And so it begins....

Rain had been sheeting down across all of the metroplex for hours, the thunder rolled across the buildings causing them to shake even as the lightning cracked across the sky jumping from cloud to cloud.

Few people were out this night, even the various gangs seemed to have acknowledged that Mother Nature's fury should not be challenged and were huddled in whatever passed for their dosses within their own turf.

What did it say about yourself being out in this shit on such a brutal night?

Dwight sits in an old diner in Puyalup weathering out the storm at a window booth. His Growler is getting soaked, and washed, but his duffel is in the floor at his feet. He sips at his coffee and just passes the time making occasional smalltalk with folks and flirting with the waitress a little.

He thinks, "Doesn't look like this storm plans on letting up. Might be bad things about to happen."

Re: And so it begins....

Oscar stood under the partial shelter of a doorway in the Barrens. Behind him, music with a strong Bass could be heard reverberating the material of the door and coming through it only barely softened. It had been another few hours spent in the strip club looking for his sister. It was obvious he'd been looking for something in the place, but no one inside had mentioned anything about it. He'd nursed a few drinks for an hour apiece and sat through a couple of shift changes of the dancers. Still, no sign of his sister.

He looked out at the rain, hoping it would let up a bit but he knew it wouldn't In the short time he'd been in the city he didn't think he'd seen a full week with sunshine every day yet. He put his tophat on, and staying as close to the building as he could for some shelter, walked out into the mess on the way down the street to the next club.

Deathstrider stood at the window of his home. Goth music is blasting from a bedroom down the hall. His baby sister is having one of her private moments. Strider watches as the rain beats upon the window as thoughts run rampent through his mind. His thoughts are on his parents and what his baby sister told him. His thoughts are on who could have murdered them and if their murder has any link to his older sisters's dissappearences. So engrosed in his own thoughts, he does not hear his little sister step up behind him......

With windows awash in water just pouring down the pane, blurring what lay outside, it takes a moment for Dwight to realize what he is seeing.  What little light comes from one of the few street lights still functioning further down the block further throws things into confusion but...

Across the street two forms, most-likely human are bundled up against the rain but they are bent over another form or maybe it is a bundle but that doesn't seem quite right given...

Stepping out of another incessed doorway that leads into a clearly abandoned warehouse is a well-dressed man or woman.  Man would be the most likely gender given the cut of his rather expensive suit.  European, probably at least twenty-thousand nuyen given its tailored nature.  Through the pouring rain it is hard to be sure but one thing is clear as he places the hat upon his head, he looks at you then turns away striding away from the building heading across the street.

It takes you a moment to figure out what is bugging you about him.  The rain is not touching him at all and he isn't bothering to wear any type of overcoat to ward against the weather.

She speaks softly, almost a whisper but it seems to carry like the sound of thunder.  "It's coming you know.  They'll be here soon.  And nothing will ever be the same."

As Dwight steps out into the rain, the wind gusts and pushs some of the rain sideways driving it into his eyes.  Blinking rapidly, trying to clear his vision for a moment he thinks he sees someone leaning out the window across the street drawing a bead on him with something...

He gives a sharp inhale as his sister caught him off guard, yet again. Damn elves. He turns to her, "Who is coming? And what are you talkin about?" His deep elven accent appearent as he speaks in their native elven tongue. Kind of hard to imagine the language and accent coming from a human male. But more difficult to imagine a human male born within an elven family. But it happened. He looks upon his baby sister and sighs, "This ain't more of your matrix warnings, again. Is it?" He asks as he waits for her to explain. When it comes to the Matrix, his sister has no equal in the minipulation of the Matrix. All he can do is opporate it at the most basic of levels. He stands, facing his sister, waiting for her to reply.

She seems lost in thought for a time, withdrawn.  "Yes and no.  That which comes is closer to the Father then I." she replies quietly, her words a thousand miles away reflecting clearly that her mind is far away.

Then abruptly she focuses, smiles brightly patting her brother's arm, "Expect a communique shortly.  Take what they offer.  Would you like a soda?" she asks as she turns away toward the fridge.

Strider blinks a moment and just sighs softly as he thinks, "Technomancers. There is just so much that is not known about them." He chuckles and nods to his sister as he speaks in thier native tongue, "Yes, thank you sis." It has been 6 months since he last worked and was nearly killed through trechery. He loves his little sister with all his heart. She has been living with him for 2 months now. But for the past several days, she has been acting strange. Now her strange message she has just given him as if she was speaking from miles away has really got him spooked. And that is saying much since not a great many of things can truely spook him like this.

