Re: Kingmaker Chapter 2: Rivers Run Red

"I know enough to recognize the fish snake was yelling insults."  Scott punched clear through a man and his rider before, and even he's surprised the remaining fish snake could survive Grall's attack.

He looks over to the girls, as Joey heals them.  "You two going to be okay?"

Re: Kingmaker Chapter 2: Rivers Run Red

"Thanks to Joey!" Shelly squeaks. "Yeah. Thanks, Joey." Tread agrees before saying, "Thanks for the concern, Scott. That was a bit scary. But I think I'll be fine. And thanks, Grall, for agreeing to what the team wants."

Shelly nods and helps the group bind up the snake. Tread sits on it to keep it from squirming much. Shelly waits for people to wake the thing, then casts Comprehend Languages. "Hail, vicious Tatzlwyrm. Why did you attack us?"

Joey carefully coaxes the tatzlwyrm back to the land of the living.

"You invade territory!" the monster answers Shelly in draconic, weakly struggling against its bonds, "You kill mate!  Hate you!"

"Your welcome," Joey answers.

"Ya know, in some ways, it would be more merciful to just have killed it in combat," Grall points out.

"Yes, it would just figure I am suddenly braining sentient beings after that whole speech back at town.  But I'm not as learned in wildlife to recognize something trying to eat a friends face is also able to hold a conversation."

Shelly continues the conversation, "We didn't know it was your territory. And we killed her only because she was trying to kill us. You may hate us, but we have spared your life. Do you wish to keep living?"

While Shelly continues talking in Draconic, Tread looks at Joey. "Yeah. So... how'd you know?"

Re: Kingmaker Chapter 2: Rivers Run Red

"It's the language of the kobolds," Joey answers, "And it was a bit more detailed than the noises most mindless monsters make.

"Suppose you can ask about the dead person in the... uh... nest?  Who was he?"

Grall keeps out of the discussion and heads over to recover the body.

The tatzlwyrm doesn't say much of use.  Swearing revenge, eating, and a new mate with lots of children who will kill and eat all other ugly orcs, humans, and white otters in the world.

"I get the feeling they do not know, or even care.  If we're just some faces to be bitten for wandering by, what's one more."

Re: Kingmaker Chapter 2: Rivers Run Red

Shelly says in Common, "He isn't really saying much aside from swearing, curses, and a vow to have babies so he and his children can eat all the ugly people like us."

Tread stabs the thing in the eye to shut it up. "What a waste."
