Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

Question?  Shall we be using the Backgrounds from the Rebellion Era Sourcebook?  I much prefer those over Destinies because the addition of one or two skills to your Starting Class Skill List is a great boon for players trying to reach a Prestige Class that has skill requirements without having to multi-class to get a skill you need.  So for example, a Soldier can start out with Knowledge(Life Sciences) Skill and never have to multi-class to Noble inorder to meet the skill requirements for the Medic PRC.  Thus characters can pick up Talents that have more prerequisites, which are the better Talents.

Requirements: All characters must be Trained in either Survival or Gather Information.  They must be serious about being able to track down their target.

Prohibition: Jedi Characters must no longer have an attachment to the Jedi Order, thus they can have no more than 1 or 2 levels of the Jedi Class to reflect the fact that they have left or been kicked out of the Jedi Order.

Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

Is that all that needs to be discussed right now?  If so, then are you going to post the announcement or should I?

Yes, we are using Backgrounds instead of Destinies.

Post the details in the Seeking Players section.

Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

Does that mean no destiny points saving player butts? Or will we allow DP's to be accumulated for that purpose?

If you read the rules, we are using a combination system. You select Backgrounds but you can spend Force points like they were destiny points...

Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

It looks like I am going to be light on players for my Community Game.  But I will proceed anyways and maybe later more players will join.

So what am I to do about starting the game thread?  Do I start a Game Thread here in the Community, or do I create a game outside the Community and give my players a link to it so they can RTJ that?

Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

It's really up to you. We can operate under this one so to keep the community together but given the huge number of threads it may be better to just create a new game and link it here...

Re: [GAMES] GM Game Planning Discussion

In the past it seemed to work well with having a separate game that was linked to the community here.

Squeep!  I do like having my own cage.  I can use as much newspaper and wood shavings as I want.  I can have the twirlly, running wheel all to myself!  It's only my spittle on the licky-nozzle for the water bottle.  I can chew on the cardboard whenever and wherever I want.  And I get to choose what corner I drop my little pellets in.

Awww, but then no one else from the Community would be able to look in on me and scritch me behind my little ears, or tell me what a cute whittle piggy I am.  Then again, it would be nice not to be bothered by Peruvians who only want to roast me for their holiday meals.  But usually all people want to do is cuddle me when they pick me up.  I do likes the cuddles.  The head-chopping, not so much.

Re: [GAMES] Living Force: Cularin

As you may know, I am running, with the help of another GM, a "living word" game: link to another game
In practice, it is a campaign where there are various adventures ongoing at the same time, with characters that can move freely (in general) from the end of one adventure to another starting adventure (with groups mixing up) and players that may have two characters in two different games.
Of course, you can also have different GMs running different adventures in the same Living Word!

The basis of this living word is (of course) RPGA Living Force campaign, but adventures can be brought in from any source, as long as they don't contradict the general campaign world.

I am also allowing characters to move to and from other Star Wars games. For example, I am running a Dawn of Defiance campaign that is very linear and railroady, so a player can move a character to the Living Force: Cularin campaign for a one-off game and maybe come back, or stay there if there is a preference for the other format, or vice-versa. Of course this needs a little bit of flexibility (for example WRT timelines), but it's not impossible.

All of this to say that we are now running three adventures and at least one of them is approaching its conclusion, releasing a few characters that will probably look to start a new adventure, then there are a couple of new players (and that's before bumping the game advertisement), so, if another GM (or two) would like to join, it could be a good time to do that and turn Living Force: Cularin as a kind of "GM-community campaign".

Re: [GAMES] Dawn of Defiance

My Dawn of Defiance game link to another game is getting very close to the end of Episode 1.
I initially started one Episode 1 group and then, due to players request, a second Episode 1 group. The two groups clicked in very different ways and, eventually, the second group disbanded, while the first is progressing strongly (one character that "survived" the second group moved to the first group).
Now that Episode 1 is almost over, I gave a chance to the players to take a break from Episode 2, allowing new players in. We had just one dropout and the replacement came in swiftly.
I'm a bit surprised as Down of Defiance is a railroady campaign and this can not be liked by everybody, but looks like good groups, where everybody gets along with the others well, can overcome easily this kind of issues.

My overall impression, running two SWSE campaigns, is that it's not difficult finding SWSE players at all, but it is quite difficult gelling the groups together, more than for other rulesets. I'm not really sure why... perhaps the franchise is so emotional that everybody expects something very different? Not sure.
What do you think?

Re: [GAMES] Living Force: Cularin

Two episodes were recently completed, so I have opened a new one:

quote:
The Resistance within Group 2, status: open for applications!
quote:
With the presence of the Metatheran Cartel established on Cularin, things continued to change in the rainforest world, and not for the better. People have been disappearing - not showing up for work, not coming home in the evening - and runors abound. Since the heroes proved themselves by uncovering the Cartel's presence, maybe they can discover what is happening in the jungles outside Gadrin.

An adventure for low-level Living Force characters, at least one of them must have partecipated to A Cularin presence.

Re: [GAMES] Living Force: Cularin!

In the Living Force: Cularin campaign link to another game the adventure The Resistance Within just reached its end, so I opened up Revelations and Refutations, can be played with no problems by characters just joining the campaign as well as by characters that played A Cularin Presence and/or The Resistance Within.
This new adventure will close the trilogy linked to the Metatheran Cartel.

Revelation and Refutation adventure just reached the minimum number of characters required to start playing, but I'll wait for some more time before starting, in case a couple other players want to join.

Something is very, very wrong in the Asteroid Belt where Nirama and his smugglers make their base, and it's not something Nirama trusts his own people to sort out. Are you up to the challenge?

An adventure for Living Force heroes of level 1-6.

Re: [GAMES] Living Force: Cularin!

TopWorld hopefully will open the way to the Between the Worlds trilogy, while Revelation and Refutation will be the last instalment of the Eye of the Sun trilogy. As part of the Eye of the Sun there is actually an extra, that is an interactive session, but so far I have still to decide if it can be actually done successfully on this platform... what do you think?
Of the Clouds of Genarius trilogy so far we have played only Head in the Clouds. Maybe in the future we'll be able to progress this trilogy as well.
So far, out of the adventures that we played, only The Price of Business is a standalone adventure.

Re: [GAMES] Living Force: Cularin!

Now I am running Echoes of the Jedi in the Dawn of Defiance campaign and at the same time Coruscant Dawn in the Living Force: Cularin campaign and both of them are heavily related to Almas Academy on the Cularin system (although in slightly different times).
This is a nice handshake between the two campaigns, although there are high chances that I will short-circuit and mess up things with some undue cross-contamination...