He looks over to her, "What was that all about?"

The bundle suddenly seems to move, almost spinning in place, transforming into a form, humanoid lying on the ground as limbs seem to explode from out of the body.

The one figure that was swinging down to strike the prone form, screams clutching at his knee as a four inch heel is driven into it from the prone person's boot that snaps away as the person manages to kip up to their feet, their black duster billowing out around them.

Unbalanced now, a decidedly feminine voice rings out, "Dammit all to hell!  Do you morons know how much these boots cost?"

IGA: Oh ... I don't know you may want to give me a surprise test please. ;-)

No matter how he tries to hide it, she can always tell how he is feeling and if he is worried or not. "I am really starting to worry about you. Your talants with the Matrix is extremely rare. A smooth, cultured, deep voice greets Deathstrider but the video portion of the call is blocked.  Speaking in perfect Sperethiel, "Good evening sir.  It never hurts to begin with manners when greeting an incoming call.  A mutual acquaintance mentioned you might be interested in supplementing your income with a little freelance work.

"I decided it would be worth discovering if this is so..."

His voice trails off, his tone clearly indicating a question is there.

Walking down the alley, Eugene approaches the door.  No one jumps him and there is no sign of the person he was following.  The door inside the recess is closed.  Furthermore, Eugene realizes he never heard the door open or close nor did he see it open as he should have as the recess is not deep enough to block it and the door opens toward Eugene...

She smiles, clearly finding something amusing.  "I am fine thank you.  And thank you for your intervention.  It certainly sped things up."

As Dwight pulls up his AR screen, he considers how best to go about that given this is a foreign city and he's no longer officially employed in his former occupation.

Dwight smiles back at her, "I apologize for not being able to do more." The rain pours off his hat, but he does need to check this guy. He takes a quick pic of him and checks the Lone Star public database. He then tips his hat to her, "Excuse me a minute. I need to see if this fella has anything outstanding." He then hooks a thumb back at the diner, "If you want to get out of the rain while I look him up, I'd be happy to buy you a cup of soykaf as soon as I'm done."

DS nods out of habbit and replies softly in sperethiel, "Yes. I do what ever I can to train myself to be more independant in case there are times where I am alone and need to rely on my own wits and resources to survive." His thoughts flash back to his days in the military as a Tir Ghost. Several times he was left alone by his team for one reason or another and each of those times, to their dismay, he returns alive. He blinks a moment to flush his mind of the flash backs as he returns his attention to the here and now where it belongs. "I am the one whom you seek. What have you in store for me, good sir?" He asks softltly in sperethiel as the last fragments of his past fades away back into the deep recesses of his mind.

She smiles, balancing for a moment on one leg then the other, she slips off her footwear, walks over and pulls the heel spike out of the prone ganger, frowning at the damage done to it.  She then starts walking toward the diner.

She stops dead in the street for a moment, her body tenses just as she vocalizes with extreme anger, "Sonofabitch!  That bastard!"  Then proceeds into the diner, pushing open the door hard enough that it bangs against the wall.

He is not listed in the Lonestar database for any public warrants but you do find link that leads to a posting for him on the KE public database.  He is wanted for questioning regarding an incident at the Damn Good Koffee Bar in Auburn.

Hauling him up, Dwight is forced more to carry him then anything else while considering the transfer of the Seattle law enforcement contract.  The woman looks up, catching sight of her assailant she frowns.  "You could have left him in the street, the scavangers would have dealt with him."

She has found a booth and seems a bit distracted, her lips and eyes moving but without a sound or any real focus once she takes her eyes off Dwight.

Hauling the guy inside and getting him in the booth across from the woman, Dwight shrugs, "He's someone Knight Errant is interested in. So I'll give 'em a call. The drive through the city is calmer then most nights, the storm seems to be keeping people off the streets or those that must venture into the storm busy scurrying about their business, just trying to push through and get done.

The rain is hard enough that even through the coat, Deathstrider feels rather damp as he pulls into the parkade and begins looking for the particular stall.

DS stops and turns his head to see the handicaped spot that he nearly missed. Backing up his bike, he parks in the spot. He dismounts the bike and walks over to the elevator and does as directed, pressing both the up and down buttons at once. He then walks back to his bike, mounts it and procedes to clean off his visor as he watches for whom he is to speak to. As he watches, he sends a private text to his sister, "Got any floor plans of this parking garage? Do they have security cameras you can access? Would be nice to have just in case this pick up goes to hell."

