Open World GURPS Fantasy
Here's what I'm after:
* Not Dungeon Fantasy. There may be dungeons involved, but I want the full GURPS experience - downtime, upkeep, jobs, cost of living, the works.
* 150-200 points.
* 2-3+ times/week posting rate.
* Using GURPS Magic at least, Low Tech and Martial Arts preferred. Nonstandard magic would be great - path/book, sorcery, what have you.
* Group of PCs as owners of an "adventuring company" charter, giving them legal right to plunder ancient tombs, set up trade routes, act as mercenaries, own land, etc, as long as the local lord gets their cut.
* PCs should be in charge of their own destinies; if they want to go play pirate, they go play pirate. If they want to play at being merchants, they're merchants. If they want to use the ship to go from port to port looking for dungeons, they should do that. If they want to explore the world and circumnavigate the globe, discovering new lands, they should be able to do that. Or they could establish a frontier town. Or take a contract providing security for a border camp. Or some combination thereof. Whatever.
* GM's job is to prepare the world for them to explore. Cultures, technology, magical artifacts, potential dungeon crawls, the rise of evil overlords, whatever. Not so much define how the players interact with it. Maybe hide cool things for them to run across, explore, exploit, exterminate, or ignore as they see fit. Provide opportunities for adventure, let the PCs decide how the adventure plays out.
* Specifically, allow for non-combat resolutions. Make combat deadly, scary, something maybe as a last resort because even if you win, you lose.
* Recruit for characters with strong personal drives, rather than players who will sit around waiting for plot hooks. Let the players drive. Force them to.
* Unique settings preferred, but you know best what you have time for. Use Yrth, Oerth, Faerun, Athas, Ravenloft, Glorantha... whatever, but put your own twist on it. Subvert our expectations.
