The Beginning

Celebrating the 50th year of this world's existence with thinking, feeling life on it, the gods have called for a gathering as they have decided to give a display of their power. The people are excited and have come to gather at the circle of the gods. This is a place set aside by the gods to appear to mortals.

The people have gathered at the circle. The gods have gathered also. There is a circle of thrones there for the gods to sit in. Ao sits at the head of these thrones with the Dwarf-god Moradin at his left side and the mighty Dragon-god Io at his right side.

There are thousands gathered here. Each race has an elder. These elders were the prototypes... the first created before the gods made others like him or her. The elders aren't much older than the others gathered today as the world is still quite young. The oldest elders here are actually celebrating their 50th birthdays.

Elder Trogdor comes and stands proudly before Io, giving a nod of acknowledgment to Ao in respect. Io looks upon his creation with great pride, even allowing a smile cross his face.

Elder Fargrim Dinhammer comes before Moradin and kneels, head bowed. Moradin says, "Rise, Dinhammer." to which the elder dwarf rises. Other such greetings are given by elders to their respective gods.

Ao waves a hand and Erathis says, "People of Creation! We, the gods, have gathered you here today to celebrate the world having reached half a century. To you, this seems like a long time and a great benchmark. We are excited with you! This is a wonderful day! However, as you have all patiently breathed your first and been enjoying this new world, something has come to our attention that demands response... and we want you all to participate. Diversity has been a wonder to behold, yet you all must experience each other. Even now, the gods stand before you as excited as if we were the ones living for the first time! To see you all learn about each other and from each other is a wonder in and of itself. We long for you all to unify. Bring this world together and help each other understand your different likes and dislikes. This entire world belongs to you! Now... so that this task will not be overwhelming, we the gods have chosen to select teams for this task. When we call your name... come forward to the center of the circle!"

Erathis walks to the center with Ioun. Ioun hands a scroll made of liquid sky to Erathis. Erathis then pulls it open.

(This is where I will need to know your characters' names, races, classes, etc. A reminder, we are lvl 1 and following the rules to the letter. In character, our characters have NOTHING. But go ahead and buy what you want. I will RP your equipment into existence. The RP has begun.)

Re: The Beginning

Some would consider being a history buff would be easy when your people have only existed for fifty years.  If anything it's harder, as all things important have happened long before then...  Though, many would argue your kind existing is pretty important.

It was also bizarrely difficult to even consider discussing philosophy when the Gods now only clearly existed, but frequently hung around.  For example, what was it that stayed Melora's hand from outright wiping aberrations of nature from existence (Not that Haol didn't do that to himself all on his own from time to time).  Too many witnesses?  If so, what would it matter to a Goddess?

Outright asking those kinds of questions just seemed like a poor idea. Which could explain Hoal's interest in less personal aspects of the world and it's longer than talked about history.  That, and it was easier to keep track of the order of questions.  'What was the first rock mined by the Dwarves' is a viable question while 'Why did you abandon the Halflings' isn't technically valid quite yet, nor would likely be a safe question.

'Some days, I would feel safer if my thoughts on things that do not exist were more certainly just my imagination.  So many knowledge checks even at level one Hoal can pass on a Take-Ten.  So much knowledge that he could succeed a check for that doesn't technically exist yet.

He hopes to avoid hiding from reality in the literal sense if something startles him during the festivities.  That's always awkward.

OOC Style: When in doubt of what to post and half unconscious? Ramble!

That and I have no clue what PC's may or may not actually be around.  I'm guessing Flora maybe and.. uh... people?

Re: The Beginning

When called by name, a youngish gnome lady steps forward.  This one isn't a grumpy axe wielder.  Rather she's a cheery hammer wielder.  And by hammer, we mean the variety intended for driving nails, not smushing skulls.  She's the one who invented nails in the first place after all.  She keeps her welding goggles over her eyes to shield them from the radiance of the divine ones, and approaches bashfully.  She's no more scared of them than a child being called being called to the front of the class to receive a gold star from the teacher for doing a good job reciting the alphabet, but she's blushing plenty.

Who has a name like Hole? she thinks to herself, not knowing how it's spelled, Maybe his parents named him for the part of his mommy where he came out of?  Poor guy...  Musta been teased a lot.  But I gotta admit... that's kinda funny.

Re: The Beginning

Ioun and Erathis look at Tinker and interrupt her thinking pattern. "Tinker. Come." Erathis requests. Once the blushing gnome makes her way to Erathis, the goddess continues, "You have been inventing and doing it well. The invention of the nail has been truly aiding people in putting things together. But you have not really explored the arcane much. Neither then, do those who practice magic seem to explore practical technology like you do. But what if you put them together? Ioun and I have a gift for you to take with you to the places you will be traveling..."

Erathis and Ioun touch Tinker on the forehead and the gnome glows for a moment. "You are now an Artificer. A mix of arcane and technology. With this special blend, new things will come that could never come from the two ingredients on their own. Now use your new gift and bless those you meet! May it serve you well."

