Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Smyth woke with a start.  This day had the chances to be a very good day, he thought.  He opened a chest in his cabin and pulled some of his finery, pure white breeches, a rarity seen in this weather and place, then drew on a deep blue long jacket outlined with gold piping.  He completed the image by buckling on Jon Beaupre's golden sword, and donning a tricorn hat.  Carefully, he pulled the jacket around his body to make sure that the blade was completely hidden and he smiled a cold, humourless smile before donning his mask.

"Timmins!" he shouted loudly.  When the dimunitive man showed, Smyth growled, "Make sure there are two tables of men at the Tavern this morning, prepared for trouble.  Have them bring daggers and clubs, but tell them to start nothing.  They are there to be called on if I need them."

"Be off"

Smyth left his cabin and headed to the tavern to watch.  This could be a very good day...  He laughed evilly as he walked across the deck.

Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Smyth stomped around the deck, only the slightest limp showing as he traveled across the deck.  "Timmins!"  He headed to the aft of the ship where his cabin claimed the entire poop deck of the Rum Runner.  "Timmins!  Bring out the china, and set two places.  The cook better be making something good tonight, and make sure we have some of the wine we took from that last pidgeon."

He stripped off his coat and threw it on a hook, then opened a large chest and pulled out a white ruffled shirt and black breeches.  As he changed, he threw his soiled clothing into the same chest and then with a chuckle, he removed the silver sword that Cerri was so interested in and slipped it into the chest along with his clothing.  He locked the chest and slid it next to the wall along side three more very ornate chests.

"Make sure that Black Pete and Hark are standing guard at the door.  They are the best swordsmen we have and I don't know who she be bringing.  Tell them full arms, an you stay alert out there.  I suspect this might get interesting.  Now go!  Finish getting this ready!"

A cloaked figure along with two taller clocked figures came up the gang plank  "Halt, who goes there?" a gruff voice called out to them.  He was a burly man short of stature but obviously built to take down many a foolish sailor.

"Tell your Captain that it is the Black Swan and two of her men here.  I have come for afternoon tea and crumpets." she growled under her mask.  Looking to Tom and then to Aglaca before looking at the man before them again.  "I suggest you tell him pronto!"

Aglaca stood in an easy stance slightly behind Cerri, and looked around carefully.  He was surprised how many of Smyth's men he knew by sight.  Along the rail towards the foredeck were the two that he had "encouraged" to leave Captain Hunter alone on the deck.  Two of the four crewmen near the mainsail were part of the group he had taken the blades of, and he was happy to see that they did not seem to have their blades back yet.  The two men that were standing guard at the door beneath the aft deck were two that he did not recognize though.  He assessed them quickly and felt a mild concern as they appeared quite competent.

He broke into an easy grin at Cerri's words, "This should prove quite interesting my Captain."  He whispered softly.

The portly guard blinked at Swan, "Wait ere a minnit.  They be spectin ye."  He turned and whistled loudly, then stood at attention as Timmins stepped out from the ladder leading below deck.

"Aye the Captain be expecting you, but not yer guards.  They kin wait by the door, but the Captain awaits you inside."  He turned and lead the group to the doorway in the aft deck and knocked loudly, "Cap'in, The Swan be here."  He opened the door for her and stepped back.

The Black Swan be quite impressed with the gentlemanly gesture.  What they could all be in a different world.  A different life.  "Thank you Timmons. Tom, Aglaca  you best step over to the side where there are some barrels you can sit on.  This won't take long." she said as she entered the doorway to find Smyth standing at one end of a table lavished with fine china and silver cutlery.  But it was not the splendid feast before her but the man himself.

Sizing him up he was at least the height of Jonathan.  Broad square shoulders and a trim waist. She was decked out in a fine crisp white linen shirt with ruffles.  Ruffles seemed a bit strange taking in the man as he was.  A cut throat Pirate that was merciless and yet capable of setting a sight like this.  Yet, as did she, still wear their masks.  "Good evening Captain Smyth.  This looks lovely." She started to untie her cloak and to look for a place to hang it.

Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Timmons reached out and gently took her cloak from her hands, "I'll hand it on the hook by the door ma'am"  He then walked to the table that Smyth was standing behind and pulled the near chair out for the Swan, "Yer seat ma'am"  He stood and looked at Smyth who waited for Swan to be seated, then nodded at the bottle of wine being chilled in sea water.

