Chapter 1a: Jonas Still Marching Home

Re-cap:
Everyone except JEB was eating at McKinney's restaurant. Cole, Travis, Meriwether and Chance are inside McKinney's at a table with a talkative local.

The children and Silas are on the front porch, taking air.

Artemus is at the end of the porch, speaking with a group of six men.

Re: Chapter 1a: Jonas Still Marching Home

Silas turns around and leans his back up against the porch railing, "Well howdy you little whipper-snappers," he says, "what brings you out here to the bad influences of ol' Silas?"

A galloping horses slows down in front of McKinney's, dragging a full wake of dust behind it. It's impossible for Art, the 6 men, Silas and the children not to notice that JEB has returned.

"Well lad," Silas says while placing his hand upon Owen's shoulder, "If'n it's bad words you wanna learn, ya'll come to the right place. But I'm sure we be on a short least, so why don't ya tell me what bad words ya'll know and I'll fill in the empty spots."

Silas smiles at both of the kids and continues with, "Unlike some of these other fellers, I don't think words can hurt ya too much, after all, they just be sound. So dammit, might as well know the good'uns."

Re: Chapter 1a: Jonas Still Marching Home

Meriwether watched the children leave & gave Chance a nod.

"Excuse me ole Chap! I think some fresh air is in order." he said.

The Englishman tips his hat to those at the table & heads out to the porch. Once there he goes & stands by the children & Silas, as he does not want to interrupt Art & the other six men.

"Good afternoon Silas!" Meriwether said. Then upon seeing Jeb "By Jove! Jeb has returned... mayhaps with some answers!"

As Chance is the last one at the end of the table, he too gets up to leave.  If there is a need to bus the table, he will deliver the plates and cups to the proper location.  When finished, he too steps outside.  Looking about, he notices Silas and the children and approaches them.

OOC: Chance wasn't the only one left at the end of the table. Travis and Cole were still speaking to the gray-beard. Chance may still leave and go outside, if he pleases, but I wanted to make sure the situation was clear, as I recapped in the first message in this thread.

OOC: Yes, yes.  I had figured that Travis and Cole were more to the center of the table than Chance was.  But at any rate, Chance will definitely follow the stated course of action.

Cole says to gray beard...

So, do you reckon the federals might still be holdin' some of the rebels in yonder camp?

"I don't know," says Gray-beard. "Iffin' they do, I reckon, they wouldn't be there long." He pauses. "I heard Wild Bill Hickok was in the Federals camp, on the way to Springfield himself, not a week ago."

In reply to Judge Messalen (msg #14):

Cole raises an eyebrow...

Wild Bill, huh? Is that right? Well that might explain why they seem rather full of themselves - an important man like that visiting their camp. You see, we had a small run in with them when we first arrived. There we were minding our own business, traveling through the area, when a squad from their camp approached. I gotta say they were a might rude with their questions. And, not very helpful, either.

You wouldn't happen to know the name of the commander of that their camp, would you?

Artemus returns to his friends at the end of the porch.

I think we should head over to the Federals before it gets any later. Then we should settle into the hotel, in the back - or the boarding house by the saloon.

Re: Chapter 1a: Jonas Still Marching Home

JEB sees Cole and Travis talking to some strangers at a long table. He also sees the food line, with only one person in line. Looks like his friends have finished their meal.

Cole, who has a better view of the door, sees JEB enter.

Re: Chapter 1a: Jonas Still Marching Home

In reply to James E. Beauregard (msg #23):

Yup, he's a good horse alright. I'm glad he got a chance to get some exercise. He hasn't had a good run in a number of days. Thanks for taking him out.

Cole then nods towards gray-beard.

This here feller has been mighty neighborly to Travis and myself. He was tellin' us a little about what is going on in these parts.

Cole then turns to gray-beard.

It seems we are going to be spending the night in this here town. I don't have much money, but I would be right honored to buy you a few rounds at that saloon I found earlier. I'd like to repay you for being right friendly. Some of us, at least I know I will be, will be there tonight.
