Who Ordered This?
Eddie Caruso sat on the floor of the small house, smiling reassuringly at the old couple.
Of course, with over a dozen zombies banging on the grates outside the windows, smiling reassuringly wasn't doing much good to help the nerves of Dr. and Mrs. Szczedrzykowicz - Eddie had steered waaay clear of that particular Polish unpronounceability, instantly deciding to call them Dr. and Mrs. S. instead.
Eddie had been somewhat lucky: to scare off what had been described to him as a group of drunken assailants, he'd opted to take his shotgun with him. That had probably saved his life: the powerful slugs had floored eight of the zombies, leaving him with only five to deal with, with that many zombies, while he tried to convince the old couple that opening the door to the policeman who had come to help them before he was overrun by the leaving dead was a very wise idea indeed...
That had cost him another clip and a half of his 9mm. He still had both clips of his secondary weapon, but only meant about one bullet per living corpse for each gun... Not much, considering that being blasted with a shotgun had barely slowed them down.
Yet he kept smiling at the old couple, ignoring the banging and the moaning. The safety grates were more than secure enough, and the armored front door was not going to give anytime soon, so for the moment they were safe. His biggest worry now was Monica: he knew she was going to do something insane like trying to rescue him, and he had no way of stopping her...
