Calling the Ghostbusters

Hey! I have an itch for some cheerfully spooky ghost hunting adventures set in the Ghostbusters universe. Been playing Spirits Unleashed, finally got to see Afterlife, and the mood has struck me. Also I've never actually played one before, only run one.

I don't have much preference for details beyond a Ghostbusters game set in modern anywhere. There are a lot of good game systems around, and while I am very interested in the franchise-building minigame of InSpectres, I think that one gives players a little too much narrative control for a forum game. I've got the original WEG D6 game in both editions, and would prefer the mechanics of the original if we go with that. Haven't yet scrounged up the spare change to pick up Spooktacular, the retroclone of it, but I've seen the SRD and it's very close.

I've also picked up Savage Ghostbusters and wouldn't mind taking that for a spin. It's a little rules-heavy for my liking, which should tell you about my usual preferences. Fate Accelerated could also work well, and I'm super familiar with it.

Anyone wanna start a business? :D

I hadn't realized there was a published Savage Ghostbusters supplement (even unofficial), though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised; I had drawn something up on my own for Savage Worlds a few years ago, but, looking at the document, it's still unfinished (although I did do the basic rules for ghosts and characters). One thing I'd love to try out is adapt Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed. to a Ghostbusters setting (based loosely on its recent Pulp Cthulhu supplement), replacing the Sanity stat with Cool and creating rules for the various types of spirits the team would encounter. (That's still in the contemplative state, but on my mind.)

That said, I don't think I can run a game, but I'd love to participate if someone else gets the GM-ing bug for it.

I have Ghostbusters International, InSpectres, Spooktacular, and both flavors of Spirits Of Manhattan. Not entirely sure how to handle the comedic pacing in play-by-post versus a face-to-face game.

I actually might start the game myself using Fate. Been piecing a few things together, starting with a plot. If you're interested, I can RMail you when I've got something ready, along with a post in Players Wanted.

In reply to Nintaku (msg # 4):

You might look at Kaiju Incorporated as a possible starting point for a FATE game.

I've actually been looking hardest at Atomic Robo, for its Skill Modes, Brainstorming, and Invention rules. Not suuuper happy with what I've got put together, but it seems functional enough and very workshoppable once I get more eyes on it. I'll shoot you both an RMail in a little bit.
