Does the word "aperture" factor in here?

Uh ... I got nothing yet. Perhaps I will have to reread all previous descriptions. There was a stone pyramid with a skull on it? Looking away from the portal? Is it possible to turn it around?

Is there still active power in the runes? Perhaps they are keeping the portal closed and we just need to erase the. Freeing any nasty things beyond the door, but that's what we are here for after all...

Nothing of it has something to do with science, charts or 82 though.

Weird, found this link. Might be an accidental similarity in the name.

Cannot hear it with sound though, my wife sleeps 6' feet away. Oh well, I'll snuggle in beside and think about RPOL again tomorrow.

5th clue: "The portal itself is circumscribed by hundreds of tiny runes, carefully carved into the stone portal and filled with lead."

So much for poor Randolo - that is the fate of people not logging in.

Anyway, when Zar did his Read Magic Runes spell some time back, you just said they were harmless. But are they filled with any power at all? If no, we can ignore them. If yes, it might be worth melting them out or something similar.

They have the power to prevent passage which in this case is essentially harmless.

Sheesh, give a guy some time ;). Now that we know the runes are still empowered, the obvious way to go is destroying them. Breaking one with a Shatter spell, or melt them down with a bonfire, or hack at them with tools...
I'll post something later today.

Uhm, how important do we think that scroll and whatever's at the end of the gold chain is? WE could go for Felix's plan, but it sounds rather risky. I see us all running from an avalanche. ;)
Or we simply leave the corpse...

In situations such as this, unless I had a compelling reason to take the risk, I wouldn't. You do not yet have a compelling reason.

It would be risky to shift the rubble whether by hoist or a prop. That much is clear.

So I guess either ponder the question further (How do I free the items with the least possible disruption?) or try an unused exit.

Sooo should we discuss this in character? I don't want to have Vhagaar make a decision for himself then have the roof cave in on everyone! :P

Ooh... actually Sidd and Zar already went down the stairs again, as did, I think, Josh's characters. So we cannot stop you if you want to go for it. ;)

Do "shades" count as undead?  And, more importantly, does Arnie know that?

Sorry I vanished for a bit! Fell into a me-sized hole of work, family and Dota 2. Not that Dota is a game really suiting me - I suck at realtime - but it still has some interesting aspects...

Yes, turn-based is much more fun and relaxing. I just need that extra time for checking all my stuff and make sure everything is doing what it ought to be.

I guess I've been putting this off for some time. I should have tapped myself.

There are certain bones I have enjoyed chewing for most of my sentient life. I would sometimes think mournfully of the time when I would have finished chewing my current bone--even if I knew I would replace it with another. There were always more bones and I was always ready to chew. Ultima III -> Ultima IV -> Bards Tale -> and on and on.

I thought RPOL would be just such a bone, but for reasons I can only grasp at, it is not. I felt pretty much done after our last adventure and I didn't really feel the urge for a new bone.

But, you know, it was a good bone. I chewed on it for 8 or nine years. That's some bone, right?