Didn't get the idea she wanted to press charges since she got the best of the fight." He then slowly takes out his ID and presents it, "Name's Dwight Oakhurst. Formerly of the Texas Ranger Criminal Investigation Division in Dallas."

Re: And so it begins....

Deathstrider:
DS stops and turns his head to see the handicaped spot that he nearly missed. Backing up his bike, he parks in the spot. He dismounts the bike and walks over to the elevator and does as directed, pressing both the up and down buttons at once. He then walks back to his bike, mounts it and procedes to clean off his visor as he watches for whom he is to speak to. As he watches, he sends a private text to his sister, "Got any floor plans of this parking garage? Do they have security cameras you can access? Would be nice to have just in case this pick up goes to hell."

"Ungh!  I have floor plans but there was a spider in the system.  They shut down the security cameras and pushed us all out of the system.  Watch yourself brother, something is not right there." she replies, clearly feeling the dumpshock.

Deathstrider's AR beeps then refreshes showing a flashing cursor labelled 'Floorplans'.

Dwight Oakhurst:
Dwight takes out his flashlight, holds it to the window where the KE officers can see, and then clicks it off and on three times.

When they come in he stands as he tips his hat to the gentlemen, "Evening, fellas. Got a guy that thought beating a woman was a good idea. She proved him wrong, but his buddy got away. The older cop nods as he walks over.  "I am Officer Horton and this is Wallis.  You're far from home.  What are you doing in Seattle?"

His partner nods politely but Horton's tone is certainly one of professional courtesy and a slight tinge of jurisdictional suspicion.

The Texan nods and answers with a smile, "Pleased to meet you fellas. Been on walkabout for a couple years out this way. Come up through Pueblo, CalFree, Souix, and Salish country. Just wound up here little over a week ago." He then hooks a thumb over at the mook still out in the booth, "Like I said, him and a buddy decided to beat up a woman. I made a little noise, and she beat them up instead. I ran his face against the KE database. He's wanted by you fellas for questioning for a dust up at coffee shack, so I called it in as a private citizen. If I didn't, my totem wouldn't be too happy with me." Dwight smiles again, "I do like keeping the Ranger happy."

He motions for Dwight to stand so they can have access to the perp.  The older officer doesn't appear to react to any mention of Totems, taking it seemingly in stride while the younger officer frowns.

"He's only wanted for questioning and there isn't really a bounty on his head but I had a friend involved in that incident."

Dwight sees a nuyen transfer flashing icon appear in his AR with a query to accept.

PM

After a few minutes of waiting, Deathstrider notices something odd.  He can just make out what looks like a leg in a moderately expensive pant leg behind a nearby car.  Whoever the leg belongs to, they appear to be lying on the ground.

Dwight stands and steps clear for the officers to make the official apprehension. He declines the transfer and says, "Donate that to a charity in your friend's name then or give it to the family of your friend. They need it more than I do. If there is any sort of reward for him after the questioning, have it go to the family with regards from myself and the two of you." He then asks, "Can I get you fellas some soykaf for the road?"

They both nod and the senior officer speaks again, "We will do that.  No but thank you for your offer."

He steps forward sliding the perp along the seat then lifting him to his feet.  The other officer steps forward to handle the perp out of the place.  They both look over their shoulders and nod once in thanks.

A couple of the customers watch as the officers leave but most mind their own business.

Joan returns a few minutes later, clearly having freshened up.  "May I offer you a ride to a more secure location where we can discuss the employment?"

Dwight tips his hat to the KE officers, "Have a good night, fellas. Hope this fella knows what you need to close that case or at least give you a good lead."

When Joan returns, Dwight picks up his duffel and says, "I have my Growler outside. I'd be happy to follow you."

Dwight steps toward the diner exit and holds the door for the woman as they leave.

Re: And so it begins....

DS sighs softly as he looks over to the elevator then back to the man. He dismounts his bike and slowly makes his way to the proned man. He shoots his sister a message, "Try to shoo that spider out. Something is not right here. I need eyes else where. I see a proned body. Expensive clothing. Will shoot you a pic soon as I can." He looks around more intently as he makes his way to the proned body carefully. His hand near his side arm, ready to draw at a moments notice.
