Dune: Adventures in the Imperium

Anyone interested in running a Dune: Adventures in the Imperium from Modiphius as a play-by-post?

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium

There are two main routes I see for a potential Dune game. The first is to use the published material, most of which revolves around Arrakis. Agents Of Dune and Masters Of Dune would form the basis of the game. The second is to create an original House, and define their unique conflicts within the setting. I have ideas for such a game based on Roman-era Judaea. There is a wealth of information on which to base the history of a House and a campaign detailing its struggles. The Herodian and Hasmonean dynasties would serve as the basis for our House, much as ancient kings Agamemnon and Menelaus served as the basis for House Atreides. Thoughts?

I'm not opposed to playing a non-Arrakis-based game, as long as the feel remains firmly rooted in Dune. If not being set on Arrakis, I'd like to see plot elements not overpresent in the series, like time aboard heighliners, travel to other planets for plot purposes, maybe some Guild Navigator or Bene Tleilax interactions, that kind of thing. Would that work with your ideas?

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium

Yeah, as long as we have Imperial intrigue, grand House machinations, strange and unsettling technology and cultures, a Dune game could be fun, even if not set on Arrakis.

An original House would be a creative and engaging endeavor I think. Though I would ask exactly what aspects of the Herodian and Hasmonean dynasties you mean? The fact that they were vassal states?

In reply to Rogue Leader (msg # 5):

We'd certainly need to adjust depending on the era in which we choose to set the game, but most elements are present in all save the earliest and latest. The period between Schools Of Dune and the Caladan Trilogy offers the greatest flexibility.

In reply to DJ-Anarchy (msg # 6):

The Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucids resulted in a period of Jewish independence, until the Romans intervened in a succession crisis and brought Hasmonean rule to an end. In Dune terms, the Seleucids were one Emperor and the Romans another. The Herodians would rule for half-again as long as the Hasmoneans, plagued all the while by internal conflict that ultimately led to Herod The Great executing his two oldest sons. When you take into account the intrigues surrounding the Herodian Tetrachy and outright revolts of the Jewish-Roman Wars, there's all sorts of potential here.

It sounds like you've got ideas. :) If you're interested in running it, I'm interested in playing! As an FYI, I've read the first three of Herbert's original Dune series, the Butlerian Jihad prequel book, and part of Dune: House Atreides, but am happy to dive into the prequel timelines online for any needed depth if you think it'll help, or leave it alone if it's not going to enhance play.

We shall see if there is any more interest. I think four players would be the ideal.