Meanwhile, Sehanine addresses Hoal, "I think we all would, Hoal. But it's even safer if you embrace your gifts and use them in good conscience. Your friends will all help you share both burden and joy. Be with them more than not and you will come to understand that things such as knowing the future or even traversing time will pale when compared to the power of friendship."

Re: The Beginning

Sehanine then took 5 Psychic Damage... Okay, so it's kinda hazy where 'reading thoughts uninvited' falls under 'Vs Will or Psychic Damage', but Variable Resistances don't do Psychic.

This sort of thing is part of why Hoal worries though, so vicious cycle.

"My sword will bring pain to your enemies.  My existence will torment theirs.  If they die they will still exist, and no joy will be awaiting them.  I can not use my gifts in clean conscience, but they will be used at your behest."  As inevitable as her abandoning her children.  Or more so, depending on the writer.

Re: The Beginning

Tinker's face turns beat red, and she slides her toes across the ground bashfully.  "Th... Thank you," she stammers, "I... I will!"

She takes mental inventory of her new abilities and gasps at how amazing they are!  She claps her hands in excitement, anxious to make use of them!  But then she notices that a lot of them are very combat oriented.  She bites her lower lip, wondering if this is any indication of what the gods are expecting in her future.  Well so be it!  She puts on a stern look, preparing her resolve for the trials to come.

Re: The Beginning

Could be the fact there is no game mechanic for people taking psychic damage for reading your surface thoughts. Or the fact the GM mistook thinking as speaking once again. Or both. Either way, violence / damage is kind of foreign concept at the moment anyhow. On a final note, though, it doesn't make too much sense for Sahanine to be telepathic, but then all the gods are likely prescient to some degree.

Sehanine smiles and says, "Thank you for your willingness and humility, Hoal. You and Tinker will be on the same team."

Melora then says, "Flora. Come forward. I will give you a gift."

Flora, a female elf, comes forward and Melora touches her. "You now have the ability to always know which way is north. Also, the Primal Beast has touched you this day. You are now able to change into the animals you love so dearly."

Flora looks very excited! She changes into a wolf right then and there. Many people are amazed.

Corellon says, "Quelenna. Come forward." and a female Eladrin walks to him. He touches her on the forehead. "You are now a keeper of the arcane arts. Go and learn as much about the arcane as you can while you travel with your new friends." Yes, the GM left this gift a little vague for a reason. "And this is your implement." he hands her a wand.

Quelenna blushes deeply, she bows her head, staring at the ground. She slinks back when excused. Corellon just smiles. These mortals are so cute sometimes.

Finally, a male deva walks over to the group. "I shall lead you until such time as I am no longer needed. I am anxious to come and experience this adventure with you." his voice sounds like a trumpet. Though he's clearly keeping the decibels down.

Ioun nods. "Fate may bring you others for your group. Now go. Get to know each other while we all celebrate this day."

Meanwhile, other teams begin getting picked. Their members, you all shall meet later on throughout your adventures.

Re: The Beginning

Hoal nods to Sehanine.  Just because she hates Will hate crossbows does not make them of any less deserving of respect than Flora or such.  "I will protect them to the best of my ability."  and that's not just because of a sense of obligation.  Or because Tinker is a cute girl.  It's because Hoal actually wants to ensure her safety.

He looks over to the other so far named PCs, "I hope to meet your practical expectations."  Expecting Hoal to be an antisocial jerk, whether true of not isn't an expectation that would hinder his task very much.  "We have all been called by name, yours is not given.  What would you have us call you."  This request given to the Male Deva.

Tinker blushes, smiles, and waves at her new allies.  She glances several times at Flora, whom she thinks is the prettiest thing she's ever seen.  She idly wonders what she'll be needing protection from, but doesn't think too hard on it.

Re: The Beginning

The male Deva responds to Hoal, "Please call me Janix."

Soon, the party is started and people begin to socialize. Tinker getting the chance to see all these wondrous, big people of all kinds of appearances. In Hoal's case, of course, the other people aren't big. Just different. Flora goes aside with her new adventuring party and asks, "So what do you all usually do for fun?"

Re: The Beginning

Hoal nods in acknowledgment of Janix's introduction.  He is sure Janix gets enough comments about how his voice sounds like the adults in a Charlie brown cartoon... Wait, they probably don't.  Best to keep it that way.  At Flora's question, he responds "I search for and learn the lore of the Gods and the ways of the Arcane.  In order to better determine for those to come true lore they may rely upon."

So, basically Hoal wants to create the Insider Compendium for things that fall under Religion and Arcana.  That's... nice?

Re: The Beginning

"What don't I do for fun?!" Tink asks in reply to Flora, "Shucks, I can't hardly think of anything I do that isn't fun!  There's inventing, and dancing, and inventing, and reading a good book, and inventing, and being granted powers by the gods, and... did I mention inventing?"
