Group 2, Part I

Eddy Smalls and Vidar Brock were an unlikely pair. They had been thrown together in their attempt to join a small, local street gang, the Raven's Claw. Neither knew the other, but they both knew Zuul and fenced their ill-gotten gains at his ramshackle, musty old pawn shop. Through him, they met a shadowy character named Durgin, who proposed they petition the Claw to enter its network for protection and information. A few rights of initiation later, they had arrived at their final test: the burglary of an Upper Ward residence.

Durgin made a suggestion, and after checking it out, the two decide the two-story house is as good as any. After all, Durgin said a little birdy told him the occupants were all away on a trip. A jeweler's home should bring a good take.

Like sewer rats creeping along the walls, Eddy and Vidar stick to the shadows and narrow allies between the houses until they arrive at their destination: beneath a window at the southeast corner.

Re: Group 2, Part I

Eddy doesn't trust the setup. It seemed to easy. Surely no-one in the upper ward would leave their house unguarded? He peeks into the window and scans the room for a full 2 minutes before proceeding.

With no lights in the house and only the moon's silver glow above, Eddy can see nothing inside. He tests the window and finds it it secured.

Re: Group 2, Part I

Vidar, without a word but a small nod to Smalls to look out for trouble slips his prybar out from under his robe and slips in under the window, prying slowly, carefully and shifting locations often. The trick is to pop the lock through force slowly, without shattering anything or leaving enough damage to notice.

OOC: 20:51, Today: Vidar Brock rolled 6 using 3d6. forced entry, 12.

Re: Group 2, Part I

To say it's quiet when the latch pops would be a bit optimistic. But, it's slightly less noisy than a brick shattering the window. The window lifts freely once the latch is broken.

Re: Group 2, Part I

With a satisfied nod Vidar tucks the prybar back in his belt inside his robe, puts his head inside the house and sniffs the air. If there is a guard dog or other creature it might be detectable in the air of the closed up house. Once satified that it's clear he climbs in.

Both inside, they take a few seconds for their eyes to adjust to the utter darkness. However, the room remains too dark to make out.

Frank pulls out the Tallow Candle and Flint and shows it to Vidar with a questioning face.

OOC: I should have noted before that I would bring those on a night-job, but things moved a bit fast. You don't mind right?

Re: Group 2, Part I

Vidar shakes his head no, the light from striking a flint or a match could easily alert people who happened to be in view of the windows. The first order of business was to get the lay of the place, figure a couple quick exits, and make sure they were safe. Then they could block off the windows with blankets and light up each room.

Any traps or tripwires would likely be in the doors and on the drawers and chests, so Vidar followed the wall closely, like a rat, toward the south, moving slowly and carefully looking and feeling for anything like a trap along the way.

OOC: 11:56, Today: Stripe, on behalf of Vidar Brock, rolled 4 using 3d6. Stealth.
11:55, Today: Stripe, on behalf of Eddy Smalls, rolled 12 using 3d6. Stealth.

Of no fault of the stealthy thief -- with the exception that he is intentionally fumbling around in the utter darkness -- Eddy very nearly tips something over. No doubt, it would have been loud. He's not really sure what it was, or what type of room he's in. However, he thinks he has began to enter a hallway to the east.

Blinded by darkness, Vidar still manages to find a hallway to the south and what he thinks is a stairway on its immediate west wall.

Re: Group 2, Part I

Vidar gets on his knees and reaches down the stair to feel it to make certain it is a stair and that it goes up or down, and stops there to listen before he bypasses it and continues to crawl slowly south, following the wall.

Re: Group 2, Part I

Vidar hears nothing atop the climbing staircase, and continues south along the east wall until he comes to what he thinks is a closed door leading east.

Eddy continues west along the north wall until he comes to a west wall. He feels around to his left, then finds another wall and follows it back the way he came until he finds an open door to his right.

Re: Group 2, Part I

Eddy is fed up with all this stumbling around in the dark. Nobody's home and everybody's asleep. Even if somebody was watching, lighting a candle wouldn't be what attracted their attention. He lights up his candle, and assesses this place for fat loot.

Observation 1 minute.
