Send a PM to Palpatine, and all PCs start at SWSEC standard - read the character creation thread for details.

Re: General OOC

Mandalorians, or as the people refer to themselves, Mando'a, are a culture unto themselves, discriminating against neither race or sex, as long as you follow the basic code of the Mando.  You must speak the language, care and provide for your family, and show up whenever the leader of the culture, Mandalore himself, calls.

Mandalorians are compulsive adopters, and as such, their population is constantly in flux.  Originally, there were not even human, though the original species of Mando isn't quite certain.  Their armor has changed through the millenia, but for the most part, the T-shaped visor has been their defining aspect for nearly as long as they have been known to the Republic.

During the time of KotR, the Mandalorians had just been beaten back by the Jedi Revan and his followers, after waging a war against the Republic the likes of which they had never seen.  The Mando'a were daring, decisive, and showed no mercy for those who would not fight.  In the Mando culture, refusal to fight is the ultimate weakness, surpassed only by those who abandon their families or the culture in times of need.

By the Rise of the Empire, the Mando'a were scattered too and fro, and most assumed they were extinct or nearly there, much like the Ryn.  Boba Fett was the most famous, but there were others of note, including Jaster Mereel and Jodo Kast.

In the New Republic, the Mandalorians, for the most part, were still sprinkled across the galaxy, fighting for credits, fighting for survival, and fighting for themselves.  However, at the invasion of the Yuzzhan Vong, the man who bore the mantle of Mandalore, Fenn Shysa, called upon the people to return to the planet who bore the name of their people, and gather in force to help the New Republic drive the alien invaders back to where they came.  Fenn Shysa was later killed, and he passed the title on to Boba Fett, who is probably the most controversial Mandalore in his people's history.

When Jacen Solo started his bid to rule the Galaxy as another Emperor, Boba Fett made another call to the Mando'a, and they once again gathered on a planet that had been ravaged by the Vong.  Unfortunately for the rest of the galaxy, the destruction rained upon their planet has revealed a new, massive vein of the Mandalorian steel, known as beskar.  And MandalMotors, the primary manufacturing company on Mandalore, has started manufacturing fighters, both for home use and abroad.  These new fighters are called Bes'uliik, in the tradition of the old Basilisk War Droids, and they are every bit as lethal as the originals.

And this concludes Mando'a 101.  Hope it helped.

Re: General OOC

Just a reminder for all interested parties that applications for the Mandalorian Gamble are still open, and will be until 21:00, GMT +1 (6 hours, 30 minutes from now, just about).  Anyone interested in sending in an application, please include a basic character concept (including species, class(es), particular talents/feats important for your build, as well as what direction you want to take the character in), as well as a brief (no more than three paragraphs, please!) background.

And, as a 'teaser', here is the opening post of the campaign:

GM Palpatine:
As the small group was led into the hangar bay aboard the starship Imperius, one of the largest vessels in the Republic fleet, they caught a glance out the windows.  Down below was the world Taris, currently held by the Mandalorians, who were holding firm ground against the Republic's effort to beat them back.  Now, however, was one of the quieter moments the war had seen - the Republic fleet was holding back, and the Mandalorians were seizing the moment to regroup and prepare for the next battle.  Few of the soldiers on either side knew what had caused this break, but most were glad for it.

Meanwhile, the group entered the hangar bay in the Imperius, where the least military-looking ship they could think of met them - it was a freighter of some kind, but could more accurately be described as a rust-bucket, and it's lack of any kind of visible weaponry made it clear that it had never been used by the navy for any official missions before.  Before it stood the Admiral, his medals shining brightly upon his uniform, the proof of his effort in dozens of battles during the past few years.  Admiral Maretti looked stressed, but as the group of people entered, a composed look returned to his face, and he offered them a brief smile.

"I know you have all been giving a short briefing about what your mission on Taris will entail, but due to the importance of this, I wanted to see you off myself.  Your ship here has the coordinates for your location on Taris ready on it, and it is not likely to attract Mandalorian attention on the way down - smugglers make the run in and out of Taris daily, and most of them make it safely.  The mission, as you know, is to extract a Mandalorian wishing to defect, and to help the Republic in it's war efforts.  When you reach the ground, you will have to abandon the ship, but you have been provided with a landspeeder that will take you the rest of the way.  Your target is holed up in an abandoned cantina in Lower Taris, and aboard the speeder, you will find a comlink with the frequency he is to be contacted on.

Now, I need you to keep on alert the whole time - we cannot rule out the possibility of a double-cross, and you will not have immediate backup ready to help you out.  The Republic's lines on the ground is almost ten kilometers from the meeting place, and if you can get behind them, you should be safe.  Extraction point will be at the nearest command centre on the ground, but if you can obtain alternative transportation off Taris, we will throw our fleet at them to make a distraction if you can just let us know in advance.  General Revan seems to think this Mandalorian might just be the key to take back this planet - this mission is top priority, men.  Do you have any questions before you set out?"

Re: General OOC

I'd like to thank everyone who applied for the Mandalorian Gamble for their interest.  I have now selected a group of players who have all received PMs letting them know how to proceed, and for the others, I'd like to apologize - the worst thing about being a GM online, at least in my opinion, is when you have to turn down perfectly good characters.  In this case, several.  I can reveal, however, that there is a Rebellion-era game upcoming, as well as another KotOR-era game by yours truly in the works, which should have an ad up by the middle of next week at the latest.  So if you haven't gotten into a game yet, don't lose hope, there are still plenty of chances left.  :-)

Everyone, I have updated the Game Info sections for the three boards we will be hosting the games in.  If somebody (or somebodies) could check those for me and make sure they look okay, I would appreciate it.

Re: General OOC

For now we will have only four RPoL boards.  SWSEC - Star Wars Saga Edition Community, SWSEC - Clone Wars, SWSEC - Rebellion, and SWSEC - KotOR.
The community board will only host our discussions, links, character creation guidelines, etc., and the other three board will host games, a maximum of 14 each.  If we were to grow beyond that, it would be easy to add more boards, but I don't foresee that happening for a very long time if ever.

Re: General OOC

Ok, I'm a bit confused.  So the games will not have their own separate game board?  They will be threads within this board?  Am I understanding that correctly?

GM Palapatine, the game currently posted in "Available Space for PCs" is that just a title change or a new posting?

Not this board, no, but in other boards, one for each era.  For example, all our KotOR games are hosted on a single board.  This is done mostly to protect us from situations where someone joins as a GM, starts a game, only to grow tired and delete it without warning - something that is far too likely to happen on RPoL, unfortunately. . .  :-(

Re: General OOC

So here is a question I've been pondering. If a Wookiee is unable to speak if we want to play one how are we supposed to be able to communicate with our party?

Either buy a translation droid or speak with one of the players and ask him to learn shyriiwook.

Re: General OOC

1) Ask the other players if one of them would mind learning Shyriiwook.

2) If you can afford it, buy a droid with a translation unit.

3) Buy a vox-box, and pre-program it with your 10 most likely phrases, and go with that.

Re: General OOC

I thought it might be something along those lines. In your games do you allow your players to create equipment that isn't listed? I mean if it's well thought out?