Timmons used his dagger to peel the wax off the cork, then slipped the slender blade along the cork and worked it out cleanly.  He poured half a glass and handed it to Smyth who held it up to the light in the window, then swirled it lightly.  "This should do, though it is a bit young."  Smyth remarked.

Timmons poured a full glass for the Swan, and refilled Smyth's glass then returned the bottle to the sea water and turned to bring forth a plate of what appeared to be small apple fritters.  "Enjoy yer first course"  Timmons bowed slightly and escaped out the door.

Smyth nodded to her across the table, "Swan"  As she seated herself, he reached to the right side of the table and removed the cover from a white porcelain tureen.  He spooned out a couple dollops of soup into a bowl and handed it to Swan, then made him his own bowl and covering the tureen, he sat slowly.  "I do hope you like pork and fowl.  They are rather plentiful if you know which islands to visit.  But first"  He raised his glass of wine, "To your health M'Lady.  In your journeys, may the booty be bountiful and unprotected."  He smirked slightly at the double entendre.

Aglaca looked at Tom and then at the door that the Swan had disappeared through and the two men that guarded it.  He shrugged and stood with his back to the wall right along side the man on the right.  He maintained an easy grin as he watched the movement on the deck.

"It all smells delicious, you must have a masterful cook." she smiled beneath her mask as she lifted her wine glass. Unused to innuendo she did not grasp the double meaning of Smyth's words still thinking business. Lifting her glass in salute "To your success Captain Smyth and I am quite sure you can cut straight through any protection you come up against." meaning of course what she had thought that he was talking about. "You surely lay a good table. I am impressed." She could not have imagined that the fierce pirate captain could be so couth.

"I am very good cutting through any protections that I deem offensive, and I must admit that I lay a good many things well, M'Dear."  He sliced a portion of the roasted boar and added it to his plate, then passed the rest of the boar along to Swan,  "Tortuga is no reason to dine like peasants."

The rest of the table was covered with an array of vegetables and additional meats.  It was clear that Smyth had spared no expense for her.  "Please eat up, t'is not often that I get to offer a meal to a noble."  His eyes carefully regarded Swan over his mask.

Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Hunter rowed his boat to the ship, his Englishman crew ready to "attack" while he and a few of his pirates would sound the alarm first. He just hoped it would work and not too many would die for this. The navy would run at the first sign of retaliation but still it was risky. Hunter jumped up to the ladder not trying to be too quiet as he climbed. "Rise ye dogs! Ready and wake! A navy attack be comin and ye'll be caught with yer bloomers showin!" He ran to find the captain's door past startled crewmen who had no time to react. He hammered the door to Smyth's quarters with the hilt of his sword.

"Swan, tha navy's coming! Be quick or be dead!"

Aglaca stiffened as he saw Hunter approaching.  His hand went to his blade and when Hunter banged on the door of the Captain's cabin, he drew, and place his blade across the door in front of Hunter.  "You may not enter Captain.  What is it you know?  Some sort of attack?  How did you find this out?"

Aglaca stared at the man, wondering what his game was.  He knew that Jon was Hunter and most likely the only English force in the area was his own.  He leaned forward to mutter softly, "I know not your game, but Tom and I are getting Swan out of here.  Stand back."

Aglaca slid between Hunter and the cabin door as he spied Timmons hurrying over.  "Timmons, the man says an attack is coming."

Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Timmons heard the commotion, and headed for the door to his Captain's cabin.  He glared at the assembled crewmen that seemed to have followed someone but not stopped him.  "I will deal with you later.  Get out of my way"  He spoke softly, but the assembled crew heard him clear as a bell, and scrambled out of his way.

He stopped at the doorway where Aglaca, Tom and that Captain Hunter were standing and drew one of his daggers.  He began cleaning beneath the tip of the nail of his index finger with the point.  He turned to the crew, "Get anchors up, and set short sails, while I figure out what is going on."  He glared at Hunter, "Naval or ground attack?"

"Baah, to hell with it."
"  He grabbed a nearby crewman, "You, tell the crews to load every other gun with canister, and the rest with ball.  Once loaded start looking for targets.  Do this quickly, or else."  He nodded and almost smiled as the crewman dashed across the deck. "You!" he grabbed another crewman who was running by.  "Up in the nest!  Now, and tell me what you see.  Kill the one up there for not sounding when this fool came on board."

