Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

The drunk bumps into Monk just as Mittens gets her two siblings to look. So it's entirely too late for either of them to prevent that. Not that it matters. The guy merely bumped into Monk. It doesn't hurt or even budge Monk. However... "HEY! Watch where you're GOING, you big JERK!" the drunk yells at Monk. And with that, the guy throws a punch at Monk.

Raichel begins charging towards the pair, but won't get there before Monk can act.

Not even rolling it. The guy is drunk and his only experience with fighting is 3 or so times he has actually not fallen unconscious from drunkenness and got his butt kicked in a bar brawl.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Monk just takes it in the shoulder (literally shrugging off the drunken swing), he does not attempt to appeal to reason, so much as he attempts to appeal to the average dislike of consequences for one's actions.

"The Sherriff is right there.  Do you really want to spend the festival locked up after only being here for three minutes?"  Sure, it would save a lot of people trouble if he just decked the guy.  But Monk didn't feel like joining the guy in lock up either.

Though from the look on her face, the Shifter might have a flying clothesline to take that choice out of his hands.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Mittens knows that Raichel can handle this without getting in trouble but has her doubts about her own ability to stay out of lockup.  Given the lack of concern on the buff stranger's face, he can probably handle himself too.  So she walks in their direction without even bothering to draw her sword.

"Extra!  Extra!  Read all about it!  Tourist assaulted by local drunk in full view of sheriff!  Local hero Raichel saves the day by using precision non-lethal martial arts techniques!  Sheriff thanks her for dealing with the punk so gently before her EXCEEDINGLY VIOLENT sister INCINERATED him with a BUILDING SIZED FIREBALL!"

She puts on an evil grin and her hand begins to catch fire!

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Raichel goes to the drunk, who is currently distracted with Mittens' monologue. "Ah! Mittens! Your hand's on fire!" The drunk grabs some water from a nearby barrel and goes to splash Mittens with the water, causing her to be drenched and her two siblings to get splashed a bit. Though Raichel puts the guy in a lock immediately afterwords.

Since it's a cantrip, the fire is magical and doesn't get extinguished. That doesn't stop the fact the drunk totally drenched the cat.

The sheriff is approaching, but not there just yet. "Ken... you're drunk. While I appreciate your concern for my sister's well-being, she's OK. Now appologise to the stranger."

Ken just goes limp in Raichel's grip, belching to the side and making her wrinkle her nose. "ewww...."

Drunk guy ranged splash attack v Everyone's reflex. 15! Hits the siblings and misses Monk. No damage. Just wetness.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Monk may be a 'Violence IS the answer' guy at times when it's convenient, but somehow threats of building sized fireballs for drinking in public seems a touch, oh, crazy.

He avoids wetness thanks to being in the opposite direction of the thrown water Totally having good reflexes.  At least he can respect a good headlock, even if he is facepalming at the situation.  "Thank you, locals do tend to be more well received by the law enforcement than passing strangers I have found."

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Mittens sweatdrops more from the fact that Ken seemed to actually care than by her being splooshed.  Which is annoying, sure, but still...

"Yeah.  Cantrip.  Doesn't hurt.  Speaking of cantrips....  Prestidigitation!"

She dries off Raichel's clothes.  With MAGIC!  Then moves on to drying off Timothius and herself.

Timothius says, "Thanks, Mitts..."

He moves over to Monk and says, "Try not to be too upset with him. He's weak to peer pressure and some of the guys here think it's funny to pressure him into drinking when they know he gets drunk easily."

The sheriff arrives and sees unconscious Ken. He then looks at Raichel, who explains what happened. The sheriff looks at Monk. "Pressing charges?"

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

"Well rumor has it that there's this really violent cat girl in town..." Mittens answers, "And she'll blow up your house if you don't brush your teeth before bed.  But I don't believe it.  I've crashed a number if times without brushing and remain in one piece.  If you were here five years ago I'd have warned you about the serial killer, but nothing exciting happens here of late outside this here fair.  Name's Mittens!  This here's my sister Raichel and my brother Timothius!  What's your name, and how'd you get so buff?"

Seeing no charges pressed, the sheriff takes the drunk away.

Tim and Rai nod their heads to Monk as they are introduced. The cat boy seems to be curiously inspecting Monk's shoulder, though.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Note to self, Mittens likes talking about explosions.  "Nice to meet more reasonable people after that last one.  I'm called Monk, and hitting murderous wildlife and bandits with a stick as hard as you can tends to do that."  How come Monk is so buff?  How come Raichel is so skinny you mean, obviously.

Monk's shirt sleeve is fine, thanks.  How are you today?

OOC: Back when I was at Foodmaster (Now closed), cops took an obvious drunk out of the store.  Then dropped them back off in the parking lot 20 minutes later, where he proceeded to come back into the store.

Mittens raises an eyebrow.  She thought she was the only one with a strange name that matched an actual word not commonly used as a name.

"I thought I was the only one with a name that matched an actual word not commonly used as a name.  So Monk in the 'friar of an abbey' sense?  Or in the 'practitioner of martial arts' sense?  Or perhaps both."

