Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

"I suggest you stay down there until we finish then."  At least he didn't tell the kobold to stick around.

He sees that while Nathan is rather banged up, that the Angel will clearly live so is not overly concerned, and heads over to the portcullis "Is there a method of opening this on your side, Gnara?"

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Nathan puts pressure on his neck wound and digs through his bag for something to use as a bandage.

"Times like this when I want to kick destiny in the groin."

Ooh!  Better than a bandage.  A flask!  Glug glug glug.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Gnara stares at her team with a grin as her hand reaches to the wall to her right and pulls a lever. Even as the portcullis starts to pull up, Gnara giggles, holding onto the lever.

Hazel breaks free from still more glue. "Are you guys gonna be alright?" He heads to Nathaniel first to check on him and starts helping patch up the angel. Hazel seems to know what he's doing (haha trained in heal)

After patching up Nathaniel, Hazel checks Rhagar and Gnara before going to find a spot to sit without sitting on broken pottery.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

"I suppose you may know how to locate where the deity supposedly in charge of such things to do so, Nathaniel."  The angel probably meant that figuratively, Rhagar.... Probably.

Rharar is fairly well off compared to the rest, having taken only one mild hit.  He feels silly spending a heal surge over 5 HP until he remembers this is level 1, so his surge value is only 6 anyways, and that 5 HP is 1/5 his max HP.

"Thank you Gnara, it would have been inconvenient to deal with that otherwise."

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

A cursory search of the room shows no real loot besides what was on the kobolds.

Speaking of, the kobold in the pit is soon snatched and bound up by Hazel. Then tossed back into the pit for good measure. "We'll be back for you."

Gnara giggles and eventually breaks free of the glue she got stuck with.

Once the team is ready to move on, Hazel is willing to let Nathaniel take lead, though somewhat hesitant.

A flight of stairs leads down into a room that has four stone coffins, all of which show
signs of vandalism and abuse. To the left is a series of six niches, set apart into two groups of three. Two more niches along the walls each hold a suit of armor. On the opposite end of the room is a raised section of floor with a makeshift altar to Tiamat set atop it. Three kobolds carrying spears stand in front of the altar.

"Less traps than expected, but the standing coffins in the wall are rigged with crossbows that fire at what we would consider shoulder height."  He gives the map data explanation for trigger points.

"It is fortunate most mundane traps do not account for flight or teleportation."

Hazel says, "Unless you have some way of quickly disabling the traps while fighting, or some kind of mage hand spell, I really don't see how you're going to manage that before having to fight those kobolds."

Gnara giggles as she holds up a pot. "We could throw glue pots at them in order to seal them and mung up their workings..."

"Much better than never using them I suppose, Gnara."  Item hoarding.  Does it happen to you?  You know it does.  "The one farther in is the most problematic, the closer one can be ignored unless something so foolish I can not bring it to mind occurs."

Even though he will probably roll a 2 in the first turn of combat again, Rhagar at least needs to make a token effort at trying to get that 'have CA vs those that have not acted yet' ranged sneak dice rather than throwing pots at things.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

GM says kobolds haven't heard or seen the group yet.  So plenty of time to talk strategy.

"I'd rather not fight those kobolds on their terms.  It would be nice to lure them into a trap rather than barge into their trap-filled room.  Gnara proved earlier she can imitate sounds perfectly.  Maybe imitate one of the kobolds we fought and say, 'Hey guys!  We killed an adventurer and he's got more booze than we can drink!  Come and get it!'  Then we jump 'em in the room with the pit."

Gnara giggles. "Good thing we know a guy who knows draconic..." she grins over at Rhagar. "You can coach me how to say it in their language to make it more believable... you know... since they prefer their language over common."

Hazel huhs and says, "That's a good idea, Nathan. And a good catch, Gnara."

The rogue coaching the assassin on language so that the paladin's idea to lure the enemy into a trap will be more believable. Who said teamwork can't happen outside of combat?

"There is merit to this plan, I had not considered it because the three of them lack any ranged weaponry so would be forced to cross the entire room as..." he pauses, then says "I am not used to being the only one with a weapon that can reach beyond ten feet.  Letting them reach stabbing distance before we attack seems a regrettable necessity."

That said, he gives Gnara pointers on the fine art of insulting dead adventurers in Draconic.

"I'm thinking as they approach you say, 'You spilled some!  I'm drinking as much as I can before the others arrive!'  Hoping that'll make them toss caution to the wind."

He takes position and takes another swig then wipes his mouth.

"What?  Gotta make sure the smell is in the air."

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Once the plan is enacted, the kobolds seem to be fooled as they yell in draconic, "HEY! No fair!" and run in that direction!

Gnara is perfectly frozen, her grin becoming creepy and she somehow keeps from giggling.

Hazel is holding his breath. His wounds from last fight are fresh in his mind... as is the sight of Nathan getting hurt so bad. He is hoping he can let Nathan tank this time and maybe health will be more manageable as a result.

Kobolds turns: They RUN toward us.
Gnara puts a shroud on one of the kobolds and readies Leaping Shade for when a kobold gets into melee range.
Hazel can not take his turn yet.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Rhagar only has one worry. Rolling terrible in the first turn of combat again.  Of course this is because he isn't considering Murphy hard enough, instead expecting that logically three skirmishers with no traps would be an easier fight than their previous one.

  Readied blah blahs.

FIVE SECONDS LATER!  Rhagar throws a shuriken right into the first approaching kobold's neck. ow.

Kershlink-kershling!  With a flash of blades, the kobold collapses in a heap!  Was it the sword or shirukin that struck the first blow?  Hard to tell, they were so fast!  Nathan flicks his sword tip to keep the blood from wetting his grip.

"No one but me's drinking my booze!"

How heroic.

Hazel trots to catch up with Nathaniel.

Gnara moves to Nathaniel. then teleports behind kobold. So double-move.
Hazel moves and readies a heal in case Nathaniel gets hurt.

Rhagar moves up behind his currently favorite doggy, and throws a shuriken that buries itself in the wall next to the Kobold.  That was totally a deliberate thing and in no way a terrible miss, really.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

MOST monsters will fight to death. But for kobolds, that is the exception. They just die easy is all. "OKOK! I surrender!" and drops his weapon! Kobolds are usually not so brave. They also usually don't have gold hair.

The other kobold can be heard yelling, but his yelling quickly fades from sheer distance.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Gnara continues to be quite useful in the sort of job you would expect from a Tank rather than a striker.  Of course from what grasp he has in social interaction, he does not compliment the girl on being able to block an entire passageway with her body.

People tend to look like they weight more on a grid map anyway.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

The kobold says, "Skull-skull."

Gnara says, "Skull-skull? Nice! Can I play?"

Hazel asks, "What? What is skull-skull?"

The kobold answers, "Fun game! Swing sticky rock from rope at skull! Try to stick skull to rock! Grab skull, get points! Wheee!"

Gnara nodnodnodnodnods, looking equally excited.

Hazel stares at Gnara and the kobold with a look of confusion.
