Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Nathan is trying to picture the game.

"Informative.  So...  How many players we talkin?  Any more traps or pitfalls?"

He tries triggering a trap from a distance by throwing a kobold on it.

"This game is called Trap Trap."

Swig.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

"Are these skulls still attached to people at the time, or prepared skulls?"  Skull Skull sounds like what some Kobolds left home alone came up with.

Then corpse tossing ensues "Nathaniel, we already told you they are not heavy enough to trigger those."

"Two players..."

A body is thrown and the trap does not go off.

"....the skulls are not attached to anyone. You could not get a skull to come back to you if it was attached to a body."

Gnara giggles and says, "Who cares if it doesn't set off the trap? Throwing bodies is fun! I like this Trap Trap game! Heeheehee..."

Hazel says, "Two bodies might set it off?"

Nathan tries tossing another body on top.  Nothing.  Third?  The trap triggers!

"Third time's the charm.  This is going to be time consuming.  Maybe we just mark the trigger spots and move on?  Or is it worth it to fuss with to lul the kobolds in the next room into a false sense of security.  Thinking that maybe we got bored and left or whatever."

"That would be preferable to deliberately triggering them to shoot you in the face, Nathaniel."

When it they stop throwing more bodies on the triggers, Rhagar uses the out of combat downtime to just disarm the pair of traps.

"I suspect they will not fall for such things a second time, if only because by now the remaining skirmisher will have warned the next room."

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

The traps are disarmed. This doesn't stop Gnara from picking up bodies, throwing them and giggling about it.

Gnara giggles, "But they fell for it one more time than they would have if we didn't do it. So definitely a win for us!"

Hazel says, "I'd say worth a try to see if they are that stupid, but we don't want to give them any clues we are coming."

He eyes the bodies for potential as meat shields...  Muuch too small.

"This does seem to be what we are left with, though if things get too risky falling back would be a good idea."  Even if we handwaved 'Rhagar stealth peeked around the corner' into having already happened, all he'd have seen were a pair of slingers on ledges and a closed door.

He would be advising way more caution if he knew there were DRAKES

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

When the group gets to the north end of the room, they can see stairs leading down.

Gnara giggles and says in a dark tone, "Let me scout ahead..."

Hazel is about to say something when Gnara just starts down the stairs and seems to fade out of existence.

Shortly, she reappears, fading back into existence and giggling. "Hmm... how to describe this. There is another sludge pit like in that first room; same size even. But the room is much bigger and more open. Surrounding the pit are four coffins. The coffins have skull piles on them for the skull skull game. On the opposite end of the room is a pair of double doors. To either side of the double doors are two ten-foot high platforms, a kobold standing on each one. One kobold had the stone that was tied to a rope that is attached to the ceiling."

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

From the description, Nathan has no idea the game rock could be used as an effective weapon.  So he considers what he does know.

"Ledges flanking a double door.  Wild guess that they lead to stairs or ladders that lead to the ledges.  What a bizarre design for a mausoleum!  In any case, they likely barricaded the door, and 10 foot walls aren't easy to climb in heavy armor.  Might be best if we just plink at 'em from across the room till they flee or charge."

"Well, Even with your armor you could fly that high, though it would also give them a chance to take a swing at you.  The smaller left side they could not surround you, but I could not help you on it unless you cleared off space either"

HE looks to Gnara "Of course, there is always pulling them down to us as well if need be."

Gnara suspects Murphy will just have the kobold catch himself before he falls off the ledge.

Hazel says, "I don't have any weapons that reach farther than my chain, and it only reaches ten feet."

Gnara giggles, "I can't reach far enough to hit them from our side of the room either. But I could teleport up to them if one of you was at the wall..."

"Attempting to use the slings would only be worthwhile for Gnara and I, the rest of you would be better off THROWING the rocks, or their spears." Which is true, from a numbers standpoint.

"Unless they have more worrisome reinforcements than skirmishers behind that gate, it would be faster for you and I to fly up to one side and start stabbing, when not trying to kick them over the edge."

