Re: Chapter 12: Hearings

In reply to E.N.S. Ringgenberg (msg # 948):

Jameson enters the kitchen and visually inspects the items to which ENS refers. He still holds his rifle, barrel pointed at the floor.

"The knives are moine, I reckon. Oi do not have a ledger of utensils, but we have a few for cookin', I know dat." He looks at the breechloader, in the lamplight. "The pepperbox, dat moight be Kate's. Oi know she kept one for protection."

In reply to Fionnbharr Jameson (msg # 949):

ENS nods at his statement.

Very well, we'll take along the firearm... I'd also like to take these two nicked knives since that's an element of our investigation. I'll get them back to you as soon as possible if they turn out to not be involved. I'll even have them sharpened... fair enough?

Re: Chapter 12: Hearings

In reply to Fionnbharr Jameson (msg # 951):

ENS looks at Jameson.

Well you still have a knife left for cooking, and as I said you'll get back the others as soon as they're cleared, probably tomorrow. Still, I apologise for any inconvienence... and I hope you understand that I cannot discuss an ongoing investigation. The facts will come out in time.

ENS picks up the items and starts to head for the door, then pauses.

One more thing Mr. Jameson, I need one more quick look in your barn...

I promise there will be no more shooting!

...he adds with a slight smile.

In reply to E.N.S. Ringgenberg (msg # 954):

Wonder what this is all about? He's surely a deep one, Jake thought to himself as he heard the Perfesser announce that he wanted another look at Jameson's barn.

I need to remember not to play no poker 'gainst him . . . 'less we's playin' for mighty low stakes.

Cole Trayne sees that Rory is armed with the same rifle he was holding back at the ranch, when the Jameson's exited the house and engaged the deputy and his posse in conversation.

In reply to Fionnbharr Jameson (msg # 956):

Well that was the deputy's decision... I assume he had hoped to find Kate without disturbing you.

No need to bring up Mr. Xu... that'll just start more questions.

But now that you're aware of us, it's only polite to ask.

Re: Chapter 12: Hearings

In reply to Fionnbharr Jameson (msg # 962):

ENS begins to move towards the door with the items as he talks.

Oh I am a professor of various subjects... I'm doing field work on the various tribes I am able to encounter for my University back east. Deputy Beauregard has enlisted both Jake and I, and the others you saw tonight, in the ongoing investigation.

Once ENS exits the kitchen, he goes to Amadeus to stow the items.

Randy, we're going to make one more quick check of the barn, then we'll be on our way. Alright?

OOC: Since Jameson has given tacit approval, ENS is moving towards his goal. I'm assuming both Jake and Jameson follow him as he talks.

Re: Chapter 12: Hearings

In reply to E.N.S. Ringgenberg (msg # 963):

"Quick it is, ENS." Randy acknowledges.

Mr. Big'uns not very happy about the idea of any more delay. His opening cadence hides his disdain, however it doesn't last. "I figgur you'll find a cat, a rat, a horse of course, a rake, 'praps Jake, and vats and vats. But, the last damn thing you're likely to find is a clue, man. So let's git one of our own and realize Mr. Jameson's 'bout to the end of his wits with us. The likes of all this bother coulda been done just at sun-up."

In reply to E.N.S. Ringgenberg (msg # 963):

Jake figured that the Perfesser had his  reasons for wanting to check inside the barn again, so he held onto the lantern that they had used to provide light while they were searching the cook-shack and walked along with the Easterner.

Re: Chapter 12: Hearings

In reply to James E. Beauregard (msg # 965):

JEB observes no particular reaction from Indian Kate. Like Rory, Travis, Cole and JEB himself, she looks to the east to watch the silhouette, which still walks in parallel with the deputy's posse.

Rory Jameson, on the other hand, speaks aloud. "Is he what the shootin' was all about?"

Jameson listens to Mr. Big'un and the professor as he walks with them to the barn. He snorts.

"Ya hit da nail on da head," he says, turning his head towards Randy. "And who are ya, speakin' some sense after all this?"

Edit: improving the NPC's idiom, no change in wc