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Raichel gives Monk a Finding Nemo Seagull "Mine?" look the moment he mentions beating up bandits with a stick. Her feelings for his skill are further enforced when Mittens mentions the name could mean he's a martial artist. But she exercises patience and listens for his answer to Mittens.

Meanwhile, Timothius asks, "...are you OK? He hit your shoulder directly. Guy may be weak-willed and get drunk easy, but I know he can hit hard when he wants to..."

"More that the people who raised me didn't care to remember my name in the process." It has also left him a little skewed on naming standards.  People name themselves after plants and rocks so names about clothes make sense too right?

"I never got any teachings about that sort of thing, I just hit things as hard as I can, sorry."  No wax on wax of lifestyle back there, it was more 'we don't care as long as it's clean'.

He looks over to Timmy,  "I'm okay, thanks for asking though.  It's like like I held still for the drunken swing, just the drunken walking."

Mits shrugs.  "Whatever works.  Personally I like both sword and magic, so I've developed my own style I call Sword Wizard.  Has absolutely nothing to do with the name.  That comes from a silly nursery rhyme."

Her interest level in festival treats is increasing and her eyes wander to the food vendors.

"Just hit things as hard as you can AND make sure your enemy doesn't hit you as hard as they can. Right?" Raichel says with a curious look.

Timothius looks concerned. "The people who raised you didn't care? Gosh... sorry to hear that."

Raichel says, "Well how about you stick with us and we'll show you around town?"

"I don't like being hurt any more than the next guy, so I do try to avoid it at least.  They cared enough to take care of me at least.  Maybe they were just really bad at it?"  Monk was raised by them and even he has trouble telling at times.

He nods,  "Being shown around sounds like a nicer time than just aimlessly wandering.

Mittens leads the way to the nearest food vendor.  "Adventures in flavor at least.  So tell us more about your journey here.  And the murderous wildlife and bandits you mentioned.  Sounds exciting!"

Timothius ohs. "Oh... OK. I guess everyone has their ups and downs..."

Raichel says, "Make a muscle for me!" she reaches to feel Monk's muscle if he complies.

The food vendors are quite competitive during this festival and the air is full of YUM. Choosing one is hard. Thankfully, as locals, the siblings know which ones they enjoy most.

Confections are great, they tend to get terribly mangled if you try to bring them on long trips alas.

He looks to Raichel's reaching, but takes it calmly enough when it's apparent she's not going for a headlock.  "Well, okay I guess."  Monk Flex!...  Meh, 16 STR, not even +4.  He-Man Adam disapproves.

"We should get him a shirt with 'I'm made of meat!' embroidered on it!" Mittens comments, opting for some spicy kabob put together by the most exotic food vendor there: Ameiko Kaijutsu.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

While Raichel has smiley-faced exclamations dancing over her head and feeling Monk's arm, Timothius orders two more of those kabobs, going heavy on sushi and lighter on hot spices. Meanwhile, Raichel flexes for Monk. Her 12 str LAUGHS at your saying 16 is low. But she certainly isn't a wimp either, considering 10 is supposedly "average".

The food, of course, is fantastic.

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

Monk just gets 'one of those' pointing to the closest finished kabob available.  At least Raichel looks better with her flexing, but that might also be a factor of wardrobe and 'knows how to properly flex' as much as the fact she's a nice girl who probably hasn't been hit in the head with a bandit's club before.

Adventuring tends to sting.  Way more than spicy food.

Mittens chases her food with several chugs of water, licks her lips, wipes her mouth with the back of her arm, then lets out a satisfied, "Ahhh."

"Yum!  Ameiko here is one of the most interesting people in town.  Being heir to the richest family around didn't stop her from becoming an adventurer and making her own fortune!  Bought the Rusty Dragon Tavern with it, and specializes in exotic food and music.  Doesn't have a bouncer, 'cause she doesn't need one.  I bet she's tough enough to take on the sheriff!"

Re: Rise of the Runelords: 1) Burnt Offerings

The twins both seem very happy about the festival. Then again, so does EVERY local. Like this festival is a bigger deal than one might think. Once fed, the twins drag Mittens and Monk to a craft table to do some crafts. Then they watch a magician do some tricks. He does what would be "generic" or "cliche" magic tricks by modern day standards, but Golarian doesn't have television, so unless you are an adventurer who gets out a lot, magic tricks are rare and exciting.

Next stop, Raichel and Timothius seem to eyeball clothing. Raichel because she's a girl. Timothius because he just likes fancy clothing. Both because they always like making their clothes match some way (whether by wearing the exact same clothing or having some kind of "theme" or color in common). Of course, both twins are more than happy to tell Monk about Sandpoint and that, of ALL the souvenirs Monk should get, the commemorative Swallowtail Festival Desna holy symbol, which marks this special occasion. "It's more than just a festival medallion" Raichel explains, "It represents a turning point in Sandpoint's history. So not only does this medallion represent Sandpoint's festival, in a way, in represents the hopes and dreams of Sandpoint's people. So it is the best souvenir for saying you were at Sandpoint."