Hazel says, "The time we took to disable traps and rest was plenty of time for the runner to have had the doors opened for him and then barricaded."

Gnara shrugs. "I wonder if they gave up on us being a thing. The were playing skull skull when I checked, though, heehee."

Hazel says, "Well I'm ready when you guys are."

The kobolds are ready for us. So there is no surprise for either side. Initiative starts once we decide it is time to go in.

Rhagar's instinct is to move to the next piece of cover, but as he comes out from hiding he realizes that leaves him just remaining safe for a moment longer personally is not so practical, and hurls a sling stone across the room and across the throat of the most convenient target.

Move: duh.
Standard: Sly Flourish with sneak, hits. 20 DMG.

Slinger A HP: 24-20 = 4

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Two kobolds swing at Nathaniel and one of them dies in the process from sudden angelic charge. A drake scurries up the stairs to charge Nathaniel, but nips at air. All three are still out of Rhagar's sight.

Hazel rushes forward, but stops short, ready to heal anyone on the team.

The kobold on the other ledge grins as he catches the skullskull stone.

Gnara materializes behind the slinger, flanking it with Nathaniel. Then stabs him, killing the kobold! "Heeheehee..." She remains insubstantial.

The kobold earlier? The one grinning? Yeah, he throws the stone at Hazel, knocking the doggy back 10 feet and hurting him!

Another drake starts going up the stairs and Gnara slices it with her sword!

The drake SAVAGES Gnara and it doesn't seem to hurt her near as much as it should have...

The kobold in the corner tries and fails to stab Nathaniel. The drake near Nathaniel also fails to nip at him.

HAHAHAHAHA Insubstantial! Drake rolls low on its d10+9 dmg (11 total) and insubstantial means Gnara only took 5 dmg. XD

Rhagar's streak of rolling a 2 on what should be a 'sure thing' continues, as he crosses the room and comes to a stop atop the ledge, missing his stab at the Kobold as he is unprofessionally distracted

"Why the *Draconic expletive* didn't you mention there were drakes when you got up here?!"  Oh look, Rhagar CAN raise his voice.

Nathan sees an opening and finishes off Rhagar's kobold.

"I said 'more' didn't I?"

He holy-signs the drake.  Not like it would understand it as a rude gesture or otherwise, but a divine mark is placed on it.

"Drakes can't fly.  We should kill the kobold on the other side then maybe lure the Drakes to the pit and push 'em in."

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Hazel scrambles to the wall and rushes up it with ease. Guy must do his pull-ups a lot.

"Never figured you for one to lose your cool, Rhagar." He comments as he places himself between Rhagar and the drake.

A couple kobolds position themselve, ready to charge.

Gnara giggles as she stabs the drake near Nathaniel in a vital spot! "I just love it when my allies gang up like this! More blood! HEEHEEHEE!" is she drooling?

The other drake, though, savages Gnara again. This time, doing a decent amount of harm to her.

Nathaniel continues to luck out as the drake near him nips at him weakly... maybe it's that nasty wound Gnara dealt it?

17 dmg / 2 = 8. Gnara NOT QUITE bloodied! Hate it when that happens. XD Gnara could have gotten even more nasty if bloodied.

Re: Kobold Hall test (Gnara and Hazel)

Rhagar says "They are Drakes, Hazel" as if that is all the explanation that is required.

He flies off of the platform away from the battle, what a cowardly excuse for a-oh he's coming right back between Hazel and Gnara.  He outdoes Gnara's drooling problem with a spray of freezing liquid across the faces of the Drakes, and drives his rapier through the shattering scales and skull of the already wounded beast.

Even with half it's skull missing and a sword driven through it's brain, it still moves to lunge at the Draconian before slumping to the ground halfway through.
Move: Fly around to avoid AoO.
Minor: Dragonbreath vs drakes, hits both, 5 DMG.
Standard: Clever strike vs Drake A, hits. Exactly enough to kill it.

Drake B HP:  42-5= 37
