Character Creation

Note to new players beginning in Chapter V:

Everyone misses a day here and there, and everyone runs into occasional stretches of trouble posting; however, a minimum once-per-day standard posting rate is required.

Please read the following threads before sending a request to join:

It will take most readers about an hour to complete. Of course, some will wish to read Chapter IV, but it isn't required.

Please note in your request to join that you have completed the required reading and make a statement regarding your commitment to posting rate.

Thank you for your time and interest in To Steal a Dragon's Tooth!

Character Creation

All player characters are thieves and are members of the Raven's Claw street gang. The Raven's Claw is a loosely-organized band of mainly street urchins, pickpockets, cutpurses, filchers and burglars.

Characters may be built using up to 125 points with a maximum Disadvantage Limit of -50 and -5 in Quirks. Remember, a Disadvantage isn't a Disadvantage if it's not a disadvantage.

Being members of the Raven's Claw—required of all PC's—is a Secret (Characters, p. 152) worth -20 points and it doesn't count against the -50 limit as it is a "campaign disadvantage" (Characters, p. 11). It is illegal to be a member of any street gang deemed a criminal organization under the empire's law, punishable by imprisonment.

The Tech Level is 3, with a starting wealth of $1,000. As per the rules on page 26, only 20 percent of the character's starting wealth will be available for "adventuring gear." However, as per the rules, characters who have the Disadvantage, Wealth (Dead Broke or Poor) can use all of their starting wealth on adventuring gear. Characters that are Poor or Dead Broke cannot have a Status higher than -1. Unless the player can articulate an exception, Dead Broke characters are homeless. Being homeless is a crime in Rimuldar! The homeless are gathered and put to work in the fields, or worse, the mines.

After purchasing starting equipment, please convert dollars ($) to copper pieces (cp), silver pieces (sp), and gold pieces (gp) and change the prices listed on your character sheet. Record any unspent cash on your character sheet as copper, silver, and gold.

$1 = 1 cp
$10 = 1 sp
$100 = 1 gp

Players are discouraged from creating characters with murderous hearts. It is strongly suggested that players create characters who survive with quick wits rather than sharp blades—burglars, cutpurses, pickpockets and thieves, not assassins, highwaymen, ex-soldiers, headhunters or other men-at-arms. The Raven's Claw shuns violence and will oust any murderer.

Suggested skills: Acrobatics, Acting, Brawling (or Karate, Judo, Boxing, or Wrestling), Carousing, Climbing, Current Affairs (Regional, the Principality), Detect Lies, Diplomacy, Disguise, Escape, Fast-Talk, Filch, Gambling, Holdout, Intimidation, Jeweler, Jumping, Lockpicking, Merchant, Observation, Pickpocket, Search, Shadowing, Sleight-of-Hand, Stealth, Streetwise, Traps, and Urban Survival.

In Chapter V, Acting and Fast-Talk will be vital.
