. That's it. If you have the power to reverse it, then that doesn't count as strike. Otherwise it does.
  9. Artifacts will most likely not really show up, but if they do, they may be considered communal, or only in your possession to destroy.
  10. From the time you are accepted, you have two weeks to make your sheetand have it approved.
  11. Sheets are largely public knowledge. I need help checking and keeping tabs. So this is non-negotiable. Sorry...:(

If this is all acceptable...then I can have the game up and ready as early as February 1st. You'll have adventure, you'll have combat, some puzzles, some romance (or strife) and some humor. Mostly, you'll have a chance, to play one of the OP classes. Edit: OP in this case=Opening Post, not overpowered. I just caught that. :s

You're welcome to Rmail me with questions. I might not check this thread, so poke me in Rmail if I lose track. Until late January I'm pretty preoccupied. So...yeah. :D

Ok, V_V Couldn't start the game. That means the slot for GM is now vacant! Come and have a good time with us! We don't even have 7th level spells, so you don't need to create very powerful monsters or characters for our 20th level characters!

In Pathfinder there are no Divine Minds, Sohei, Soulborns or Crusaders. Also, you allow all classes, like clerics or wizards.

Thanks, but I am seeking something different.