He spoke rather loudly, "Everyone arm up.  No one steps foot on this ship unless invited!"  He glanced at Hunter.  "Now what is it you know of this attack?"

Re: Rum Runner - Main Deck
Jon smirked a bit at Timmons, the man was questioning him...while the Navy was bearing down. "I spotted them from my ship, a small party, they be comin te take the ship! Catch ye without a large ship so ye'll not see em comin! We raced te get here!" He shook his head and told the truth, "Look I am in tha Swan's service so ye and yer captain can go te tha depths!"

As he spoke he rested a hand on his sword eyeing the man, he didn't want a fight but he was not going to let this go. The longer it drew out the worse the losses would be for him and his men.

Timmons looked over his shoulder, "Tell them to run out the Grape and keep their eyes peeled."  He then looked at Aglaca, "This man fought my Captain this afternoon.  He is not to enter."  He stood there until Aglaca nodded then turned and started organizing the men on deck.  His movements were quick and simple, the defense he set up looked to be very well structured with only a few of the smaller men wandering about the deck with belaying pins.  The men carrying weapons were just inside doors or hatches.  The word was passed to watch for grapples, and be prepared to fight.

Aglaca nodded to Timmons, then looked at Hunter, "Back up a bit, they are moving inside, and it would not be good for you to be the first person Smyth sees when he comes through the door."  Aglaca maintained his position between Hunter and the door to the cabin, with his blade drawn and held down at his side.

"Thank you for your warning."  Aglaca squinted slightly as he looked at Hunter, 'What was this guy doing?  Was he trying to break up the meeting between Smyth and Swan?  Why would he do that, unless perhaps..  No, he does not look like the man who thinks his lady love is being seduced by another.  I wonder what he is up to now.'  His thoughts raced through his head.

Hunter nods to Aglaca, "A fair warning friend..." He hoped his men would only give a show of engagement, it would make sense they would run if the attack was foiled before it began. He looked to the door why was he so annoyed at how long the Swan and Smyth were taking?

Jon looked over Aglaca's shoulder and met Smyth's eyes with a wry look, "Sorry te disturb you Captain, but I spied some curious men rowing this way in long boats. Royal Navy if I had to wager by their garb. And I thought you'd prefer an alarm..." Smyth seemed vexed and that made him happy. The man was a viper and he was going to enjoy any chance to set him back.

"Though it seems they were hoping for stealth," Hunter drew a pistol from his belt and fired a shot hitting one of the boats. It was a careful shot that was easily missed but the effect worked as the men in the boats cried out and turned their boats. "A shame...but wherever their main force is it can't be far eh..." He eyed the sword at Aglaca's back and smiled, "Something my large friend here has done to offend Captain?"

She was up on deck now and signaled to her men.  "Ach! the only ones boarding here are yer men Hunter.  I would suggest you order them to retreat with you back to your ship.  I sail for England NOW and shall return when I can for the Brotherhood.  Tom!  Aglaca!  we swim for the Swan!  Thank you for a wonderful night Cpt Smyth we must do it again sometime" and she cast off her cape that Smyth had given her and then dove into the water without another word!

Tom looked at Aglaca and shook his head.  "What was this crazy woman up to now" he then looked at Smyth with a sour look.  "Nothing had better have happened this night that she did not sanction.  Or I'll be hunting you down mate, you can depend on that!  And you Hunter, I don't trust you as far as I can see you but thank you for the warning." and with that he too dove into the water.

He did not worry about Cerri's swimming skills as he was the one that had taught her.  He had taught her everything for her survival because her survival was his survival!

Hunter gave Smyth a smile and a swift salute, whatever else he may or may not have achieved this night he had spoiled the man's evening. That alone made it a success as he leapt and turned into a steep dive. Swimming for the shore he hoped the men who had been dressed as sailors for the navy had gotten away. It was a dangerous play but he had to trust they were good. Smyth would be angry it wouold be a dangerous meeting the next time they crossed paths.

Aglaca grinned as he went over the rail...  His easy manner belying the fact that he could barely swim...  Hitting the water, he gasped and began dog paddling earnestly, heading in a line generally for shore.
