Cole started to lead the group, horses and all, toward the corral and barn. Before he got far, he saw the Major leaning against the back corner of the house. A moment later everyone glimpses the man. He had apparently been watching Randy and Joe sparring and perhaps eavesdropping on your conversation.
"Evening, gents," he said, tipping his well-worn hat. Long, light gray-brown hair spilled from underneath the hat, although his face was clean-shaven. Dressed like any hand on any ranch, Major Gray seemed unremarkable. It would have been easy to overlook him, iffin' a feller didn't already know who he was. "Cole, bring your friends 'round to the front porch once you've watered them horses."
