Mercenary or Military Pathfinder

Basically I’d be interested in a pathfinder game where the players were mercenaries or members of a military force. Sort of like Berserk meets pathfinder. So I don’t want it to be only combat or anything like that but the theme would be military engagements and fighting for a cause instead of general adventuring and loot collection. In terms of magic and setting etc, I’m not all that fussed, it could be something custom or even standard Golarion. I just want to play in a pathfinder game where the morality isn’t quite so black and white and the players fight because it is there job instead of hunting the monsters to save a village(though I’m sure a mercenary group might do that if the pay was right etc, but I think you can understand what I mean). Plus a game that runs war on a larger scale would be interesting.

I might be able to run this. I'd need some time to set it up though.

Edit: In your mind, are the players like special forces-types (which explains why they have the heroic levels that common soldiers dont, etc) or just frontline troops. Personally, I find that the former works better, but I'm open. I would run it in Golarion, PCs would be in the employ of one of the major powers of the Inner Sea (likely Cheliax or Taldor, maybe Andoran).

I could also just run the Ironfang Invasion adventure path, where PCs form a militia to fight a guerrilla war against Hobgoblins

I was thinking that they would be special forces-esque. I’m thinking kind of movie soldiers (main and supporting cast) as opposed to the rank and file extras. Plus by making them an elite unit, it would allow for more character variety. If we were just the rank and file, I’d imagine it would primarily just be a bunch of fighters, but I’d like to see some character variety and I’d think that a more elite kind of specia forces unit makes that easier to explain. As for nations, Cheliax could be fun for a more evil aligned military campaign with some Hell knight wannabes or Andorrans could equally be fun from a people’s militia turned professional soldiers kind of vibe.

As for the AP I have never heard of it before but that could be equally fun. I don’t really mind how it is done really, I just want a campaign where the enemy is less evil necromancer and is more military force.

I was just glancing through the APs to see if any would work. It seems Ironfang Invasion is more common citizens turned people's militia. It would be less "Saving Private Ryan" and more "Red Dawn"

There's also apparently an AP where the players work in the employ of Cheliax to stop an invasion of Iomedean knights, for a more evil bend. I'll throw up an IC thread to see which has more interest

this is actually a big chunk of the adventure paths put out.

in order and a bit of a summary they are as follows

jade regent: the heroes take the only heir to an empire back to claim the throne

Skull and Shackels: the heroes beat down the cheliax navy and tak eover the pirates kingdoms

Wrath of the Rightoeus: Heroes become EXALTED ( more than just good) take part in the final mendev crusade and kick the face of a demon lord in

Mummy's mask: heroes are state sponsored ruin delvers then have to beat down an old ruler who is now a lich

Hell rebels/Hells vengeance: In the former the heroes are trying to push back cheliax on a free state, the latter they are villans who are tightenin the chelaxian grip on what remains.

Iron Fang Invasion:
Basically its red hand of doom turned to 11.

War for the Crown: I honestly have no idea what this one is about, BUT I assume it is pretty merc based as well but like you ask, its more fighting for a cause that thar be loots.

But, I have to add. That every AP does involve go into dungeon kill the guys and take their stuffs'

In reply to ricosuave (msg # 7):

I don't have war for the crown yet, but from the looks of it, it's about a civil war in Taldor, which would probably work for this. At the moment I'm leaning towards Ironfang Invasion. The players guides are free online online if y'all want to peruse!

Another option would be a campaign of my own, though I'd need some time to set that up and I'm about to start my next semester of college soon.
