Wuxia meets Pathfinder (Gestalt 16th+)

I've been watching a number of 'wuxia' flicks and have a concept I'd like to make a character for (think: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets AMC's Into the Badlands).

I'm looking to replicate the feel of an epic blend of martial arts and supernatural powers/spell-like abilities.  That being said, I'm not interested in players having access to caster classes, unless the bulk of their casting is self-buffing (read: fly spell good fireball bad); though would be open to someone playing a healer type with amazing abilities of self-healing and healing his allies (ie: a charisma based Oracle with the Life Mystery).  Though, I'm also all for magic items.  So Staffs, rods and wands that do non-buffing stuff is ok, as are most (if not all weapons, armor, rings, wonderous items, etc.)

I'd like a balance of politics/intrigue/subterfuge with epic martial combat (Qinggong/Neigong)...character's should individually be able to mow through an army of commoners and low level soldiers...and be able to have the opportunity to experience that in game...but also, face a BBEG(s) and his/her/their powerful minions.  Structurally, I'm not opposed to a somewhat 'Kung-Fu Panda' set up (In the jianghu, martial artists are expected to be loyal to their master (sifu). This gives rise to the formation of several complex trees of master-apprentice relations as well as the various sects such as Shaolin and Wudang. If there are any disputes between fighters, they will choose the honourable way of settling their issues through fighting in duels.)

For character creation I'd like human to be the base race, but using the race building system to create 'enhanced' humans with skills and abilities that can only be defined as supernatural/superhuman (25 RP). I'd also like to limit the material used to anything that can be referenced through d20pfsrd (though nothing specifically labelled as 3rd party) and on the 'Archives of Nethys'.  I'd like attributes to use the rules for generating heroic character stats (Heroic: Roll 2d6 and add 6 to the sum of the dice. Record this total and repeat the process until six numbers are generated.  Assign these totals to your ability scores as you see fit.) Also looking for the use of minor (2 max) and major (1 max) drawbacks.

To prevent rampant level dipping, I'd like to limit builds to having all one class down ones side of the gestalt build and, at max down the other side, 2 classes and 1 PrC).

I'm planning on playing an Unchained Rogue//Zen Archer Monk (with possibly three levels of another class and a couple levels of a PrC...haven't completely decided yet).

I'd like to limit this to 3-6 players (at the GM's discretion).  A thought I had, if 6 players, would be that each would utilize one primary attribute and be the embodiment of that attribute.  My character (for this concept) would be the embodiment of wisdom.

Note: any reference to wuxia within the concept can be found in the wikipedia article on wuxia.  I used it as a reference simply because it is accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

Here is a link to the wiki file on 'Into the Badlands'.  Sort of a mash up of steampunk, wuxia, and hollywood, all rapped up into one package.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._Badlands_(TV_series)

From the wiki file on the subject of 'Into the Badlands':
The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world approximately 500 years after a war that left civilization in ruins. Many elements of technology, such as electricity and ground vehicles, have survived the apocalypse but society now shuns guns, leading to a reliance on melee weaponry and cross-bows.

Wuxia meets Pathfinder (Gestalt 16th+)

i think this would be fun...i know you put a limit on caster classes....but I had an idea if you will entertain it.

wizard with access to ONLY illusion school...not universal...not divination...ONLY illusion.

barring that...the healer of the party is a niche i would enjoy as well.

In reply to jess_car_fix (msg # 10):

I think I could be alright with just illusion spells.

it's intended as a gestalt game...so perhaps a healer up one side and access to illusion spells on the other...though you may have a concept that would require both sides dedicated to illusion casting?

Hopefully he'd have a bit more versatility than just able to cast illusion spells (though, to be fair, I'm not well versed in casting classes and thus spells, so perhaps it would be quite versatile on its own?)

Wuxia meets Pathfinder (Gestalt 16th+)

Sardis, et al, would it be a deal-breaker for you if the Request was tweaked to ...

...any Race with the humanoid subtype with a RP 20 or less?
...maximum starting of Gestalt 16th ?
...and any spellcasting classes allowed BUT at least 1/2 of their Gestalt must be Monk (or PrC Monk category) ?

Wuxia meets Pathfinder (Gestalt 16th+)

In reply to NorthernOkie (msg # 14):

If that still means:

1.  I can use the 'Pathfinder Race Builder' to create my character's race (ensuring that it possesses the humanoid subtype and no more than 20 RP).

2.  is 16th level (no more = your request; no less = my request)

3.  1 side of a spellcaster's gestalt build must be monk and/or a monk based PrC)

Then I can definitely accept those terms :)

NorthernOkie?

Were you offering to GM? If you are offering to GM, the request changes you propose are acceptable...if you are just looking to play then no.

Given the lack of a response...

Still looking for a GM...many interested in playing.

Re: Wuxia meets Pathfinder (Gestalt 16th+)

I am filled with memories of Wuxia movies of old, wherein warrior monks could do any magic wite-fu shenanigannery while still contemplating the mysteries of the universe in a way which somehow let them actually manipulate it... either that or Big Trouble in Little China. Not familiar with the notes on how Gestalt would work. Would you be thinking lvl16 (class 1)/ lvl 16 (class 2)? Or 8/8 (for a ‘total’ of 16?)
